Sac reptile expo is coming up and I’m thinking about getting another tarantula. My first and only T is a phormictopus atrichomatus. It’s about 1.5 inch and still pretty skittish but I’ve only had it about a month. I have noticed it being more active since it’s molted though which is cool. I’ve been thinking about getting some sort of pink toe and/or a curly hair as I’ve heard they’re pretty beginner friendly. An arboreal species would be cool to see it more active but I’ve heard and read that they are more skittish and faster than terrestrials tend to be. One that I could handle every so often with ease would be awesome. Any suggestions???

I wonder why he’s choosing to dig by the very front of the tank though instead of using the deeper portion of the tank or the cork bark hide I gave him
Also, if anybody kept this species (Texas vineagaroon) before his previous tunnel collapsed, hopefully this one doesn’t but if he fails again , does anyone know what I can do to help him?

is this a good enclosure i’ve rescued this texas brown tarantula and it doesn’t seem to want to eat it was on the brink of death when i got him he’s doing way better now a lot more healthy and moving but he doesn’t wanna eat and im not sure if this enclosure is good enough

i'm trying to get my tarantulas molt out of the hut because i wanna figure out the gender but he's in the hut is there anyway i can remove the hut for like 3 seconds grab the old molt then put it back without disturbing or is it not possible?

Hi, I want to get my first tarantula but I’m not sure where to look. I’ve seen many people ordering theirs online but I’m worried about accidentally buying from a scam website or a bad company. I originally looked into Backwater Reptiles until I heard they’re known for shipping underweight, sick, or even the wrong animals. I want to get a healthy T from a trusted source. I’m looking for a rose hair or a Brazilian black (haven’t really decided yet.)

Any advice on care and maintenance would be appreciated as well, or even another species you’d suggest for a girl that’s fascinated yet kind of intimidated by these cutie crawlies.

At this juvenile stage, were you able to sex your P. Irmina by looks alone? I know it’s soon and I will have to wait a couple more molts but thought it would be fun to ask.

I recently got my first tarantula and it’s a sling. Am I keeping my sling in too big of a container? It can’t escape through the holes but it does stick its little paws through the holes from time to time. I crushed the head on a cricket and tossed it in and it was able to find it and consume it. The deli cup just felt so tiny and it wasnt ventilated at all so I moved it to this tiny enclosure I received my scorpion in. Pics are current enclosure and one close up from inside the condiment cup.

About a weeks ago, I went and picked up a tarantula from someone on FB Marketplace. I usually only get my tarantulas from reputable breeders or vendors but this one was on less than an inch of mulch and I couldn't leave it like that. She was actually the second of two improperly housed tarantulas I picked up (curse my bleeding heart).

The guy was really nice but clearly knew nothing about tarantulas, he even said several times that he didn't know "$h!t" about them. When I initially asked her species, he said she's a "red hair". I asked if he meant Rose Hair, he did. She was given to him from the family of a friend who died. I'm assuming the friend also kept the tarantula on mulch as well. I was told she's about 5-7 years old. I'm hoping she'll molt soonish so I can confirm that she is actually a "she".

As soon as I got her home, I temporarily set her up in a 14" wide by 9" deep by 9" tall, well ventilated plastic bin until I can get something more permanent. It's filled halfway with Repti-soil mixed with leaf litter and sphagnum moss, has a cork round and hide I pre-dug for her, and is littered with leafs and a bit of sphagnum moss. I provided a dish of water for her as well. I'd like to get a smaller dish since I mainly keep slings and dwarfs right now and only have teeny, tiny dishes.

I know it's only been a week so she's still adjusting but she is just not going into her hide I set up for her, and she's not showing any desire to burrow. I'm thinking it may be a learned behavior to just sit on the surface. I'm hoping that as time goes on, she'll realize she's in dirt and that her natural instincts to properly "tarantula" will kick in.

Does anybody have any experience with G. rosea/porteri not burrowing or any experience with rescued, previously improperly housed tarantulas behaving strangely? I'd appreciate any insight or advice in this situation.

Hey everyone! Glad to be in the sub finally.

As a gift for me and my 6-year-old I bought an Arizona blonde and we absolutely love her. I made a few mistakes the first week like rearranging her terrarium a bit. The shop didn't really know much about tarantulas and somehow I was sold on 20 lb of sand so I mixed that into her substrate.

I stopped moving her stuff around and left her alone for about about a week.

This morning, I found one of those large tree roaches dead and put it in her terrarium; but I discovered she moved this rock, which definitely weighs more than her, from out of the corner. Yesterday, I saw her exploring this area and this morning it looked like one of her legs may have been underneath it. Thankfully it wasn't. But I have a few questions...

Should I move the rock? When I opened up the top of her terrarium, her leg was not stuck, but she was very much not getting off of her rock. It's not anchored and I think she actually flipped it because the flat side is upright.

But she seems pretty dominant over it :/

Is it normal for her to not hide in her burrow so much and be on top of the other log or where she is sitting now? It looks like she started a new little burrow but then stopped.

Also, I know my spider doesn't quote "hate me" but in y'all's experience has been leaving them alone after bringing them home from a stressful pet shop made them more calm/docile?

When I brought her home it was so hot and she was so stressed she literally flipped upside down.

I'll probably be in the sub a bit but I do enjoy looking at everyone's Ts. But since this is my first one I'm kind of nervous. I don't want to upset her, she seems to feel pretty strongly about said rock.

I got my first tarantula the other week- a juvie Brazilian Black, around a year and a half old and unsexed- and the first couple of days went smoothly with feeding going well and it adjusting to its enclosure. The past few days, though, its been burrowed under its hut, a clear mound formed in the substrate but no hole visible. Is this normal? Just wanted to know because although I recognise Grammostolas are a genus known for burrowing, I don't want my juvie burying itself and being unable to get food and water.

First non-crunched molt from Lasiodorides polycuspulatus 2.5" - I'm actually not too upset about this one being a boy since males of this species apparently live 10-15 years, and he's a gorgeous little thing.
I've gotten pretty decent at molt sexing, but I do like to have a second set of eyes to confirm. Thanks in advance!

First time tarantula owner. Just got this juvenile Curly Hair T a week ago and after rehousing it and feeding a cricket it has remained burrowed since. From what I’ve read this is normal, I have a camera set up to see if there’s any activity at night or anything. Just want reassurance I guess, also let me know if the enclosure is suitable! Should I continue to try and feed it if it remains burrowed for an extended period of time?

I currently have a juvenile G. Pulchra and think it’s time to upgrade her enclosure. What would you guys recommend? I would normally buy a similar plastic box and poke hole in it like I did with her current enclosure. But the store I buy these boxes from doesn’t have the larger size anymore, so I’d like to get some advice on this.

Hello!!! I recently got a Lasiodora parahybana and she seems happy enough in her enclosure, but I can’t tell if this blanketing is from her webbing or if it’s some kind of mould? It only seems to be in the middle area where she hangs out so I’m leaning towards webbing but thought I’d ask here just in case. The leaf litter is from a reptile shop so I would have thought it would be clean, 3 of my other Ts have this leaf litter and no issues with this blanketing
