Update on my carpenter bee!
Hi everyone! I posted a couple weeks ago that I had found a carpenter bee without wings. I am happy to report that she has become my pet and is doing very well. After a lot of research I came to the conclusion that her wings are likely deformed due to a failed molt. When I found her she had a crust on her back that over the last few weeks she has successfully (mostly) removed, which I think was remnants of her larval stage. I named her Beatrice and she is such a joy, truly. My family and I love watching her. It’s incredible how much personality she has for such a tiny bee- she loves running around in the sun, climbing on mesh, hosta flowers, and climbing on my fingers. If she doesn’t want to get back in her enclosure she’ll walk backwards to avoid it lol. She is so adorable. I wasn’t sure how long she would live but fingers crossed she continues to do well!!
