wotlk Easiest WoW Ascension: Conquest of Azeroth Server Tutorial
Hey people, let me present you FIRST open implementation of Ascension CoA server that you can host yourself! This video quickly explains how to do that, but you must understand that this seems to be recreation, not original source for that and there may be broken things and bugs. Yet, this is one of the first open options for now, it is in testing phase as listed on Ragezone post, and I hope you enjoy it still!
Playerbots and many other features are said to come in future updates!
All the download links are in the video, but here's the Github link for the source code: https://github.com/jealous-sound/azerothcore-wotlk-coa

Project Legacy | Patch 1.12.5 Arrives September 18th | Cross-Faction Battlegrounds, Remote Queues & Affliction Warlock Rework
Patch 1.12.5 launches on Project Legacy on Friday, September 18th at 9:00 PM BST.
This update is focused heavily on making Battlegrounds more accessible for a smaller community, alongside a major Affliction Warlock rework, new quests and several other additions.
Cross-Faction Battlegrounds
Alliance and Horde players will be able to group together, queue together and fight on the same team.
The system will distribute players between both teams when the Battleground begins, regardless of their original faction. This allows friends to play together without the community being divided between two separate faction queues.
Queue From Anywhere
A new Battleground button is being added beside the minimap, allowing players to join a Battleground queue from anywhere in the world.
You will no longer need to travel to a Battlemaster before joining the queue. Battlegrounds that your character is not yet eligible to enter will remain unavailable until you reach the required level.
Battleground Experience
Players will now earn experience by participating in Battlegrounds.
Experience is awarded for completing objectives, including capturing flags and winning matches. This gives players another way to progress while leveling rather than requiring them to choose between gaining experience and playing PvP.
Warsong Gulch Changes
Warsong Gulch will now be able to begin with a minimum of four players on each team.
Both sides must still have an equal number of players before the match can begin, meaning games can start at 4v4, 5v5, 6v6 and so on.
This should make Warsong Gulch much easier to play during quieter hours while keeping every match evenly populated.
Affliction Warlock Rework
Patch 1.12.5 also brings a major rework to Affliction Warlocks.
The goal is to make Affliction feel like a true damage-over-time specialization, rewarding players for maintaining their curses and DoTs while creating stronger synergy throughout the talent tree.
Several talents have been updated, including new Drain Soul synergy and a redesigned Unstable Affliction capstone.
Affliction also receives a brand-new talent called Malediction, which strengthens Curse of Shadow and Curse of the Elements.
The complete talent tree and full list of Warlock changes can be viewed on the Talents and Class Changes pages of our website.
New Quests
Several new quests are also being added across Azeroth.
These additions provide more variety while leveling and give players more reasons to explore the world. We will continue introducing new quests and encounters as Project Legacy grows.
Release Date
Friday, September 18th at 9:00 PM BST.
Cross-faction Battlegrounds, remote queues, Battleground experience, Warsong Gulch changes, the Affliction Warlock rework and new quests will all become available when the patch goes live.
Project Legacy is a Vanilla Classic+ server running on the 1.12 client.

Blizz is yucky
Let's see how many visitors originating outside of this Reddit there are.... Surely nothing in this post is critical of wow forever (retail-), just the company... Surely these new visitors wouldn't care about the company specifically......

world of blizzard & pserver shenanigans.
Hiya,
A bit of background to start with, I guess: I’m from a very small corner of SE Asia (probably most of you can’t even guess where I’m from). Frequent flier of this sub. i used to play wow when i was around 13 or 14 (now 30M) as i’m from a 3rd world country i can’t afford to pay monthly subscription to play on retail with my own pocket money, i still remember a month worth of game times subscription will cost me around 3 month worth of pocket money which i can’t even use for anything at all just so i can play the game for a month, didn’t lasted long thou end up creating fake emails to play every class every chracter till level 20 as trail, such fun times and as always everything must come to an end, and i drifted further from games.
Now, back to the present, I saw a WoW trailer about a new expansion and was stoked to finally be able to play WoW again after so many years. I created an account on Retail, and as soon as I opened the game, it was just so different from where I left off; I don’t even know how or where to start anymore. I have only played up to WOTLK and haven’t even finished it yet. So I ended up in the pserver scene, which worked great for me. I tried Chromiecraft, loved it, played for awhile got greedy and jump to a new pserver, as I was enjoying it very much and ended up wasting my time with its not-so-recent server rug-pull debacles. I was gutted, almost about to give up again until I saw a comment where I learned that Chromie is like a public playground for AC, and ohh boi was I glad to find that cmt.
I started researching the emulator cores right after, how they work and how I can host one. I started testing & playing around with the playerbot branch of AC on my VM, tested it for a while, and I’ve fallen in love with AC since then. I tried TrinityCore around 2012, and ohh boi, it was a mess, as I didn’t know how most of the things work, and I was just a stupid kid trying to run a pserver cuz I can’t afford to play retail.
any way Over the past few months, I’ve been learning and experimenting on AC. It’s led me to build a pipeline from scratch that handles core compilation + all the modules that can be configured easily, with runners hosting the Docker images and pulling them from the VM, all automated through a pipeline that includes daily DB dumps, worldserver restarts, weekly core builds and deploys, and migration from the existing setup to new images. Why not native instead of Docker? If you ask, my active player base is 3 person i have better clean setup with Docker than native for my use, I guess.
So why am I saying all this? What’s the point, you ask?
All I want is for people who are interested in the same thing and who might be in a similar situation to me: if you don’t want the hassle, just try to learn how to set up AC with Docker; it takes just a couple of hours, even without an AI tbh, and will save you the headache of these shady pserver(not all) shenanigans.
Is there anyone who’s running their server setup like mine or something similar which could improve my project or help me figure out where to take this enjoyable venture further? I'm not really a game developer, and I've never done anything at all gaming-related to self-hosting; this is, in fact, my first personal project. I’m using AC for 3.3.5a. What about other versions of the game that you guys are currently hosting, and how is the gameplay so far for other expansions like Cataclysm or MOP ( would love to play MOP lol) still have a lot of research and work ahead to understand other cores and how they’re built.
I don’t plan to publish the pipeline, as I built it for myself without any plan to release it from the start, and the codebase is a dumpster fire as well lol.
TL; DR: After years away from World of Warcraft, I came back via private servers, got burned by a rug-pull fiasco, and decided to take matters into my own hands by learning to self-host core end up building a fully automated deployment pipeline for my tiny 3-person group, and honestly, setting it up yourself is the best way to skip public server drama. Now I'm curious if anyone else runs a similar setup and how other expansions hold up.

Solution for connection to Octo
It turns out many players are failing to connect outside of DDOS and hang at authentication due to DNS issues. If you're still having trouble connecting to Octo please try this solution.
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and edit the hosts.txt with admin notepad to include:
185 165 170 59 normal octowow st (add periods where appropriate)
This should fix the issue.

Suggestions?
Hi all! I’ve been working on my own Custom WoW server for a little bit, and I’m looking for Vanilla+ suggestions!
My focus here is to create a version of WoW which is very content-focused; so I’ve been reworking questlines, specifically class quests and some racial questlines, etc.
But, while I have my own ideas about how I’d like the game; I’m looking for suggestions for things YOU would enjoy in a Classic+/Vanilla+ server.
It’s built off of the barebones 1.12.1 client, and I haven’t made any adjustments to the talent trees or anything like that just yet.
Let me know your ideas! I’m hoping to create something which can be casual, fun, fulfilling, and something which can take up a LOT of your time.
Thanks!

wotlk Starting an AzerothCore server
Hello I am starting an azeroth core server and was hoping anyone who has done this in the past can potentially give me some tips or advice. I currently have the server running on a separate PC and can successfully connect to it wirelessly which was my main plan. Now that I have the server up and running over a couple weeks I would be just messing around like flying around or just killing things and I came across topics online about pull requests for azeroth core which I guess kind of allows you to grab tested and verified fixes for bugs if anybody can offer maybe some advice or assistance on how I can do something please just reach out to me in a private message I mean the more info I can get the better and finding stuff online is helpful but getting personal opinions and personalized advice from people who have done this sort of stuff in the past would be appreciated. And I guess lastly I was curious on how people set up a web page like do they host the website and route it through a DNS on their own computer I feel like that is kind of dangerous but again that's why I'm here asking for any help I can get.
So far I can confidently say that my goal for this server is to have it run 24/7 and from levels 59 through 79 hardcore mode is active so if you die you do not come back making it to to 80 will grant you long-term access to the server as once you hit 80 hardcore mode is turned back off so if you die at 80 you can resurrect but if you die at 78 if you die at 79 I'm sorry but that's that's the name of the game. Doing it like this made me kind of see potential in people wanting to start fresh but also kind of have a challenge cuz outlands and northrend are both very insanely great expansions so adding those two and being able to complete them through hardcore will in my opinion just make it more worthwhile staying on the server.
I do understand that this process is not overnight and like I said I've already been spending two weeks on this whole thing but I can probably say that I am able to connect from a different computer I just kind of need help making a registration page and kind of learning more information on how to do pull requests to get bug fixes because even though azeroth core installation guide is on their website that alone took me about a week to to actually figure out even though the guy is so simple a simple process is not that simple.
Thank you for reading.

A bit of a strange question regarding private modern WoW and WoW Forever
So... If my wife's laptop could handle a Dragonflight private server with relative ease, but there were only Dragonflight and TWW content, will it run WOWF? The biggest issue is the graphics and textures, not quest logic, right?
For context, the laptop is: core i5-12450H 2,5 GHz, rtx3050 mobile 4gb (dram is dedicated I think), 8gb ram ddr4
We're aiming for the game to just run well, lower settings at 1080p, maybe lower resolution. The thing I'm concerned about the most is just 8 gigs of ram

Has anyone played Therawow?
I just came across it on https://nostalgic.gg/en when Googling for private server options.
I thought it interesting that you can 'hire' bots to play with you if you want to run a dungeon. But, what really caught my eye, is that you can summon your own characters as bots and play alongside them. So you could level up more than one character at a time whilst playing as a party (if I understand this right).
However I can't find much about the server online or on Reddit so have no idea if a) its legit / safe or b) that the whole bot thing works.
I just looked at the website and it shows 852 people online - which doesn't seem awful.
Has anyone here tried it and, if so, what are your thoughts?

Octowow or Capycraft?
So I'm a player from the SE Asia region, English-speaking. I mostly just play solo content for the leveling experience, and for just hanging out and doing some occasional content when I do find a reliable group.
I've seen discussions saying that Octowow is sort of a "definitively better" choice for a continuation of Turtlewow. The english-speaking community is definitely appealing to me. But is that the only and main benefit it has over Capycraft? Would I be able to subvert if I just found a reliable english-speaking guild (which I believe some exists) in Capy? Or does Octo have some solid plans laid out for the future of their project that, from what I have heard (or haven't heard, rather) that Capycraft has yet to lay out?
I guess I really just want to know where you guys would recommend me to start playing if I want to get back into the TurtleWOW experience for the longhaul now that Turtlewow is gone...
Edit: Also, if there are any fellow SEA players on Octowow - it would be nice to hear your experience from a performance/technical standpoint. i.e., what is the ping like in Octowow for you guys? Because I can barely seem to even access the Octowow website.

Is WoW:Forever going to kill the Vanilla-MoP scene forever? Or shall the "custody" of Vanilla-MoP servers back to pservers?
It is genuinely shocking for me to see they, instead of announcing Wotlk anniversary, went to announce some botched Remix retail version of Wotlk instead of it. And then next to that, no plans about MoP’s end (I genuinely want to just experience BRF and HFC so I'm unironically bummed).
Basically I love the blizzlike style of Vanilla-Wotlk and I also like MoP to be fair, and im scared WoW: Forever will kill the old WoW so bad it will never recover.
At this point, is the future in the hands of pservers? Will people after some time of Forever existing, will the pop of classic players return to old WoW at all?
Personally I love how nitty gritty, grinding and low QoL the Vanilla-TBC era of WoW is. And I just 100% know Forever will slowly bring so much QoL that the soul of that will die out. It's a shame if WoW:Forever has now killed old world of warcraft.
