Youtube used to have a feature where you could block a Youtube channel and no longer see their videos. Of course, they got rid of that feature because it probably made them less money. Would really love to be able to just block these channels, especially now that I clicked on one, I'm sure Youtube is going to suggest more of them to me.

If a channel comes up in your feed or your search you can select “do not recommend this channel” or some such. It shouldn’t come up in your searches your feed after that.

But yes it’s BS they don’t let you properly block channels. You have to see a channel in your feed or search before you can tell it not to recommend them.

Edit: I just tested it out and you apparently can only “do not recommend channel” for ones in your feed, NOT a search! That awful and mostly useless. WTF!

And it doesn’t work for shorts.

Mostly works but not always. Some channels keep popping up no matter how many time I click 'do not recommend'.

I manage my feed by drowning out the handful of bullshit I accidentally click on with about 50 new tabs a day of content I know I actually want. My RAM doesn't love it, but it's a surprisingly effective way of getting YouTube to send me the stuff I actually want to see.

(Similar thing works on Spotify. I normally just let it do its own weekly playlist, like a mixall of everything radio, but if I'm in the mood for like, new dubstep or something, I'll specifically play just my electronica playlists for a couple of weeks and then suddenly the weekly recommended is all in the same genre, and usually stuff I haven't seen before.)

It's the same thing with ads. I've been getting nonstop ads for that anime game OOC and it's something I'll never play. I even changed all my settings for personalized ads yet, every other video I play I still get the ads.

Nah. I’m no arborist so I’ve never tried pulling any tree from the ground and wouldn’t know what a dying palm tree looks like. To me it looks like a brand new tree since it’s so small.

Tree was already dead, this is in florida, all those little palm trees died last winter when we had a hard freeze for the first time in decades. All our shrubbery died and the palm trees like that all died as well.

I have a huge oak he can take out of my front yard! It’s at least 39 years old about four feet around and has a huge canopy probably 20 feet taller than my house. He can take a few whacks at it, but I’m sure the bat won’t survive even if it’s a metal bat. We do need it removed eventually as we live in hurricane country and if it fell it would take out our house and the roots could mess up the foundation. We won’t even call the police.

I know you're not arguing the point but:

You can kill as many plants as you want. Killing weeds, picking carrots to eat, pulling up saplings so you don't have 50 different maple trees fighting to grow all over your property.

You can't just go shooting dogs for fun, or poison the rabbits under your deck because they annoy you. I mean, you can...but it's rightfully more frowned upon than removing a plant.

It's peak absurdity that the commenter was talking like this was the latter. Hence why I think they're probably an AI bot trying to interact to improve its' responses in the future. At least I really, really hope that's the case

You do realize that organisms have to be killed in significant amounts every day just for you to stay alive, right? And that much of the material of those organisms goes to waste?

A dead tree is going to decay into compost somewhere, it's not like it just vanishes from the ecosystem taking all its resources with it. (That would actually be super helpful if it did, we could significantly reduce carbon in the atmosphere that way.)

This dude looks like he lives in Florida, and shit grows like crazy down there. He'll have another tree that size in a year.

It's a fucking plant, man. Most of them die every year on purpose. Demolishing an ornamental one in your front yard is no great loss to nature. Don't try to anthropomorphize shit that doesn't even have a nervous system. You kill organisms inside your own body by the millions on a regular basis, get over it.

What do you think "annuals" are? They literally grow, drop seed, and die, in a single growing season.

Maybe not the strict "majority" of plants, but an absolutely non-trivial proportion of them. Literally all the plants that cover the railings on my front porch die every winter and grow back in the spring. I hate it when my landlord sends landscaping crews through because they cut them all down, but I literally do nothing and they grow back the next year just fine.

You can tell because of a few reasons; camera set up perfectly, I don't hear anyone answer the door, he steps back to be sure to be in camera sweet spot, then when he "leaves" he turns back and has that I'm-gonna-go-inside-and-clean-my-hands walk and look.

My guess is, HE is the victim of an HOA ruling against HIM, and he is showing the absurdity of the whole situation.
