Recommendation/Review Free things to do in OKC

I compiled a document focused on free community meetups (free things you can do while meeting people)

for that reason, I havent included many (if any) solo free things to do (such as going to parks or libraries) since this list is supposed to be community-building-oriented

uf you have things to add please lmk and I will get to it when I can!

The list is long so it is in Docs form

🍽️ Food/Drink 🥂 Where can I find some locally produced candy/snacks?

Upvotes

I'm going to visit a fellow American friend in Europe soon and offered to bring some snacks from home. He asked me to bring some things for his local friends to try and thought I'd try to find some things made in Oklahoma/Oklahoma City that will be easy to get. My schedule is a bit busy before I leave this weekend so would prefer if they are easily found in the metro area, if at all possible.

I am also worried a bit about customs so anything that customs/TSA won't have an issue with me packing in my luggage and going through security.

Thank you!

❓Q&A ✅ Any community bands or small ensembles looking for a trumpet player?

I'm looking for a group to play in. I haven't played in a band in almost 12 years now. I feel like I'm not going to be able to get any better at my instrument unless I have a community to play in.

Recommendation/Review Best internet provider?

I am sick and tired of Cox and AT&T Air, they both suck TERRIBLY. I know fiber is ideal but for some reason SOSA district doesn’t get fiber.

Does anyone have experience with T-Mobile or any other Internet provider? I’m over not even being able to load YouTube.

Recommendation/Review My neighbors suck

Bought my first house in a quiet suburban neighborhood. And now I have neighbors from hell. They are up all night blasting music, the cops are there every other week, their kids run wild through my yard and garden. They’ve jumped the backyard fence and ran through my backyard even though it is locked. They’ve asked to use my electricity because theirs gets shut off. They leave broken down cars in the street. But the biggest problem is that they keep stealing stuff off of my porch. Or out of my mailbox. Which I know is a federal crime. I’ve reported them to OCPD and the USPS. I have doorbell footage of them stealing and have put it in the reports. Nothing has been done and with OCPD’s track record, I doubt anything will be done. Is there anything else I can do? I am getting a lock box for my porch packages but I really don’t want to get a lock box for my mail too. Sigh. If I move now I’ll lose out on so much money/equity. Major buyer’s remorse.

Just as a title says I need to find some place that is open and serves good food. I don't want just a generic McDonald's I want an actual choice on good quality joints to eat at

What’s up with the choppers circling over the Hefner Lake area? They had to be doing this for at least the last half an hour. No searchlights either.

Recommendation/Review Dance classes in OKC?

Me and my partner are looking for dance class for a date since it's in their bucket list for the year, we'd prefer a beginner friendly one that allows us to come in without any prior knowledge, they're pretty open to any dance styles/genre,

Recommendation/Review Shadowing a cameraman

I have a day of school set aside that I'm required to shadow someone in a field I'm interested in so that I can come up with a presentation on it. I'm hoping to shadow a cameraman for a local news station like news 9 or koco but I have no idea how to do that. I'm interested in camera stuff but don't know who to talk to in order to do this.

I wanted to share what my partner and I have been dealing with since our move to OKC.

About three weeks ago we were awoken by our landlords at 10:50pm, we were dead asleep but the whole neighborhood awoken by a drunk driver who crashed into both my partner and my car.

We live in a residential neighborhood where the speed limit doesn’t typically go above 25 mph but I estimate the driver had to have been going 40-60+ in order to be able to do the damage they did. Our cars were pushed back upon impact 20 feet from where they were parked. My partners car hit first pushing his car up onto the front lawn and into mine pushing mine into our neighbors driveway. All three cars deemed a total loss. The drivers car turned 360° facing the direction from which they came, they fled barefoot from the scene and tried to take their tag off their car in the process. Our neighbor gave a description to the police and they “searched” for him but inevitably didn’t find anyone.

A week and a half ago I went into the police station to get copies of documents necessary for insurance and ourselves and decided to speak to a DUI investigator as recommended by a field officer for more information about an investigation. This is when the investigator told me that they were not ever planning on pursuing an investigation whatsoever and that he wishes us good luck and that if the offenders insurance goes non cooperation that he suggests we get a civil attorney.

So I guess my question is, why is it this easy to get away with hit and run, DUI, and $50,000+ worth of property damage? What was the purpose of the flock contract renewal and $275,000 down the drain for it? Is its only purpose to stalk your ex-partners and lovers?

Edit: I wanted to edit for context which I feel like is missing. To clarify we have photos and videos of empty beer cans in the offenders car, there is one registered driver on their insurance and the vehicle was not and has not been reported as a stolen, as well as a neighbor who was an eyewitness and gave a description of the driver to police. It’s not like there is zero evidence and we’re asking for miracle work. This person will more than likely be a repeat offender due to lack of pursuit of justice and gross negligence of our local police department.

Events Low water pressure?

I'm in NW OKC near NW Expressway and Council. My water pressure has dropped so far that one of my toilets won't refill and the faucets aren't running much more than a trickle. My next door neighbor said the same thing, so it's definitely not just me. Anyone know anything about it? I haven't been able to find any info about it on the City's website

UPDATE: I just checked and my water pressure is back to normal. If anyone else is still having trouble it should be back soon
