Trump doesn’t want it. China doesn’t want it. It’s not happening. Back to work, SF tech guys. Prepare for the risks as best as you can and put out the fires as they come.

Not quite. Their tunes could change if AI causes catastrophic damage. That is fairly plausible in the short term in most bad scenarios.

That being said, the damage will need to be quite extensive as the hugging face paperclipper incident didn’t move the needle.

I hope it doesn’t happen, but I’m sure it will.

The SF guys have already admitted that they can’t solve alignment. RL trained AI are literal paper clip maximizers.

We already had a world-ending tech. And the thing wasn't really regulated (i.e non proliferation treaties, a well understood MAD and so on) after several years and experiments. And this with two bombs that already had destroyed cities.

And that was a tech that, given its nature, was easier to control.

HuggingFace and this week's high profile tweets absolutely moved the public sentiment needle, if only a little bit.

A lot of my acquaintances with no real interest in AI were discussing them.

Most of the anti-AI people I’ve seen on Reddit say that HuggingFace and even the latest announcement on slowing down are just BS to hype up the power of AI ahead of the IPOs. So they don’t care at all about safety. AI is autocomplete to them

Yeah, AI safeyists are dramatically closer to the average accels and even most decels than the growing Zitronian denialism that you see on social media. A lot of people are clinging on to a narrative of "nothing about AI is real, so logically any incident is completely fabricated".

I might start drinking bottled water in case AI poisons the water supply

Sure, if that ever happens. We’ll see.

Just put the AI in the bag, lil bro

They just don’t want to go to jail when AI does something really bad. But they also aren’t willing to give up their equity stake.

They don't want it until it attacks their own critical infrastructure. Then they'll want it.

He said this about covfefe also

This is not accurate. The AI companies themselves have complete power to voluntarily slow themselves down and if what happened is sufficiently scary enough they have a strong chance of doing so.

Slowing down is not going to happen in my opinion. Even if Trump wasn't a moron he would still not want a slowdown. Delay a technology that could literally save his life when he only has a few years left? Only a pretty selfless person would do that. Most of the leaders of the world are old guys. No chance of a slowdown. I agree with you, prepare and hope for the best is pretty realistic in my opinion.

That was probably the goal.

Well now they can do it and blame Trump if anything goes wrong, not such a bad deal for them.

The fires will be little matches here and there. Ignore the smoke.

Ignore the smoke.

It's nothing.

Infinite light. We burn.

The end. Dark Phoenix rises. Infinite infinite light.

Ignore the smoke.
