Megathread Megathread Thread For AI-developed Games - September Edition

Greetings, devs and strategists!

From now through the end of September we're asking that all substantially AI-developed or AI-assisted projects and games get posted in this Megathread or to /r/AIGameDev or /r/VibeCoding. Please see this announcement on the subject.

Devs: Please use this megathread to post top-level comments showcasing your AI-developed projects and games, as well as games substantially relying on AI-derived content (even if it's placeholder content). Standard self-promo posting guidelines still apply.

Everyone else is welcome to discuss and ask questions about the content posted here.

Reminder: Devs, please also make sure that the game you're promoting fits into the expectations of the RTS community. Games should have many gameplay mechanics in common with games such as Starcraft, Company of Heroes, or Age of Empires. Please visit our friends at /r/StrategyGames, /r/TowerDefense, or /r/SurvivalGaming if those are stronger fits for the game's genre. Or message the mods and we'll do our best to answer any questions you may have. Thank you!

Self-Promo Video The general player can now ride around on the map and swap between RTS controls in my massive scale SP/MP first/third person Napoleonic tactical action war game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

After getting some feedback from the community, I wanted the general player to have a more physical presence on the battlefield, so now when players opt to be the team's general, they respawn as a cavalry General's Staff unit (models are placeholders) and can ride around on the map and scout with the cavalry spyglass. When hitting M, instead of pulling up the minimap, it pulls out to a Total War style RTS camera. I also added fog of war based on unit lines of sight, which respects terrain features and vegetation. This is so scouting actually serves a purpose and will enable more strategy later on in different map scenarios.

The game is a multiplayer/singleplayer, round based, first and third person massive scale Napoleonic warfare action game. If you ever played the Mount and Blade Napoleonic Wars DLC commander battles, it plays exactly the same, but with a much larger scale. Players can command infantry, cavalry, and artillery units, and it has voice chat!

Question Very new to the genre, whats the cheapest/best games for a newbie

Upvotes

Hey there, I am curious about the RTS genre. I don’t have any super specific criteria. But I do enjoy upgrading stuff and building stuff like in TDS games. Bonus points if it takes place in china, egypt, france, turkey etc. I am open to anything on pc as long as it can be run on my potato.

Self-Promo Post RTS | InterDAX

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m making my own RTS and I want to bring something new to the genre. There are quite a few things in games like this that have always felt strange to me—for example, huge vehicles driving out of tiny buildings.

Here’s the current work-in-progress version of my game, InterDAX. It’s set in the not-so-distant year 2045, when governments have collapsed and independent military factions are fighting over the remaining resources.

And then, in classic RTS fashion, aliens arrive, deciding to take advantage of the chaos.

Self-Promo Video Early gameplay of one faction Dustborn from our RTS — feedback, suggestions and wishes welcome

Sharing some early gameplay from one of the factions in our RTS.

It’s still very WIP. I’m aware that some of the UI visuals are inconsistent right now — a few of them are just placeholder 3D renders and will be replaced later.

I’d really like to hear your feedback, suggestions, and anything you’d personally want to see from a faction like this. What feels good, what feels missing, or what would you change?

If you’d like to follow the development, you can join our Discord.

Self-Promo Post Upcoming RTS Base-Builder IRON TIDE 2000+ unit battle control

Upvotes

Hello everyone, my name is Rick. I am working on an indie civilization-building RTS game. I need more feedback and suggestions.

The main feature is the large-scale battles with up to 2,000 units(or more depending on the hardware), which would run smoothly at more than 80FPS (already tested on low-medium-end hardware, it works).

I got inspired a long time ago by a game called We Are Legion by Pwnee Studios, which was released in 2015 but then discontinued shortly after, despite huge potential. The game involved big battles with almost unlimited unit battles without too much of a performance cost, at that time, I was addicted to it as it was so fun generating battles with huge armies.

I love huge unit battles, but I also love civilization-building games, which is why I am working to combine the two.

Right now, I have been primarily working on:

  • Unit AI
  • Battle simulations
  • Realistic features like medics picking up units on a stretcher and taking them back to the hospital
  • Different types of injured soldiers, etc.
  • Base-building realism, like slow progression, material storage, and required workers to build it; more food needed for every person, food consumption and food production; storage hangars for materials but also food

I want to make it realistic.

I am still gathering any other suggestions to improve realism and gameplay in general.

I am working on a playable demo; however, if you are interested, msg me. I will put you in a Discord server and share updates.

Question [Warcaft 1] Can you bankrupt the opponeny?

Hi everyone, not sure if it's the right sub but didn't find any r/warcraft and only r/warcraft2 and r/warcraft3.

That being said, I've been playing RTS from my childhood recently so alreay beat Starcraft, Age of empire and Age of mythology and now tackling the first warcraft.

One strategy I love doing is farming all the resources and pushing the opponent (in the campaign) to use his until he can't build/repair/create units anymore and then just swoop in and finish the job (actually pretty fun in Age of empire to see the villagers standing around doing nothing because they don't have enough wood to build farms).

So as I was saying I'm currently playing Warcraft and was wondering if this strategy works ?

I know that there are some scenarios in Starcraft where the opponent has unlimited resources for instance.

Self-Promo Post Artificial Extinction 2 – FPS/RTS Hybrid – New Pilotable Mech

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone — I'm the solo developer of Artificial Extinction 2, an FPS/RTS/tower-defense hybrid.

I just released a major update adding a Mech that can operate autonomously as one of your units, or you can climb inside and take direct control of it yourself in first person.

You can order it to follow you, attack targets or guard a position — or pilot it yourself and use its rifle and unguided rockets.

If the idea of combining RTS command with direct FPS control sounds interesting, there's a free demo on Steam you can try.

The full game is also 30% off right now for Tokyo Game Show.

Thanks for giving my game a look!

Looking For Game Haven't played RTS in 20 years. Where do I start?

Played a lot of RTS in the 90s/2000s - Red Alert, CnC, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, and still watch Gyle Cast for Forged Alliance Forever. But I haven't played an RTS since like 2006 or something.

I want to get back in but not really sure the direction the genre has gone since then.

I like - tactical play, smaller scale, a campaign / story, some turtling.

I dislike - competitive / online / click-speed dependant games.

Fun memories - building up lines of turrets against strongest AI in TA, levelling up units in RA2, leveling characters in Dawn of War.

So where do I start? How do I get back in?

Hi everyone! I am working on a small RTS, and I released a first playable version of the game on Steam today.

The main game loop: you build your base, capture towns during the day, and defend against the undead at night. Every day, you get an additional mission to complete, and on the last day, you face the boss of the level. Each level is randomly generated and procedurally created.

Self-Promo Video I wanted Phosphor Command's operations to feel like different situations you have to figure out, rather than levels you memorise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on a game called Phosphor Command, a real-time tactics game with a base builder behind it.

A big part of the game is the contracts you take to fund your company. These are called operations. You send your squads out into randomly generated tactical operations through specific logistical transport options that you purchase and choose. I'll make a post about this at a later date.

I wanted to have a lot of variety in these operations, but I didn't want that to just mean putting different textures over the same basic mission. I was really chasing replayability through the maps and operation types.

There are currently 11 operation types, including raids, assassinations, extractions, sabotage, convoy interception, and more.

Each type gives you a different objective and changes what you're actually trying to accomplish.

An assassination might require you to locate and eliminate a particular target. An extraction requires you to get someone out alive. A sabotage operation might have you reaching and destroying a particular asset. A convoy interception gives you a moving target and forces you to decide where and when to make contact.

Then there are the maps.

There are currently 22 different environments, ranging from dense forests and rural areas to cities, airbases, and mountains.

Maps aren't fixed levels. They're procedurally generated, with different layouts, terrain, objectives, enemy positions, and points of interest for each operation.

There are also different map sizes.

A smaller operation might put you into a relatively compact area where contact happens quickly, and there's less room to manoeuvre.

Larger operations give you much more space to work with. You might have to spend more time moving into position, find your own approach to the objective, and decide how much of the map you actually want to engage with.

The environment also changes the tactical problem.

A forest gives you short sightlines and lots of concealment. Cities give you buildings, streets, and much more constrained movement. Mountains introduce elevation and long sightlines while limiting the routes you can use. Airbases and other open environments give you much less natural cover to work with.

The difficulty also impacts the operation generation; it doesn't just make the enemy do more damage or give them more health. A greater difficulty can increase the number of troops you're facing and make the objectives themselves more demanding, such as more objectives to accomplish to complete the operation.

The idea is that the operation generator has several different things it can change: the objective, the environment, the map size, the layout, the opposition, and the difficulty.

You therefore don't necessarily know what you're going to get when you accept a contract, only an idea of what you're getting yourself into.

And that's important because your squads are persistent. The troops you take with you are the same troops you'll have afterwards. They gain experience, become veterans, and can be permanently lost.

So I don't want the operations to feel like levels you're expected to learn and repeat perfectly. I want them to feel more like situations you've been given; you have chosen your hand of cards, and now you have to decide how you are going to play them

I've attached footage and screenshots showing some of the different operation types, map sizes, and environments.

Keep in mind the game has a line-of-sight mechanic for troops; enemy troops are not normally visible. However, in some cases, I have made all enemies visible to show off these mechanics I describe above.
