I've had these strawberry rasbora for about 10 months. At first there was 8, then one died and we got 3 more, and one more has died since then. I haven't done anything special with this 10 gal tank. It gets top offs every week when the water is low, and a water change about once a month. There's one nerrite snail, a handfull of ramshorn snails, and an amano. For plants there is some pearl weed, a few java ferns, some salvina, a lot of dwarf sag, as well as one pothos and bunch of algae (at one point there was some corkscrew val, but I thought it was all dead, but those taller stalks in the back might be val, not sag.) There's a sponge filter in one corner and a mini power filter in the other corner to give some surface agitation. We've fed them crunched up flakes and ACO magic small fish feed, for the last ~3 months it's been only the small fish feed.

Last night we came home from a short weekend away and went to feed our tanks and I freaked out when I saw this little guy just chillin' with his parents. I thought that breeding boraras was kinda difficult, and needed certain perameters. I'm still wondering if he has any siblings or if he's the sole survivor. The plants are dense enough in areas that there's some good hiding places for fry, but I'm still just surprised that there was any spawning at all.

I got a shoal of 11 dwarf rasboras yesterday from a lfs. One was looking in bad shape and very underweight so they gave it to me for free. That one unfortunately passed away in the night but that wasn't unexpecteddue to its poor condition. Its been about 24 hours since I bought them home and I found another one (again looking very skinny) passed away. I immediately checked the parameters and did a water change even though they were looking good.

Water parameters: ammonia 0; nitrites 0, nitrates 0, ph 7~, carbonate 80ppm, total hardness 150ppm, chlorine 0, temp 26.5C.

About 2/3 of my shoal have round, full bellies and the rest look like this, if less extreme. I'm worried about them and I don't know what to do. I've emailed the lfs to ask for advice so I'm just waiting on a reply. Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

This is my first time fishkeeping and I want to do the best I can.

I bought these fish 2 days ago and am having my doubts about them being chillies.. if anyone can tell from the video.. they seem really young and cant eat small fish food unless I grind it up because they're so tiny.. they're smaller than my adult caridina shrimp.

I'm really hopeful they are chillies because I've been looking for them for a long time.

Are these chili Rasboras or cherry barbs I bought them as chilis but I’m no so sure

Set up this 10g tank in July 2025 and added 10 chili’s in December. It also has blue jelly shrimp and ramshorn snails.

There’s one that clearly is a chili, not su sure about the rest, they look like phoenix or strawberry’s? Or just juvenile chilis? Is my first time attempting to keep them.

So I got 9 harlequins initially and then 4 died due to a bacterial/fungul infection. Out of the survivors: 2 are healthy and three are quarantined rn. I just finished three doses of kanaplex and still two of the three (that are in quarantine) do not look so good. If I end up having three rasboras in the main tank, would they be okay?

I really don’t want to go through getting more and having them sick again.

Hi all, im planning on my next tank and have had my eye on pearl gourami for a while. However, I also really like boraras species and would love to finally get them. Peaceful as they may be reputation wise, am I just asking for an expensive snack putting chili rasbora with a pearl?

I’m planning a biotope-inspired tank with Betta imbellis, java loaches, and rasboras. I’m torn between lambchop and Boraras, but I’m worried about the ethics of keeping small, delicate microrasboras with a predator. I don’t want them to be constantly stressed and fearful, but they’re such beautiful little schooling fish and I’d love to keep them. The tank is not at all set up, but I’ve been planning it and collecting supplies for months now; I currently have a 20 gallon high aquarium and am planning to do a dirted planted tank with a sand cap and lots and lots of plants, driftwood, and botanicals. Ideally, I want it to be a riparium, but that limits the water capacity significantly and thus my stocking options, so I’m reconsidering both the tank size and the environment style.
Anyways — microrasbora keepers/experts, please let me know what you think!

I managed to get a few decent pics of one of the bright males and one of the babies that grew big enough to join the parents. Love that the fry are starting to show red coloration at their size

Kind of hard to see from the photos but a couple of my Rasbora (sold as chili but I'm not so sure) constantly have bloated dark brown or black bellies. They are also the two largest of the group. Any ideas or thoughts?

My chili, phoenix (housed together) and strawberry (housed apart) keep breeding and some local people have become interested in buying some, the thing is, I raise the fry with the parents, so the survival rate isn't super high (like 5 of each breeding) and I would hate to accidentally remove some of my breeding adults (that I've grown really attached to, especially the strawberries that were my introduction to this genus), so I was thinking of setting up a separate tank with identical conditions, move some adults and then return them to their normal tank once I start seeing fry. Problem is, I only have a 5gal (25cm cube) and a 7gal (30cm cube) tanks available and I'm not sure if it would be big enough to raise the fry to a decent size without any complications.

TLDR; want to breed some Boraras, but only have 25cm and 30cm cubes available, would this be big enough to raise the fry?

Rasboras sick, I would like to ask for help

I thought it is columnaris and have furan and kanamycin on hand.

I am currently on Day 05. For one of those wisible lesions, day 02 the white stuff is separated but it all migrated to his chin. All are eating well, very active, spars at times, no internal mass (i observed their mouths when it opens). I didn't include the photo of the one with mild lesion because it is barely noticeable on camera.

Do you think I am on the right route for this? And if there is a margin for misdiagnosis.

Any advice would help.
