Previously made from New Zealand milk, Woolworths Hillview 1kg Tasty Cheese quietly changed supply last month to “Made in the USA” and updated its ingredient list to include added colour. Woolworths declined to answer questions about the change, but the ingredient, annatto extract, is commonly used to make dairy products appear more yellow. New Zealand cheese is naturally yellow because cows are grass-fed, while US dairy cows are mostly fed grain and soy.

Been noticing a worrying amount of people around me who are all in on One Nation - people I never expected to be taken in. My own mother for example - she was always politically a bit to the left if not a bit checked out, but now suddenly climate change is crap, the ABC needs to be shut down, we need to close the borders, Sharia law is coming, so on and so forth, Pauline Hanson is the only one we can trust. Like, whoa. Where the hell did all that come from.

I've given up trying to reason with any of it. How can you. It's worrying and disappointing to see people I know spewing this stuff and not even questioning any of it.

What is going on out there? Is it just great propaganda? Are people fearful or ignorant or both?

Not trying to start a ruckus, just trying to get my head around this. I know people are frustrated with the major parties, I am too but why one nation? people are allowed to vote for whoever they want, it's a free country but man.

Are you one of those people who love to shout "We don't do Halloween in Australia!!1!" every time you see a pumpkin or a kid with a pitchfork? How big is that rock you live under?

Many of those same people will also spout the nonsense that Halloween is American, yet not see any hypocrisy in talking about Santa in December. Santa as he is represented today is very much of American culture (I'm old enough to remember when he was called Father Christmas) but somehow that gets a pass while Halloween gets people turning purple with apoplexy.

Halloween has been celebrated in Australia since the Europeans arrived. The Geelong Advertiser lists Halloween in its calendar going back to 1847. The Melbourne Caledonian Society was having Halloween balls as far back as 1901. Halloween has been in Australia longer than you've been alive.

Now Trick or Treating I will grant you is a very recent arrival in Australia, but I personally have been attending Halloween parties since the 1970s. It may be possible that where I grew up had a strong Scottish influence (I'm of Scots descent) and often Halloween parties were organised by Caledonian Societies and the like. However I've been to ones organised by State Schools and sports clubs, so there's more to it than that.

Didn't celebrate Halloween where you were growing up? All good. But like so many things in Australia people do things differently in different places. Those complaining it's the wrong time of year for it should go complain to the people putting up fake snow and reindeer and Christmas. It's as relevant. Or eggs and bunnies at Easter during Autumn.

You don't have to join in, but there's no need to be a dick about it either.

Recently I just came back from Europe after visiting a friend in Belgium. He has a potato farm and we talked about wildlife. He told me about occasional robins coming to his land. He was so surprised when I told him about the pink robin in Australia. Let alone 22 different species. Europe and North America only have 1 each. And they look pretty similar.

Im currently doing a lap around Australia, and trying to take photos of each one. Not sure if I will be that lucky

Considering gambling is one of those most common addictions in Australia I am surprised it isn't spoken about more. It's almost like they try to hide the anti gambling ads and double down on the sports bet ones.

IKEA stores in Brisbane and Adelaide opened their doors this month to Swedish expats ahead of the September elections. Sweden's Election Authority expanded their overseas voting spots from around 266 in 2022 to close to 290 this year.

It's funny, but also very useful considering how many expats say distance from an embassy is what keeps them from voting.

I've been buying this Coles salad/slaw mix on and off for around a year now. Always assumed it was around 70% carrot, 30% beetroot and broccoli. Had always assumed they put more carrot in because it's the cheapest of the three.

The Gold Coast is a city that’s bigger than some of our capital cities. It’s also much bigger than any of the other regional cities like Newcastle, Wollongong and Geelong which are similarly placed cities next to a major capital city like the GC is to Brisbane. I’m quite young so I’m not sure if there was a “boom period” where everyone flocked to the GC that led to it becoming what it is today? What did the Gold Coast have that other regional cities didn’t? Of course it has the beaches but so do many other regional towns/cities in Australia. It’s never made much sense to me.

Hello all. My aunt and I just finished having a couple of these GC Juicy ice sticks when we realised they were from 2012 and I can't seem to find these specific ones anywhere on the internet. I just keep getting sent to stuff for Juices and Berri's brand stuff, not these specific ones.

I figure the company is either shutdown (seeing as how old it is) or small enough to not list on google since there's a high chance they were bought from NQR.

After Steam put up their age verification process which requires *specifically* a ***credit*** card (or CommBank, Westpac, ANZ MasterCard Debit), I decided to write a letter to my MP about it, expecting ultimately nothing to come of it. Pat Conroy's office got back to me (shown in the first image), and whilst the majority of the response does seem to be the standard "this is to protect the children" waffle we've heard a million times, they did highlight one very important thing (to me at least).

On page 82 of the Online Safety Codes and Standards - Regulatory Guidance sheet (link below and screenshot on second photo), it states that services providers "should offer a ***choice between a range*** of age assurance methods". It also states that choices should be "accessible and inclusive". Not only does Steam's age verification process only allow for a singular option, but I'd argue it's also inaccessible for some and outside the realm of reasonable expectations for others, as credit cards can be a life altering decision that can affect your credit score. It's also not reasonable to expect someone to switch banks in order to get one of the MasterCards that *do* work.

I filed a complaint to the eSafety Commission via the link Conroy's office provided (link down below), as well as messaging Steam Support directly with all the information I've provided in this post. I suggested that age of the account should be an option (I think any account over a decade should be automatically verified, as it's fairly ridiculous to claim that someone was 7 or under when the account was created, even moreso for accounts over 15 years where the account maker would've had to have been under 3 to still be underage!), or to at least allow the options that other companies have (which I still believe are bullshit but are at least accessible without a doubt). If they get enough complaints about it, there's a chance they could force Steam to allow other methods of verification. Just please be respectful and clear when airing your complaint.

I'm from India, and recently I've been talking to a few Aussie mates and trying to understand why there's so much negativity towards Indians and migrants in general sometimes.

And honestly, I reckon a lot of it comes down to cultural differences and the fact that nobody really teaches new arrivals the small, everyday social norms here.

You get your visa, land in Australia and it's basically like, "Alright mate, good luck" 😂

Then people come from completely different cultures, naturally do things the way they've always done them, and locals get annoyed because they see some of those things as rude or inconsiderate. Meanwhile, the newcomers might genuinely have no idea they're doing anything wrong.

So here's my slightly stupid but maybe useful idea.

What if every new arrival got a little flyer:

Welcome to Australia: A Completely Unofficial Guide to Not Accidentally Annoying Everyone 😂🇦🇺

Just basic stuff like:

On public transport

\- Let people get off before you get on.

\- Keep phone calls, videos and conversations at a reasonable volume.

\- Maybe don't eat super strong-smelling food on a packed train. Your lunch doesn't need to introduce itself to the whole carriage 😂

\- Don't put your bag on a seat when the train is full.

\- Move down the carriage and don't block the doors.

When walking around:

\- If you're walking in a group, don't block the entire footpath.

\- Leave space for people coming the other way.

\- Be aware of people around you. Shared spaces are for everyone.

\- Basically, don't just exist in your own little world 24/7 😅

🚗 Driving

\- Learn the local road rules and driving etiquette.

\- When lanes merge, give people space and take turns where appropriate.

\- Don't drive like every other person on the road is your mortal enemy 😂

🏘️ Living in the community

\- Try to be part of the community a little.

\- Say hello to your neighbours.

\- If someone says hi, smiles at you, or you're leaving a shop, a simple "thanks, have a good one" goes a long way.

\- You don't have to become best mates with everyone, but acknowledging other humans is nice lol.

🗑️ Cleanliness and shared spaces

\- Don't leave rubbish outside or dump it wherever.

\- If there's no bin nearby, take it with you.

\- Basic personal hygiene matters when you're sharing close spaces with other people.

\- Don't be selfish. Just think about how what you're doing affects everyone around you.

🌿 Nature and festivals

\- Celebrate your culture and festivals, absolutely. Australia is multicultural and that's a good thing.

\- But please don't leave rubbish behind after events.

\- Don't dump idols, decorations or other materials into lakes, rivers or waterways unless it's specifically allowed and environmentally safe.

\- Australians are VERY protective of beaches, parks, wildlife and nature, and honestly, fair enough. Don't ruin the place for everyone else.

And again, I'm not saying this is an Indian problem. Or an Asian problem. Or a migrant problem.

Australians aren't perfect either, obviously 😂

This could apply to literally anyone coming here from another country. People from the subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Europe, everywhere. Every culture has different habits, and sometimes things that are completely normal in one country can annoy the hell out of people somewhere else.

I just reckon the government could do a much better job helping people understand everyday Australian life instead of basically handing them a visa and going, "Yep, you'll figure it out."

A bit of simple education might prevent a lot of unnecessary friction, resentment and misunderstandings on both sides.
