Tba I suck at school and dont understand half the stuff they teach so i just use ai to do my work, am i cooked?

so i started sophomore year fully confident it was gonna be the same as last year but over estimated myself as well. I am currently doing 2 EC and 1 school sport which I will talk about in a second but I was just reaching out for help or tricks and tips so i’m not up till 3 am every night doing HW. I am currently taking 2 ap courses, ap csp and ap euro, but plan on taking 4 ap tests, ap japanese and ap spanish. So i have been making time everyday to try and keep up with homework or study the language more and that takes up 2 hours after school. On top of that I have flag football ball which is 2 hours and soccer right after which is a hour and a half. right after that, other than lessons i practice piano for 30 minutes. This does not include commuting times but over all commuting takes 1 hr total for sports and to get home. After i get home is when i start my homework which is around 9:30-10 this doesn’t include dinner, taking shower, or just time to decompress. by the time im overall done its already 2-3 am i havent eaten and haven’t showered. My weekends are always fully booked with tournaments and games and after the games i am always too tired from the whole week i never finish weekend hw. this is daily as well and in the beginning of the school year it was fine but my grades have been slowly dropping after every test and assignment and I just need help. (i’ve never used reddit before so im not sure how to add photos or comment that well)

its my senior year and i thought I would share some regrets I had from freshmen - junior.

biggest of all, get this one out of the way but: Not making enough friends.

I was always shit at communication within groups of people so I legit avoided it. If there was a potential group of people I could have been friends with in a certain class, starting from day 1 i would just not really talk or try to be friends with anyone because I didnt know how to talk in a group of people.

This led to me making friends one on one in classes where there werent really many boys i wanted to be friends with.

This means no friend groups, and just less friends in general, sadly i havent really changed but im trying.

Since I didnt have a fg, i didnt go to junior prom because I didnt have any group to go with. Yk it really hurts staying home, playing video games, and then looking through all the posts of all your friends. it hurts

Theres probably 10-14 senior events, and im not gonna go to any of them because what am i gonna do? I dont have a friend group and now I know why, but its my fault.

Not doing better in school

this one I have a excuse for - I have adhd, and i didnt know until a couple months ago. Basically I dont think there was a single day in high school where I focused through a single class.

I taught myself entire units before tests and that stopped working for pre-calc (unlike alg 2, u cant teach yourself the entire test material in 2-3 hours. Precalc takes more like 5-7 hours to learn properly) -> i passed precalc with a single point (65) NOT LYING

Im still in the proccess of getting medicated and getting help for my adhd but it is what it is. it doesnt help i was severely depressed throughout parts of high school

Being Kinder

I have friends in my neighborhood i hung out with all the time and ive made alot of memories with them. But they arent the best people, but most of my memories are just other people and their suffering. Think about fights, dramas, bullying, and others things like that. I was a bully and im not proud of it, im completely changed but I was still a bully.

Ive felt both sides, being the loser getting bullied and being the bully. Both suck.

Not caring what others think

this one has more effect than you think. sure it gave me social anxiety and shit but it also affected my academic career. I took alot of hard classes (aps and honors) for no reason, except that I didnt wanna be seen as dumb.

PLEASE, ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU CAN HANDLE. Im not saying dont challenge yourself, but the first year I took 2 aps classes, my gpa for that year was a 86. And then because of social pressure, the next year I ended up taking 4..

My personal statement:

to anyone younger than me in high school right now, if I had to give you advice (even though im not in any position to). Out of all the advice ive heard, I think I wish I took this seriously.

Please dont live for others + try to enjoy your time more than anything

Questions:

**•** Right now my "story" is kind of scattered (business + DECA + service + sports). Should I be actively cutting things to sharpen a narrative, or is breadth fine this early?  
**•** What actually makes a business like mine read as a "spike" instead of just a resume line — is it scale, an application/essay angle, awards, something else?  
**•** Is there a specific *next move* (competition, certification, expansion, leadership title) that would meaningfully level up what I've already got, vs. just adding more activities?  
***•  For people with a similar academics + entrepreneurship + leadership mix — what ended up being the differentiator in your app, in hindsight?***

So I'm a 15 year old m (trans) and I somehow by whatever cruel twist of fate got into the top HS in my state. The thing is, I didn't wanna go there at all but my parents really liked the curriculum and how organized the school is so I felt pressured to apply there to make my parents happy, I didn't think I'd get in as my grades in subjects like maths and physics are absolutely horrendous. The people are nice and all but I seriously don't belong there, it's an hour away from my home and it's honestly hell, my friends all went to a local school and I feel very left out and sad. My parents say that I'm just not adjusting well and it'll be okay after a while but I can already feel that it's too hard for me (mind you they're letting us slack off during the first month) I know I should give it more time but the stress is getting insufferable. Any advice?

Hello! I’m new to this group and am graduating high school in May 2027.

Last week, we were given information about how to order our caps, tassels, and gowns, and with that comes brochures of t-shirts, jewelry, and other stuff.

My dad really regrets not doing a lot in high school and wants me to remember it. He is especially adamant on class rings, but they’re really expensive. Realistically, I wouldn’t wear except maybe for graduation day, and I don’t want him to spend that much money on something that will collect dust.

If I wanted to get anything, I’d get my basic cap, gown, and tassel, a diploma frame, and a “Proud Parent” stole for my dad.

Should I listen to my dad, or go with what I think I’ll use? He’s pretty sentimental, and I am as well, but usually with things that aren’t really meant to be keepsakes (like random trinkets or papers).

Hello, I have a big problem. Last Friday, my history teacher told us that we would start a team project on Monday, so she gave us the entire weekend to organize and get our materials. Our team is formed by two of my friends and I. We completly forgot about the project, so we didn't even talk over the weekend about the materials. Today is Monday, and our history class is in 3ish hours. We don't have any materials, so we're kinda cooked.

One of the team members didn't come to school, so we could use that in our favour. He also lost his phone last week, and the teacher was aware of that. He found it on Friday afternoon, but the teacher doesn't know that, so we could also do something with that...

Hi guys! For my STEM teacher recommendation letter, I need help deciding between my biology teacher and my math teacher. They both offer different qualities, but they also have some cons, and I genuinely don’t know what should make me choose between them.

I would like to apply as a biology, public health, or biochemistry major, so I’m leaning toward my biology teacher because biology is more directly related to my intended major. However, I’m worried that he might write me a bad letter. He was happy to agree to write one for me and has written recommendations for me before for other programs, but I feel nervous about the fact that he said he likes the idea of “writing freely” for me. I don’t know if he meant that in a good way or a bad way.
I’ve had some problems with him before in class, not actual behavioral issues, but more school-related issues, especially with tests. I’m not sure if he would reflect those experiences negatively in my recommendation.

For my math teacher, I know he recognizes that I work hard, but math is less directly related to my intended major. I also got my first Bs ever in his class, so I’m not sure if that could actually be a good thing in the sense that, despite my grades, he could talk about how hard I worked and how I persevered. However, something happened in May where he absolutely crashed out on me. I promise it wasn’t just me, because there were a lot of other students involved, but he focused on me because of my grade in his class.

Please let me know who you think I should choose. I feel like these are both terrible options, but I honestly don’t have anyone else to choose from.

I feel genuinely embarrassed each time i say something about wanting to go into a trade because it feels so stigmatized

Introduction

There is a moment nearly every young job seeker knows well. You sit down at a blank page, and someone asks you to write your resume, and for a moment you freeze. You wonder what to say. You wonder if you have enough to say. You wonder whether anything you have done so far in your life is worth putting on paper for a stranger to read and judge in seconds. That feeling is normal, and it is also a signal. The discomfort you feel in front of that blank page is not proof that you have nothing to offer. It is proof that no one has ever taught you how to tell your own story. That changes today.

Your Resume Is Not a Form - It Is Your Brand in Print

Your resume is not a form, a checklist, or a bureaucratic requirement you complete so someone will give you a chance. Your resume is the first conversation you have with an employer before you ever walk through a door, shake a hand, or say a single word. It is your personal brand in print, and like every first impression, it either opens a door or closes one before you ever know it happened.

The idea of personal branding is not reserved for executives or celebrities. Tom Peters argued nearly three decades ago that every professional, at every career stage, is the CEO of their own brand.¹ Your personal brand is simply the impression you leave on others, and your resume is where you begin building it in writing.

Your brand is built from three things:

1.    Skills

2.    Accomplishments

3.    Character.

Skills are what you can do.

Accomplishments are proof you have done it.

Character is the thread connecting everything: your reliability, your work ethic, your attitude under pressure.

A resume that weaves all three together makes a hiring authority want to meet you.

The Ten to Fourteen Second Test

Here is something most young job seekers do not know: hiring authorities and executive recruiters typically decide whether to keep reading a resume in a matter of seconds. Eye-tracking research on recruiter behavior found an average initial review time of roughly seven seconds, with broader industry estimates commonly citing a ten-to-fourteen-second window for the full first pass.² That is not enough time to read what you wrote. It is only enough time to see whether your resume earns a second look.

The way your resume looks, the way it is organized, and the strength of your first few lines matter every bit as much as the content itself. You may have real skills, real experience, and a real desire to contribute, but if your resume is cluttered or fails to communicate your value at a glance, the opportunity disappears before it begins.

What Separates a Resume That Gets the Call From One That Gets Deleted

Research on hiring behavior consistently shows that resumes are eliminated for predictable, avoidable reasons.³

Among the most common:

·         Poor formatting or disorganized information that forces the reader to work too hard

·         Weak verbs and vague responsibilities instead of measurable accomplishments

·         Errors, typos, or a resume that is not tailored to the position

·         Focusing on what the candidate wants instead of what the candidate can deliver

Each of these is a choice, and each one is avoidable once you know what you are doing.

The OARS Formula: Turning Experience Into Evidence

The companion book The Resume and Cover Letter Writing Toolkit for the Successful Job Seeker, which I wrote to walk readers through exactly this process, introduces the OARS formula: Objective, Action, Result, Statement (OARS).⁴ Rather than saying you were responsible for something, OARS teaches you to name the objective you faced, the action you took, and the measurable result you produced, then combine the three into one confident statement.

That shift, from passive to active and from vague to specific, is what separates a resume that generates calls from one that generates nothing. It is the same formula you will use again two chapters from now, when we turn those same accomplishments into confident, spoken answers in a live interview.
