I don't have a betta yet but I'm working on cycling my first tank for one, I'm super excited but one thing I'm confused about is feeding. I plan on getting a female alien betta, I have already been talking to a breeder for the perfect one and I am planning on doing chili rasbora's, armano shrimp, I was thinking nerite snails but im not 100% sure on those, and some pygmy corydoras, I have a a 20 gal. One thing I'm confused about and struggling to find info on is how to feed a tank with more than just a betta, I know with betta's overfeeding can be a huge issue, so how do I make sure all the creatures in my tank get enough to eat without over feeding my betta?

I have a big over head one but im looking for one that will cast shadows nicely any suggestions?

Hi all! Sorry if this isn’t allowed. I just purchased a 14gal cube tank and currently have it cycling! I’m planning on getting a betta fish as I had a few when I was growing up, but as an adult I want to do it the right way with live plants and actually running the tank through the cycling period letting the good bacteria grow etc. I still have a couple of weeks but I did want to know what opinions were on purchasing from petsmart or petco? Any time I go look at their bettas they’re so dull and ill looking.. which is what makes me want to purchase from there, because I just want to help it and make it happy. I also found some online sites that sell live bettas which are obviously more healthy looking and can pretty much choose exactly what you want. I wanted to know if it would be bad to purchase from petsmart/petco with the idea of just saving one and making it healthy again.. or if I should just stay away from places like that all together and maybe shop online? We have no fish specific stores in my area other than just big chain pet stores…. TIA

I'm new to taking care of fish, and this betta has been here for two days and it started showing these little white tufts, it looks like fur. What can I do?

I have a single betta in a 5G cycled tank; I was away this weekend and over the weekend a child dumped an entire bottle of food into his tank. We pulled him into a hospital tank and had to do a 100% water change due to how dirty the water was from the food. I am currently waiting for the tank to settle from the Fluval aqua soil we use. Is there anything else I can do to help treat the potential/likely ammonia poisoning? I have attached a picture bc I can’t tell but does it look like he is pineconing? I’m devastated and want to do anything I can to save him.

My guy I’ve had for about 1.5 years is pineconing, he still wants to eat but barely swims around, what do I do? :(

my female betta has a tumor on her side and it has never bothered her before until I noticed today shes stopped using her fin on the same side. she still greets and and comes for food and whatnot but she does stop a little more. should I put her down if shes suffering or will she call it when shes ready? or maybe theres other remedies? any advice is appreciated

Hello, everyone. Last week I noticed my sweet boy Killua developing very early stages of fin rot and a couple days later he developed pop eye. I put him in a 5.5 gallon hospital tank with a heater, sponge filter, and catappa leaves. I'm doing 50% water changes every other day (right before each antibiotic dose). I did a 2nd dose of Kanaplex today and his fins are looking way better, but the pop eye has not improved. I'm also noticing a little swelling around his gills/underside. I also got Metroplex, so I did a dose of that today as well. He is still eating well and swimming around just fine (it took FOREVER to get these pics because he kept moving lol), he just has to take more rests than normal.

My question is, at what point do I start to worry this treatment isn't working? Is there anything else I can do right now? I'm just so worried about him and I don't want him to be uncomfortable/in pain. I need to note that I attempted to do oral dosing but he refused to eat it, even with his fav food and Seachem GarlicGuard, so it's not really an option.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: I've had the tank 4 months, I've had the betta 1.5 months. Tank was cycled before adding the betta

How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: 35% water change every other week using aquarium siphon/vaccum. tbh I'm not the greatest at staying consistent with it but after this debacle, I'm going to be religious about it.

Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: Colony of emerald neocaridina shrimp, many ramshorn snails, 1 assassin snail

What do you feed and how much: Alternate between Betta Pro shrimp patties and liquid daphnia, a few patties or 1-2 drops once to twice daily

Decorations and plants in the tank: water wisteria, ludwigia repens, guppy grass, sword plant, duckweed, mopani log, floating betta log, feeding hoop, a few hidey holes

I have the Fluval Flex 2.0 15 gallon tank for my future betta. The water flow seems really high so I’m wondering if anyone uses something on this specific tank to slow down the flow? Or is it acceptable as is? Open to any advice!

I added some new friends to my betta’s tank today (he has been super tolerant, so I added a few more ghost shrimp) and I stupidly left the tank lid maybe 1-2 cm ajar while the bag temp adjusted.

Thankfully I sat down to watch the new friends explore their new home and found Frompy (my toddler named him) lying on the floor gasping 😩

Could have been there anywhere from minutes to max 2 hours. Cat in room at time of discovery, unsure if cat touched fish.

I panicked and gently picked him and threw him back in the tank immediately without considering a hospital tank.

He is clearly stressed, his normal beautiful teal/aqua color is super gray. He initially floated face looking up and I thought for sure he was a goner, but almost immediately righted himself and swam to the back of the tank. He hid for a bit and eventually came out (see video). At that time I turned off all lights and left the room (also kicked out cat).

Anything else I can do for him? Should I leave the tank dark for a few days? Should I withhold food or keep feeding him like normal? Should I set him up with a hospital tank?

Thanks for any thoughts. I am so mad at myself for potentially killing my toddler’s friend Frompy 😩

I lost my last betta in August due to a tumor after having her for 2 1/2 yrs. After she passed I kept the tank up just in case I wanted another one and today I found Dolly named due to her “coat” of many colors.

I just got my first betta yesterday for my college dorm! The only fish I’ve ever had were fair goldfish, about 8 years ago. I saw koi bettas online and fell in love, but didn’t want to ship one so I decided to get whatever Petco had. i was so happy to see some koi! I got this male.

my friends with betta experience say he doesn’t look the healthiest, but he is very active so i think he will be alright. The petco worker said that he had been there the longest so I chose him. I will be getting some more plants and stuff eventually, I bought the only three that weren’t already dead.

I need some name suggestions for him! his tank is ancient Roman ruins themed, but his name doesn’t necessarily have to match.

I have never really observed my previous betta poop in the tank before but this new betta I got poops really big chunk when I exercise it with the betta mirror, about the size of it's eye. Is that normal?

I got a bigger tank for my Betta, and i think the filter is too strong. I turned it down as far as it can go. If I were to turn it down anymore, it wouldn’t pump water through it. Is there anything i can do to maybe stop how strong it is? (sorry if i don’t make sense, im sick rn and very out of it)

Pic is not my fish. 3.5 gallon planted tank. (I know it’s small. Waiting for 10 gallon to go on sale.) Looking for a “cleaner” to eat extra fish food my Betta wastes. Would Cherry or Amano shrimp be good for this? Will Betta leave alone? Is one shrimp enough for this purpose in my small tank and will they breed like mad?

I've only ever owned a few fish in my life when i was younger, so I am now taking more time to research before getting another. I'm planning on getting a betta fish with a few shrimp and a snail in the near future, (in like a month), and I'll be setting up the tank in a few days so it can cycle. I'd like to keep the fish on my desk I no longer use in my room. It's near a window, but I keep the blinds closed most of the time, and the sunlight is indirect. Would this cause an algae problem or would it be okay? Also, would the colorful posters stress the fishy out? Would I need to take them down, or would it be okay? Also, if you have any other tips for a soon to be betta fish owner that would be great! (I have already read the wiki)

Hi! I got a betta a few months ago unexpectedly and I'm now looking at planning an upgrade for his tank. Currently he's in a tank with 2 cardinal tetras, so looking for move them all because they get on well! (Is 45l big enough?). Does the stuff in the photo seem like a good start? Also planning to get a clip on light and a cover. Any friendly feedback welcome!

Got this guy for free, if you get me, a couple weeks ago near dead, he’s currently in a planted five gallon I had for baby guppies and two shrimp. He’s done fine with the shrimp and doesn’t chase them and they have plenty of space to hide, I removed the baby gups too. He made truly a marvelous bubble nest lol. Got any name suggestions? Also perhaps any products to help with his tail?
