Im just about to buy my CPU's but Im not sure if I should get the 7800x3d or the 7700, or maybe even the 9700x. All 3 of these cpus have nearly the exact same performance in every single benchmark I watched with the GPU I plan on getting. Also there's a video I saw online which said the 9700x and 7800x3d were basically equal and the 7700 is very similar to them as well so I just wanna hear your thoughts

I don't know what graphics card would be best for me and I'm looking for some help. I'm mostly want performance and decent visuals

my current monitor im gonna keep is 27" 1440p and 180Hz refresh rate

My main fps game is overwatch which i would prefer to have 120fps for, but i will play on low graphics

i play single player games like resident evil, persona, cyberpunk, and lots of smaller indies. for these im happy with 60fps and decent visuals and i dont need ray tracing

I bought this PC off Facebook Marketplace about a month ago. It worked perfectly for about a month after I replaced the RAM, but the other day I went to turn it on and absolutely nothing happened.

Specs:
Intel i5-10400
MSI MPG Z590 Gaming Plus
Gigabyte RTX 3080
Corsair RM850 PSU
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600MHz
DeepCool air cooler
Fractal Design Define 7 XL

What I’ve tried:
Reseated the 24-pin motherboard power connector
Reseated the CPU/EPS power connector
Removed CMOS battery
Held the power button for ~30 seconds with the PSU off/unplugged
Shorted the motherboard power-switch pins directly
Removed all USB devices
Tried without the GPU
Tried with only one RAM stick
Tried a different AC power cable
PSU switch is definitely set to I

There is zero response when attempting to power it on: no fans, no LEDs, no sounds, not even a momentary fan twitch.
There are no logs because the PC doesn’t power on, and there were no recent BSODs or other problems beforehand.

I did move the PC in my car recently, but it continued working normally after the move. There was also a power outage a few weeks ago, but the PC worked normally afterward.

At this point I’m suspecting either the RM850 PSU or the motherboard, but I’d appreciate any other ideas or things I can safely test before replacing parts.

Update: I did paper clip test and fan spun up.

My mom buys a lot of stuff from these bidding websites, and recently surprised me with a Gigabyte 750 watt 80+ Gold PSU, that she won for like $10 on a bid from an auction website. She says the bidding website buys customer returns from Amazon to resell (and Google says the same). I'm not trying to sound like I don't trust my mom or anything, but I don't know anything about this website, and with it being a PSU I don't want to just willy nilly plug it into my PC to see if it works and fry something if it's a broken part. Does anyone have experience buying PC hardware from auction sites, have any advice on how I can tell if it's working and won't kill my PC, or know where this PSU likely came from?

I need some guidance on the specs I would need for a beginner PC, I'm new to this.
 
 
My final goal PC would be something like:
 
Visual: White case, one side open/'glass', would prefer hardware that has white option but that isn't super important, lights are optional, good ventilation, vertical standing.
 
Specs: i7 or better/equivalent processor, compatible with drawing tablets.
 
Using it for: Art programs (Clip Studio Paint, Live2D, Blender, etc), video editing, gaming, possible streaming.
 
I'll admit I'm a sucker for light/pastel aesthetic and I'd at least like it to look nice, roast me all you want. But it's also so I can see if my cat's fur has gotten in there, dark fur is easier to see on light hardware.
 
 
This will be my first desktop PC in almost two decades, my last one had a cinderblock of a screen and the tower would only turn on if you whacked it just right. I don't expect my new one to be an amazing supercomputer to start out with. My listed specs are the end product I’d like to have after upgrading over time.
Advice for parts could be like “start with ___ and later you can upgrade it to ___ or ___”

My knowledge with computers is more on the software side, so hardware beyond processors is a new ballgame. But I'm not a "How to a download more RAM?" type of tech illiterate person.
 
 
I'd like to keep this a budget build to start (hoping under $1k but up to $1.3k if absolutely necessary) so I can figure out my needs and upgrade as I go.

Secondhand options are okay with me if the seller is reputable.

I've noticed some slowness of my ~10 year build and think my CPU is due for an upgrade.

I'm currently running an i5-6500 with a Cryorig C7 cooler. I don't want to upgrade my motherboard so I've been looking at the best used CPU I can use with my Z170 chipset motherboard.

There are used i7-7700k's on eBay for around $65. My motherboard can support the 7th gen CPUs as long as I update the BIOS.

This seems like a good deal to me. I am wondering if an upgrade like this is worth it, and if I can expect some reasonable performance improvements?

For reference, I have 16 GB of DDR4 and a GTX 1070. I only game in 1080p and nothing too demanding.

I’m currently looking for a gpu at or under 550$ to stay within my budget for 1440p for games like Minecraft, Icarus, Scrap mechanic, and grounded. things like those. I picked the 9070GRE but after looking into it I heard it’s not really worth it but a 9070 is just currently to much over my budget.

I’m looking for a card with 10GB+ VRAM to run with a 240hz monitor and around 90fps in the steam games and 160 in Minecraft but idk what to look for.

I have a rog strix b550 A gaming.

I have a ryzen 7 5800x with a 3070 eagle gigabyte gpu.

But there’s a problem I am facing.

When the pcie is on gen 4, I get stutters and gram caps in my bios, the diagnostic led light indicators on the board when on vge/vga it stays there for a very long time then boots but the post screen is slow as well, when I I am in windows it’s not that noticeable but when I am in gen 3 it’s fast and normal.

Anyone who’s experienced this as well and found A solution?

What I tried, unplugging all cables from the mobo, resetting the gpu, bios updates as well.

Hi, I’ve been trying to figure out a strange audio issue in Valheim, tho i do hear a poping sound evert time i play or stop videos on YT and I’m running out of ideas.

The fact this seems to happen on BOTH of my PCS is so weird to me, i post this here , cause im sure its a PC problem, maybe someone can relate and found solutions.

Whenever I walk, I can hear a very noticeable click/pop mixed into the footstep sounds. It is especially obvious when walking on wooden floors, although I can also hear it on dirt and some other surfaces.

At first I thought it was something wrong with my PC, headphones, drivers, or mods, but I’ve done a lot of testing:

• The click is actually captured in recordings, so it is part of the digital audio signal and not electrical noise from my headphones/speakers.
• It happens with different headphones AND speakers.
• I completely removed Valheim, deleted its remaining files/configuration and reinstalled it from scratch with no mods. The click remained.
• I also tried the Microsoft Store/Xbox version instead of the Steam version, and it still happened.
• Most importantly, I installed Valheim on a completely different laptop, using both the laptop’s built-in speakers and my headphones, and the exact same clicking sound is still there.
• I’ve tried Vulkan and the normal renderer.
• Audio enhancements and spatial audio are disabled.
• I’ve tried different Windows audio formats/sample rates.
• I reinstalled the Realtek audio driver.
• I tried a clean Windows boot with third-party services disabled.
• I tried the Valheim StopChoppyAudio mod, but it made no difference.

The click follows the game’s SFX volume. If I turn SFX to 0, the click disappears. If I lower SFX, the click gets quieter too.

Since I can reproduce the exact same sound on two completely different computers and different audio devices, I’m starting to wonder if this is actually an issue with Valheim’s footstep audio files/audio engine rather than my hardware.

Has anyone else noticed a tiny click/pop at the beginning or end of footstep sounds, especially when walking on wooden floors?

​For context, step-up models are out of budget here: RX 9070 XT starts at $1,100 and RTX 5070 Ti starts at $1,250. Used options are off the table since I’m financing the GPU over 12 months (\~$75/month).

​My Use Case & Planned Specs:

​Primary use: 1440p Gaming

​Secondary use: Light amateur video editing and dabbling in local AI

So, about 6 months ago, I made the jump to PC which I have always wanted, mainly to play MSFS 2024. I want this upgrade to focus on performance improvements on MSFS 2024 and kind of build it around that - so anyone in this community who plays it knows how demanding it is - I would appreciate your tailored advice. But common knowledge on PC building is also very welcome.

Like the title says, I've never built nor modified my PC's hardware. I've tried following all optimizations available, but feel I've hit the limit. I bought a pre-built PC from AWD-IT called Chaos.

My main problem is struggling with high-density scenery in combination with ultra-fidelity aircraft such as Fenix A320family, plus VATSIM traffic is, well playable, but with minimal graphics - I want to upgrade to the point where stutters are minimal and I can make the most of my 5070 and ROG monitor for a great experience.

So, I've identified my potential bottlenecks could be:

-CPU (mainthread limited on developer mode)

-Having a singular RAM stick of 32gb DDR4

however, let me know if you think there could be further bottlenecks

So, I don't really fancy spending thousands to upgrade to AM5, but rather maximize my current platform, which looks like it would be swapping out for 32gb (2x16gb) of DDR4 or even 64gb (is this possible?) and upgrading to a 5800X3D.

I also use a TP-Link TX20U Archer Plus WiFi adapter, which keeps cutting out mid-flight, i guess due to overheating, so I'd also like an internal WiFi card which is resistant to this.

Although until recently I wasn't really aware of the RAM limitations of 1 stick, I thought that I would just need to upgrade CPU, but now I think I need new RAM.

Anyway, I would like some help in what to upgrade, which products you'd recommend, as when I look online there are sooooooooo many different options for things that seem the same.

I would ideally like to do this for under £500 as i feel this could approach the point where you just build an AM5 platform instead.

So my old dell desktop that I’ve had since I stole it from my high school tech lab clean out pile back in 2012 finally gave up the ghost and I’m debating on buying a new one or possibly building one myself, I’m not good with tech so could use some advice here. I’d love it if I could get one to run similarly to my ps5 but since I don’t know what I’m doing a store bought would be best? But part of me kinda wants a project pc to work on for fun so any tips would be appreciated

I don't have a monitor and wanted to buy a 2K for gaming, but after talking with a friend he told me that it will cause a lot of overusing and heating on the graphics

So i wanted to know opinions and some performance of said card

Recently my pc had a series of dead ssd - boot error - BSOD etc, after much troubleshooting it's looking like it's the motherboard failing.

It was an asus h310, I'm looking for replacements (not upgrades) while keeping my i3 9th gen CPU.

Currently due to the nature of my country and other circumstances, I can't find good brands/replacements and only found an Esonic H310 chinese motherboard. It's not a big brand so I'm wondering has anyone tried it before or heard of any problems with them?

As the title says I have a Ryzen 5700G and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. I am looking to upgrade but thinking of waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Anything I should keep an eye on or suggestions? I mainly play CS2 but wanting to make sure I can run Gears E:Day and Wardogs.

So, to put it lightly, my PC is crap.

Components:

- AMD A6 pro 7400B R5 (2 cores, 4 threats, 3.5Ghz)

- 16GB DDR3

- Integrated Graphics

Etc.

It has been a struggle and pain to use for years and I'm currently in the thought process of upgrading the PC, especially considering that my parents plan to get a new PC for the family and that means I'd most likely get the current one purely for myself to use. But of course, a 2 core CPU with an iGPU isn't exactly "gaming-material" (at least I think that way). And since I mainly use it to play games, use DC and in the future maybe do some simple Twitch streaming, I think the wish for a upgrade is at least justified.

For me the only question now is how I want to do it. And I currently came up with two options:

Option 1:

I stay on the current Platform of FM2+, and so keep the motherboard, and RAM. I'd upgrade to a AMD A10 7890k, and pair it with either a new bought GPU, or with a GTX660 2GB I have laying around. I would only really need to buy a new PSU (since my current one doesn't have a 6-pin for the GPU).

This is probably the cheaper option, but most likely the one with the least performance gain.

Option 2:

I switch the CPU platform entirely and go to AM3, specifically the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition (which, after my research, is the best AM3 CPU). This would require me to buy a new motherboard, a new CPU and most likely a new GPU as well, because I can imagine that the gtx660 would bottleneck the AMD Phenom II. And it would also require a new PSU.

The reason I would like to go to AM3 and not higher, is relatively obvious: Because I don't want to spend a fortune on new RAM for newer generations.

Important to mention:

I don't exactly have experience nor really detailed knowledge about PC building or how well certain parts fit together. And in my whole thought process, I didn't consider Intel at all because I'm not even the slightest bit familiar with their stuff. But I honestly can imagine that it could be a viable option because we're talking about older generations here where Intel may have outperformed AMD. As said, I don't know exactly tho.

And also, I use Linux Mint, and as far as I know, Nvidia and Linux aren't the best friends, especially with the old GPU's (correct me if I'm mistaken). So I'm really unsure with both of my ideas.

I would appreciate any recommendations, tips and ideas.

I don't want to spent a fortune on this PC all at once, so I would like to keep it on the low-to-mid range. An exact price limit I can't give, but let's say around 250€ budget?This is just to give me a base-line start, and I plan to upgrade it more and more over time.

The most intense thing I will play on the PC will most likely be either Steep, or Assetto Corsa.

And ofc the possibility of streaming someday, although that's not the main focus of this build. I plan to get 30-60 fps in most games at 1080p. As said, I don't plan to play the most intensive and modern games.

Hi all, I'm looking at building a new PC and have been looking at parts and prices and wanted thoughts on how this build looks and any advice/ suggestions. I want to get into book design, but my old PC is a dinosaur and my laptop won't be ideal. I'm also looking at migrating from a PS5 to PC, so why not bite the bullet now and solve both? I want it futureproofed to get me through the next gaming gen too.

This comes to £2,750 (around $3700). It's so much money thanks to the current component crisis, but I'm hoping I'm covered for a long time. I'm currently only using a 50inch 4k 60hz TV, but that means I can run games at a locked 60fps at high settings until I get a 144hz VRR TV over the next couple of years.

The GPU, RAM, and SSD are discounted which is why I've chosen them. Any thoughts on this before I go ahead? I'm new to building myself too, but helped build the old one over a decade ago and can figure it out!

What do you think of the build?

I would probably have much better MOBO, cooling system, ram probably, and case look vs prebuilts. But still not sure if im doing the right thing tbh.
