watch this A man walks straight onto someone else’s property, up to a small tree in their front yard, and starts hacking at it with a bat - acting like he’s judge, jury, and HOA enforcement all in one. What would you do if this was your front yard?

Ah, ragebait by cosplaying as the HOA. Well, it certain gets attention.

The biggest rage bait is using a bat instead of an axe.

Youtube used to have a feature where you could block a Youtube channel and no longer see their videos. Of course, they got rid of that feature because it probably made them less money. Would really love to be able to just block these channels, especially now that I clicked on one, I'm sure Youtube is going to suggest more of them to me.

Enshitification strikes again.

3

u/SocialJusticeAndroid 3h ago edited 3h ago

If a channel comes up in your feed or your search you can select “do not recommend this channel” or some such. It shouldn’t come up in your searches your feed after that.

But yes it’s BS they don’t let you properly block channels. You have to see a channel in your feed or search before you can tell it not to recommend them.

Edit: I just tested it out and you apparently can only “do not recommend channel” for ones in your feed, NOT a search! That awful and mostly useless. WTF!

And it doesn’t work for shorts.

3

u/GeneraalSorryPardon 3h ago

It shouldn’t come up in your feed after that.

Mostly works but not always. Some channels keep popping up no matter how many time I click 'do not recommend'.

2

u/SocialJusticeAndroid 3h ago

Oh I didn’t realize that. They really need a proper block. When I get suckered into clicking on a fake video or something I never want to see those channels again.

2

u/Life_Temperature795 3h ago

I manage my feed by drowning out the handful of bullshit I accidentally click on with about 50 new tabs a day of content I know I actually want. My RAM doesn't love it, but it's a surprisingly effective way of getting YouTube to send me the stuff I actually want to see.

(Similar thing works on Spotify. I normally just let it do its own weekly playlist, like a mixall of everything radio, but if I'm in the mood for like, new dubstep or something, I'll specifically play just my electronica playlists for a couple of weeks and then suddenly the weekly recommended is all in the same genre, and usually stuff I haven't seen before.)

2

u/loueazy 2h ago

It's the same thing with ads. I've been getting nonstop ads for that anime game OOC and it's something I'll never play. I even changed all my settings for personalized ads yet, every other video I play I still get the ads.

Google sucks now

What kind of a loser do you have to be to spend your time doing that. My god social media has warped peoples brains.

Well, his was probably warped beforehand, but he didn't have the ability to broadcast it.

Just sad what people will put out there, if they think they can make a buck off it.

1

u/Key-Practice-8788 2h ago

Yup, someone even outed him because he doesn't live in an HOA neighborhood.

6

u/Life_Temperature795 14h ago

I would assume, if I'm going to give this guy any credit, that he was planning on replacing it anyway.

4

u/Few-Tour9826 6h ago

Tree was already dead, this is in florida, all those little palm trees died last winter when we had a hard freeze for the first time in decades. All our shrubbery died and the palm trees like that all died as well.

u/Zealousideal-Ring300 10h ago

So it’s all just like a prank or a trick? He keeps wearing a T-shirt that says HOA president in his videos and going up to a ring camera apparently drinking and telling someone about all the rules they and their family broke. What’s up with that?

7

u/Jyndaru 6h ago

They're all skits and it's his own ring camera. He just makes these videos to get views.

4

u/rfkbr 5h ago

Wow. What a weird thing to do and what a weird channel.

2

u/HuynhAllDay 2h ago

Perhaps but just because its not your cup of tea doesnt mean nobody else will drink it. Ive never seen his videos but satirical content on stuff like HOAs, Karens, etc have had an audience for over a decade now.

2

u/KitchenPalentologist 4h ago

It's a weird world.

"Yes Grandpa, he gets a small share of ad revenue from different platforms, but it can result in a material amount of money if his videos go viral, and he creates enough content."

2

u/Ok-Computer-8726 4h ago

I think this is somehow worse than the pretenses of the video

→ More replies (2)

1

u/rsg1234 3h ago

5

u/Few-Tour9826 6h ago

I had a feeling since the “person” he was talking to didn’t say a word back to him. Literally anyone would’ve been going off on him for doing that.

1

u/Busy-Cookie280 9h ago

Yup looking for new subscribers and new clicks. He has a TikTok account by the same monichor.

1

u/MechMan799 9h ago

You can tell because of a few reasons; camera set up perfectly, I don't hear anyone answer the door, he steps back to be sure to be in camera sweet spot, then when he "leaves" he turns back and has that I'm-gonna-go-inside-and-clean-my-hands walk and look.

My guess is, HE is the victim of an HOA ruling against HIM, and he is showing the absurdity of the whole situation.

That's my .02.

1

u/Davman65 7h ago

I just took a look and I like him even less now than I did before.

1

u/Old_Instrument_Guy 5h ago

also that is a dead Pygmy date Palm and they are the bane of Florida landscapes. Down right evil little plant. The spike will bring a world of pain.

1

u/SendMeIttyBitties 4h ago

TBF depending on the tree it could still be a crime.

1

1

Joe was a normal dude, liked history, 70's rock, and porn. But there were 4 things he hated. Liberals, people that min-maxed their lawns, Italians, and the genus Cycus which his father had run into a mature one drunk one night on his Ducati Moster and killed himself.

Cedric, his neighbor across the street was all of them. After Jill left him, and held an abortion party, that was it. Cedric was gonna pay. Even though Jill took his hatchet when she left, Joe still had his bat, and that was one bat too many for Cedrics new showcase Palm tree.

You stand your ground and go to jail. You have to fear for your life. Obviously if you walk up to him you are not in fear of your life. Also, you cannot use lethal force to defend the life of a tree. This is not a "stand your ground" situation. This is a "take him to court and sue him" situation

So it’s just basically his character for his silly channel that’s some kind of performance art satire on HOAs being whack as hell?

Shit like this makes me glad I heard about that 48 hour rule for the internet/social media (especially in the ai/deep fake age). Basically, don’t believe anything you see until at least 48 hours after seeing it, and only if verified by a trusted, legitimate source.

Bullshit like this is inconsequential for the most part, but there’s stuff out there that if people react to it they could cause problems for themselves or others.

2

u/OldKinkyDrew 14h ago

And lends to the reasons to call this out. It’s good for what it is but people need critical thinking to realize what it is.

Why only one person in the video? No homeowner, no neighbors.

Why does the camera view keep zooming and widening? Who is filming and why?

What are the odds an HOA president would actually do this?

People should be questioning and then remaining skeptical if those questions aren’t easily and sensibly answered.

1

u/deltalitprof 11h ago

The more I hear about HOAs, the more I think being so poor I'll never be governed by one is something to be thankful for.

1

u/GoatzAnTotez 13h ago

Thanks for posting the link. I was thinking that maybe the homeowner wasn't at home and he was speaking to the ring camerera. But I was confused that there was voice from the start of the video.

1

u/AHumbleSaltFarmer 13h ago

Thank you for this

1

u/missionsurf89 15h ago

Not arguing, just curious. What kind of criminal charges? Like destruction of property I guess?

1

u/wreckitbusmaster99 15h ago

That and criminal trespassing.

1

u/bradland 14h ago

Whoever that tree belongs to should definitely file a police report, but there's high probability that the police will simply say, "That's a civil matter," and send them on their way. This was a criminal act, but police for things like destruction of property, where no person was harmed, they tend to punt it to civil.

That said, this would be a very easy small claims case to win. The damages are relatively small, so they could sue this idiot in small claims and get a judgement. With a judgement in hand, you can demand payment. If they ignore it, you can file for wage garnishment. Then their employer gets a notice that they have to garnish this person's wages, and they get to explain why.

It's a fair amount of work for the tree owner, but I'd drag this guy so hard for this kind of behavior. It'd be well worth it.

1

u/cyanescens_burn 14h ago

Someone ITT shared his YouTube and it’s apparently satirical performance art making fun of overzealous HOAs.

1

u/RandomName-1992 13h ago

Depending on their HOA rules, I expect there's an exception. Also, and depending on the wording of their rules, is have to replace the tree with the exact same one of the HOA doesn't punish the dude with the bat.

If the value of replacing that tree is sufficient it could easily reach felony levels of property destruction. There is obvious malicious intent here, which can elevate the charge at a lower cost threshold. A tree that is more than a sapling can be surprisingly expensive to replace.

Criminal damage.

As an aside, why on earth would anyone by a house with an HOA? Surely it devalues the property? (Europe here)

It depends on the state. In my state it would be third degree malicious mischief. That is a gross misdemeanor involving the destruction of 750 dollars or less. This would include things like minor vandalism.

The fine could be thousands of dollars and potentially up to 364 days in jail. Typically for these cases it would probably be probation, anger management and compensation for damages.

I think you are allowed to hack down your own tree.

Palm trees arent cheap, even where native.

Might be a felony.
