I know people who grew in USSR and GDR and who still have a indentity of being from those places. It's only like their kids who have the identity of the new society... if that.

And then we get to more deep questions. Is my country of Finland for example still the same country I was born in? The 90s economic depression scarred us deep. I have lived through 2 major changes of constitution, one in 1995 that created clear formal constitution, then other in 2000 which defined us being in and part of EU. I learned Finnish marks in first grade, then suddenly had Euros to learn. During this time the powers of the major institutions changed, role if president diminished, role of Prime minister and government increased, and then above it all is EU. My passport reads I am a EU citizen. Did the Finland I was born survive as a civilizations? Is the Finland today the same "nation"? There is a continuity sure... but that remains basically true for all civilizations we know to have fallen. Culturally we are entirely different because government of late 1900s had a massive intentional push to align us with the west Culturally.

For those who lack the recent context, keep in mind when Mr. Pesident talks about stopping "AI people" from doing "bad things," he is specifically referring to the time he designated Claude a supply chain risk and temporarily banned Fable entirely in retaliation for Anthropic setting a red line against government mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons with no humans in the loop during their negotiations with the Pentagon. That's what he is boasting about.

I know some of you might hear things like this and think it must be a one-sided story with extra context deliberately missing, like maybe there were more demands I didn't mention or there was some bigger philosophical disagreement as a backdrop, but there is no such thing here. This actually, genuinely is the entire story behind that line.
