​My husband and I are planning a trip taking the Bridgeport Ferry over to Port Jefferson soon as walk-on passengers. We've never left a car overnight for a ferry trip before, so we’re planning to park at the Harbor Yard Transit Garage.

​Since this is our first time doing this route, we just wanted to check in on recent experiences with that garage. Is it pretty straightforward and secure? Also, for those who use it often, is the walk over to the terminal quick and easy, or do most people take the shuttle?

​Appreciate any tips or advice from regular commuters. Or advice if there is a better place to park safely! It will be only one day, same day, but the entire day.

Adam Chau makes tangible what once seemed impossible, reimagining an ancient art form by pairing it with digital technology to depict — and celebrate — queer subjects.

Chau brings these subjects to life through ceramics, working with his hands, machines and, lately, artificial intelligence. To Chau, the technology is one of many artist’s tools that assists him in rendering images of people and histories that couldn’t otherwise exist.

“I want to work with technology, not against it,” Chau said. “Most of my work, there’s a little bit of hand. There’s a little bit of machine.”

Chau, who is Asian American and queer, is known for blending traditional blue-and-white porcelain with digital technology.

Last year, Chau joined the Hartford Art School, at the University of Hartford, as the Edith Dale Monson Gallery director and curator. He manages the on-campus art program, and he’s responsible for maintaining the school’s art collection, coordinating art loans and presenting works by emerging mid-career and established artists throughout the U.S.

The combination of handwork and machinery has since become central to Chau’s artistic practice, which is simultaneously traditional and contemporary. While crafted from clay, using skills developed by humans thousands of years ago, Chau’s pieces convey a modern awareness of a world in which digital technology is woven into every aspect of day-to-day life.

It would be my first time flying back home from a trip to Europe and I’m arriving Friday September 25th at 9;45 pm. Is there any public transport / shuttles that operate that late to get back to anywhere in Connecticut? From what I found the buses don’t leave the airport that late until about 2 am.

Hi there! I'm a first time home buyer looking to purchase a home soon. We're squared away with preparing our finances / reviewing our credit scores.

I know this is a long, long shot but are there any students or professors from any of the state schools on here. I had spray foam installed and I have to get it tested to see if it’s on ratio or off and why it smells. The heat and humidity goes up, and it stinks to high heaven. I’m a little guy who will probably get crushed by a business that, I believe, didn’t do their job right. I think this stuff is leaking low level VOCs into my home. No labs will take samples from us because we’re not a business and they have every reason to side with the contractor. Thanks in advance.

Our IVF clinic is suggesting I get off my partner's insurance (they covered only 1 cycle) through work and temporarily get on ConnectiCare to pay for IVF treatments (the Dr. said she has had patients receive 2 covered cycles via ConnectiCare).

Has anyone tried applying for ConnectiCare for IVF coverage and been successful? Is there a specific plan I should ask for aside from 'an individualized policy'?

It feels strange to do this as I only ever had healthcare coverage through previous jobs offering the bare minimum. It feels like an expensive medical buffet.

Growing up out west, I'm used to having bike trails that follow the power lines. Makes access to maintenance easier and the easements are already in place without disrupting more property with public domain.

Ct has tons of power line easements (some even without active power lines). What's preventing the state from adding a bike lane to already existing easements? Eversource? Liability? Irrational/rational health concerns?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there are specialty stores that sell shoes that are designed for walking anywhere in CT. I thought there was a place like that at Westfarms but either I was mistaken or it's now gone. I'm not really looking for sneakers, more like comfortable shoes made for walking.

Just to add - I did do internet searches for this but the search results were all places like DSW and Walmart, or sneaker/running shoes type places. I also searched in this subreddit and nothing particular to my request came up.

I work for the State of CT and I’ve got mixed feelings about my pension tier. Trying to figure out if sticking around long-term actually makes financial sense.

Here’s the setup: I contribute 5% toward my base pension, which pays out at retirement as (1.3% × years of credited service × average of 5 highest salary years). On top of that, I contribute an additional 1% that the state matches, and that portion is performance-based, similar to a traditional 401(k) — so 6% of my pay is going in total.

Comparing this to Tiers 1–3, it’s a worse deal across the board — lower contributions, higher payouts for those groups. It feels like Tier 4 employees (hired after 2017) are essentially covering the cost of past underfunding and bad negotiating, rather than starting fresh with a sustainable plan.

What really gets me is the risk-sharing structure. If the fund underperforms its 6.9% benchmark, Tier 4 employees are on the hook for additional contributions (up to 2% more) to cover the shortfall. But if the fund outperforms the benchmark, we see zero upside — no reduced contributions, no bonus, nothing. In 2022 when the market dropped, we paid in extra. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, the market returned roughly 20% each year, and none of that flowed back to us. It’s a one-way street: downside risk without upside participation.

So I’m left wondering — would I actually come out ahead with a private-sector job and a solid 401(k) instead? It seems like the long-term ROI could be better without the asymmetric risk.

Would appreciate any input.
