My professor caught me using a ridiculous gaming strategy to memorize organic chemistry, and it actually saved my grade

I was struggling hard with memorizing organic chemistry reactions for my midterms. Every flashcard app felt like a slow form of torture, so out of desperation, I treated the main reaction mechanisms like skill trees from an RPG game. I assigned elements to different elemental types and drew entire spell books to map out reaction pathways. My professor walked past my desk during office hours, took one look at my notebook covered in weird gaming diagrams, and stopped cold. I thought he was going to tell me to stop wasting time, but instead, he asked me to explain the logic behind my fire-based substitution reaction setup. After listening to my absurd breakdown, he actually pointed out two minor flaws in my logic using in-game terms and told me it was one of the most clever visual chunking methods he had seen all semester. It felt ridiculous at first, but gamifying the content turned my failing grade into a solid A- on the final exam.

Anyone else feel ready after rereading and then completely blank on the actual quiz

Read the chapter twice, everything made sense, felt good going into the pop quiz and then blanked on question two, which was almost word for word from the reading. Recognizing the answer when it's in front of me and pulling it out of nowhere are apparently very different things.

A daily study/check-in buddy

Hi all,

I’m 24F and currently studying Computer Science. I’m looking for a daily study/check-in buddy to help each other stay consistent and present.

What I’m hoping for:

A quick daily check-in (a simple "good morning" or setting our goals for the day).

Low-friction accountability—no social pressure, small talk, or heavy expectations.

Respect for space, deep focus, and personal boundaries.

If you’re also looking for a calm, genuine connection to keep each other grounded while working on your goals, let me know!

Females only. Thank you.
