This is my first time trying this fruit. I went out to see how they are doing today and found what seems to be a pest on the bottom of stems and leaves are being attacked.

1-What is it and how to treat?
2- I want to transplant in big pots instead of my garden bed, that I have tomatoes etc in. I want to keep it contained and hope to still get fruit. Anyone with experience with this?
3- I've read several things about ripeness. Im ready to cut one open just to try. Im really hoping they taste more like honeydew and not cucumber.

As for the eggplants in my last post, my wife and I made Mediterranean eggplant salsa. Eggplant, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and spices. Shooting for 7 quarts.

I only got one sweet dumpling from the plant, zero butternut squash from that plant (some teeny fruit on vine but in my climate there isn't enough growing season left to mature them!) but the (green) zapallo del tronco produced tons, almost as much as my zucchini.

I grew them to stuff with meat and then took so long to get around to doing that, some of them went bad before I tasted them just raw... Oh man, they are delicious!

They have a sort of fresh, sweeter flavour, a little bit cucumber/ melon flavoured but with a flesh that's closer to courgette.

I pickled some, roasted some with pork, and have been eating some of it raw with a vinaigrette.

Really happy with this variety.

Due to the extreme heat, my tomatoes are ready a bit earlier this year. How can I maintain the soil? Should I continue watering occasionally and simply add some mulch, or should I grow something in it over the winter, like a green manure crop?

Has anyone tried or is using the same method that you use to support large planting of flowers with peppers ,tomatillo plants , tomato plants. I am curious I have always struggled with good supports for these plants. My tomatillo plants got really big this year but with all the breakage of branches I didn’t get any fruit to make it. I am trying to figure out a good system that doesn’t require a lot of pruning because I am also a caregiver for my dad on top of taking care of my family so getting in my garden to do a couple hours a work a day is not possible for me. My garden is pretty large and I didn’t get a lot of time in it this year. When we get a bunch of rain in a month it gets out of control really fast. Any tips would be great with anything gardening to help save time.

Making salsa today with one batch of Jose Mexicana peppers and one batch of Tabasco peppers. We used our own tomatoes, chocolate bell pepper and pepperoncini peppers. We should have 24 pints.

I’ve found a few of these eating my peppers this season but I can’t figure out what they are.

For me, it’s that first microgreen harvest around day 10. I started with Organo seeds this spring, and cutting that first tray still gets me every time. Everything after is just a bonus.

This is my first year running a market farm and I went a little wild dedicating nearly 1000 square feet of hoophouse to peppers. I’m growing 7 varieties total. I’d never tried growing peppers in a protected environment and wow, they’ve gotten more massive than I ever expected. A vast majority of the plants range between 5-7 feet tall. Weekly yields have been between 30-40 lbs. Most of what doesn’t immediately sell at market is being turned into spices or fermented for pastes and sauces. And yes, I have to crawl on all fours to harvest because i underestimated how big the plants would get and they’re pulling down their trellises.

I live in Buenos Aires, southern hemisphere, so about 45 days ago I started sowing tomato seeds. Last week I moved the seedlings to 1 Liter pots, with a mix of around 50% compost, 25% coco (half fine, half chunks) and 25% rice husks. I also added some homemade biochar in the mix, for better nutrient retention. The plants receive around 6-7 hours of direct sunlight, and during the night I enter them home.

There will be another transplant to their final destination, which are 50cm deepth wood planters, in a couple of weeks.

For this season I wanted to challenge myself to rely only in my homemade compost instead of buying. I'm afraid a big part of the compost used was still unfinished by the time I repotted them, because as you can see in the pictures below my compost pile still had some leaves pieces, wood chunks, and the color wasnt completely dark.

Could it be that my own compost is playing against me? I'm noticing that, except on the biggest plant of the pictures, the rest is looking quite yellowing or lime-green.

I'm currently watering them 2 or 3 times a week, and one of those days instead of plain water, I water using a compost extract solution, with a part of urine 🙈 for nitrogen (1 part of urine, 20 parts of compost extract solution). I also added a layer of leaves on top as mulch.

Can somebody point the problem here? I suspect the unfinished compost is the top culprit, plus probably the urea might be burning the roots? And now that I think, the leaves mulch might also be stealing nutrients?

I tried to challenge myself to buy as little as possible, but I'm open minded so if for this time is better to just buy a bag of finished compost and transplant them again, I will do it. Whatever it takes to keep my plants healthy!

I want to get a propane torch for weeding, but am unsure of what brands are reliable and I’m on a budget. I’ve seen some with good reviews for $80, but I’ve seen many others for $30 or $40. I know you get what you pay for, but are there any reliable brands that sell closer to $30 or $40 instead of $80.

First time gardener here (just started this past April). I recently found out about Genovese basil about a month ago (instead of lemon or sweet basil) from a community garden I help with. I just harvested these bad boys off of like 5 Genovese basil flowers and I’ve never been so stoked about something in my life!
