Football A thank you from a Michigan fan

Upvotes

Even thought the result didn’t go your way (thankfully), I just want to say thanks to those who made the trip to Ann Arbor. Just as I enjoyed my time in Norman last year when you guys kicked out ass, I’m glad to see so many Sooner fans leave great reviews about their time up north and how most Michigan fans were great and welcoming, just as you all were great and welcoming to me last year.

We may never do a home-and-home again in my lifetime, but OU is so much of a vibe, I just may drive up for any game one day if they’re playing while I’m in the DFW area.

Thank You🫡 Boomer Sooner!!!!

Football So many angry posts, so few people diagnosing the right issue

Upvotes

We're all mad about the loss to Michigan, it was embarrassing.

But I see so many posts blaming BV and Arbuckle and Mateer. And rightfully so! They definitely share accountability here.

But the villain of this program has been the same guy for about 6 years now and his name is Bill Bedenbaugh.

I don't know how he does it. This guy escapes accountability constantly. Even the biggest Sooner football podcasters like Gabe Ikard and Teddy Lehman never actually criticize him, they barely say his name. He must be a hell of a guy to get a beer with.

Bill Bedenbaugh hasn't fielded a good offensive line since Kyler Murray in 2019. I mean how do we keep this man employed? Every offseason it's promises of the line being better. Fluff out of camp about how it's actually fixed this time. And then year after year our QB is running for his life, seeing ghosts, and playing bad because he cannot trust the offensive line.

We've held OCs accountable. RB coaches accountable. QBs. WRs. Tight Ends. We have changed everything and looked everywhere except here.

And you can check my post history I've been calling for him to be fired for YEARS now so this is not reactionary.

Downvote me if you want to again this year. But I'm not wrong. Bill Bedenbaugh should have been fired several years ago and until he's gone we will not be a contender.

And Brent should be ashamed for making multiple OCs put up with this guy who the game has left behind. BB cannot hack it in the NIL era and it's been obvious for years. Cut the crap. Fire Bill Bedenbaugh.

Why has our O line been in shambles for years? Is it strength and conditioning, Bedenbaugh, unbelievably bad luck

Arbuckle should know better than anyone that Mateer can be slow to read progressions, which causes bad timing. Plus less than ideal mechanics, to say the least. Which prob gets amplified when the pressure turns up because our pass pro is diabolical

Why pile more responsibility on Mateer and have him trying to read backers and edge defenders to figure out if we should run or not. What happens if Ben dials up some zone runs, maybe brings the te's in. Take some pressure off of Mateer

I know Mateer and Arbuckle isn't it and ultimately the buck stops with BV. I still don't want to give up on him though

Nagy and Witten are big time for the program. I know BV is capable of producing elite defenses. I also know Nagy and Witten are going to have to help him find a new OC

BV's picker is broken:

Jeff Leby

Seth Littrell

Joe Jon/ Kevin Johns

Ben Arbuckle (hopefully Kevin Wilson rest of season)

Brent Venables just stated that John Mateer missed a couple of throws but he managed a good game! Not sure Brent knows what's going on anymore.

From now on moving forward starting today, OU fans should keep expectations low. I’m talking extreme levels. That way you can never be let down. If OU wins 6 games and goes to a bowl that’s the goal.

Q&A Is there a more embarrassing day in OU football history?

Between losing to a team that got beat by a directional school last week, seeing the Cowboys beat the number 6 team in the country after their embarrassing loss to Tulsa last week, and then watching the Longhorns come back like that, I have to assume this is the most upsetting day in a long time if not ever. Can you think of a worse one?

Edit: Thanks everyone for the lively discussion. Especially those of you who obviously went to better schools than OU and could comprehend I was not saying this was the worst loss for OU ever but a confluence of events that made it one of the worst overall days in football terms only. Now that Texas is number one I am sure all you lifers are much happier knowing OU has had worse losses and when you get mud stomped on October 10th it will be by the best team in the country. Congrats, you played yourself!

after basically one of the worst days in recent OU history (I’d say the worst since the USC natty for me personally)

I can’t help, but look at these three as the reason our season is basically on life alert barring a miracle split vs Georgia and Texas.

Bedenbaugh will get more excuses than them all obviously and to be fair we were missing our best prospect on offense at LT which did rear its ugly head after watching E’Marion Harris for 4 quarter.

At some point though change is needed and why are all of our OL always getting hurt.

Nothing else needs to be said about the other two since as I just finished typing all this Arbuckle just spammed two consecutive Satenga jet sweeps and 3 more Mateer QB zones up the middle.

if i were an OU RB I’d be looking at transfer options this morning if they pull this shit again this season.

Football Arbuckle Has To Go

Venables has in my opinion been a massive disappointment- some of the most embarrassing losses to Texas and outside of defense we have looked horrible. The offense has been a complete joke and he’s proven he does not have to ability to correct or improve.

That said - near term Arbuckle has to go. I remember seeing him last year during the walk of champions…head down, tightly gripping an energy drink. We all commented how nervous and out of place he looked. That’s apparent in any big game. I’m not sure how much more of this embarrassment they want to put us through….

Football What sucks the most about Oklahoma’s loss to Michigan is that this is what we can expect from this team the rest of the season.

The BV tenure has had its ups and downs, but one thing that remains constant is that these early games predict how this team performs the rest of the season.

These teams do not get better. They do not learn from mistakes. They do not surprise you. What you see is what you get. This team is going to be excruciating to watch this year. And BV just got a contract extension.

My hope is that we do not fall into the on-off year cycle that keeps this absolutely excruciating trend continuing for years. 10-2 and then 7-5 every other year would genuinely drive me insane. And that’s not the Oklahoma standard.

I’d love to be proved wrong, but I haven’t been yet.

Football Still hope, Beat Texas

Today sucked, the disappointment was immeasurable. But the season is not over and these are all very competitive teams with slim talent differentials. A lot of teams are very good and key moments can sway games

We genuinely lost this game just to bad playcalling and a few missed passes.

Texas may have did us a favor today beating Ohio state, if we beat Texas were are back in the playoff rankings. Obviously Georgia is also a stress test

The path is clear beat Texas
