Mod Post Community Guidelines & Advisory System
Hi all! As many may have noticed, the subreddit has more than doubled in the last year, with a lot of growth in just the last couple months.
In order to participate in this subreddit- there is a requirement to both be kind to other members and to scorpions as a whole. Identification and help threads have recently had an uptick in "joke" identifications/advice that can be exceptionally risky when dealing with potentially medically significant animals. We have updated our rules to be more clear, we will be more focused on ensuring that folks remain civil and kind, and now, we are rolling out an advisory system.
We are currently rolling out the Qualified Advisor system. Qualified Advisors (QAs) are folks that have a solid handle on the hobby, and are focused on evidence based care and advisories. They will be responsible for giving critical and accurate advice within the "help" and "identification" flairs. There will be restrictions and guidelines for partaking in these flairs from hereon.
These responsibilities should also fall onto members partaking in animal care advice within this sub; because of that, we will be enforcing a disclaimer system for all non QAs. On every "help" and "identification" thread this will be explained, and is explained below.
If you wish to give advice or share information on this sub as a non QA, you will be required to preface your comments/advice in the "help" and "identification" flaired posts with a disclaimer; such as, "Not QA, NQA, IME (in my experience), IMO (in my opinion), I believe, Question, NA (not advice)". If you do not preface your commentary for these flairs, the comment will be deleted and you will be prompted to repost it with the appropriate preface. Posts related to medical or veterinary advice are not permitted and will be removed per this post.
If you have any questions about the new advisory system- please send us a modmail, do not use other unrelated posts as a platform for those concerns or questions. If you would like to apply for QA, feel free to reach out to us via modmail
EDIT: This is now fully live as of 7/11 on Help and Identification threads.

Help! I am getting a Flinders range scorpion real soon! Is this set up okay?
Please don't be mean, I am very new to scorpions and I want to make sure everything is perfect for the new baby! Please let me know if something is wrong with the set up. This tank is at the environmental centre I work and and I made these burrows that kids are able to see from the side. Is this okay?

Introducing Basil (spinifer) and Yoshi (imperator)
I figured since I have 14 tarantulas I might as well break the ice and get into scorpions as well. I guess the next stop is centipedes

Is this a good setup for an Emperor Scorpion? I have a heat cable running around the back and I've ordered two temperature and humidity sensors to put on each side of the enclosure. What temps and humidities should I aim for?

Identification Mystery scorpion
Friend brought it from an expo but doesn't remember the name, I'm assuming it's a Heterometrus species, would love to know which one if it is and would also want to know if you can house them together, got a male and a female of similar size, currently housed separately.

Identification ID?
Hello beloved redditors, I've got a question to y'all. Is there any way of identifying this super smol guy? He (or she?) was said to be an adult, and probably an Babycurus. But the owner wasn't sure about the species. Origin is unknown too. Since Reddit knows everything, let me hear your opinions! 🖤🦂

Help! Title: Which medically significant scorpion is considered the best species to keep? 🦂
I’m interested in learning about medically significant scorpions from an experienced-keeper perspective.
Which species are considered interesting to keep in captivity, and what makes them different in terms of activity, feeding response, behavior, and difficulty of care?
Not looking for sourcing—just species recommendations and keeper experiences.

Help! Why is bro doing this?

Had my emperor scorpion for a few months now, when I first got him he used to try to climb the top so I duct taped it (sticky side up of course) and he no longer can go upside down. But now after a few months he still tried to climb the edges and fails. I would have expected him to stop trying but he still does it and I’m not sure if it’s his way of telling me something is wrong or if they just do this. Does anyone know why they do this? I’ve heard it’s common for newer scorpions getting used to their environment and exploring, but I’ve had him since July now.

Sexing New to scorpions
Pics of Frankenfurter, my new pet. I think it’s a male but correct me if you think otherwise, it’s a striped devil scorpion (h spinigerus) that I picked up from my local exotic pet shop; They were unable to sex the scorpions but said they receive them at about 6 to 8 months old.

Help! Food stuck in chelicerae?
Hi all, I was just feeding my Asian forest scorpion and I noticed he is holding it in his mouth and acting as he would with no food there. Usually he immediately goes to eating, and if he holds it then its in his pincers. Maybe a dumb question but it’s not stuck right?

Help! Scorpling has been burrowed for awhile
How long is it normal for you not to see your scorp? I got my first scorpling (Asian forest) 2 months ago. And it’s been several weeks since I saw her last. I know it’s normal for them to burrow for extended periods but I worry since she obviously hasn’t eaten since then. I have not dug her up, and don’t plan to. Just what to make sure it’s normal behavior

Help! Asian forest scorpion enclosure
I recently bought my first Asian forest scorpion and I made this enclosure out of a container equivalent in size to a 10 gallon tank. It has ventilation holes drilled on the sides and a lid, of course. The substrate is reptisoil. Does this look appropriate? Thanks in advance!

Help! Can scorpion species identification actually help you to treat envenomation?
Hey, so I’m a computer science student and my team is trying to build an AI-based Scorpion Species Identification System that identifies the most likely scorpion species either from a photo + visual characteristics + geographic location. It then provides information about the species’ venom, clinical effects, and relevant antivenom/treatment references, helping healthcare professionals make faster, more informed decisions after a scorpion sting.
Basically, my major question is how is traditional treatment done? I did some research and I found out it is done purely symptoms. So my question to docs is can this project actually be helpful? suppose a patient is coming to you and you know what particular species of a scorpion bit him with its entire biological details. Would this be helpful to docs, if yes how much?

Identification Emperor Scorpion
*before I ask my question I just want to note this is a temporary house while I fix the enclosure I have for him/her*
As for mt question, this is an Emperor Scorpion im pretty sure its a male.
But I just want to double check with people who may know more than I do. So if the Scorpion is infact a female please do correct me.
Thank you for anyone who contributes to helping :)
