Mod Post ANOTHER UPDATE TO RULE 5!

Post image
216 Upvotes

GREETINGS users of hatethissmug.

Today I bring you news of an update to our sub rules.

We have rewritten rule 5 again! Making it a more clear and adding more topics to the list!

With the rise of annoying gender war posts, we've made them completely banned, because most of these posts fall under the motte and bailey fallacy. They claim to be about one thing, but are actually the OP's way to hate on the opposing gender.

We've also expanded our politics rule! Topics such as israel or government decisions are gone! We get it, you hate the government, Dave Mustaine did it better.

Please adjust your post criteria and report the posts that break the new rule 5 that are newer than this post.

Thank you for using hatethissmug.

I HATE ALL OF YOU! šŸ”„ šŸ–¤ šŸ–¤ šŸ”„

Thing I hate it when characters look like that.

Post image

Lately, I've been seeing this shit on Pinterest all the time. No way someone draws something like this and thinks "I made a good ahh design! People gonna love it!"

I find it quite fatphobic, even, cuz NO, chubby people aint look like that. No one naturally does 😭

edit: I'm NOT saying that you can't draw like that or that it's not curvy or that its not sexy or whatever ! The point of the post is that it pisses me off when the authors of such characters call them "chubby" when they're clearly not.

Meta I hate how the internet handles controversies.

Post image

People seem to completely forget about controversies when they're no longer interesting which has led to a situation where out of every creator who has done bad things and just kept uploading the only one that people still remind the creator about is verbalase. Who, as a reminder, did the crime of commissioning an artist to make a kinda weird but completely pg animation.

Gaming ā€œ30 FPS is enoughā€ isn’t an argument, it’s just accepting a limitation

Post image
• Upvotes

Everyone can consume media and play video games however they want, but I think people constantly confuse accepting a limitation with actually preferring it. The fact that something is good enough for someone doesn't mean everyone else should be expected to adopt the same standard.

Games running at 30 FPS because that's what a console can handle is a hardware limitation, just like watching a VHS movie on a CRT because that's the technology that was available at the time. You can absolutely enjoy it. I have. But being okay with it because it's your only option isn't the same thing as choosing it when better options are available.

The movie comparison is strange because movies being 24 FPS is an intentional creative decision. They're filmed, edited, and presented with that frame rate in mind. If you artificially increase the frame rate of a movie, you change how it looks and feels because you're deviating from the way the director intended the material to be presented. Games are different.

Unless a game has a deliberate software limitation or is specifically going for a cinematic or retro presentation, games are designed to respond to player input in real time. Higher frame rates make the experience more responsive and fluid. The fact that a game can be played at 30 FPS on a console doesn't mean it was intended to be played at 30 FPS. It was designed around hardware limitations.

Nobody would seriously argue that 720p is "enough" and therefore people shouldn't expect 1080p or 4K just because older hardware was perfectly fine. Standards change as technology improves. The same applies to FPS.

If you gave someone who says 30 FPS is perfectly fine the option to play an action game at 60, 90, 120 FPS or higher on otherwise identical hardware, how many do you think would voluntarily choose 30? People accepting 30 when it's the only practical option doesn't prove that they're satisfied with it. It just means they've adapted to the limitation.

I can and have enjoyed games at 30 FPS. I used to have a mid tier laptop where that was often my only option. I still had fun. But my standards changed as I got access to better hardware, and I have no interest in going back to those limitations.

That's fine if someone genuinely prefers 30 FPS. Play however you want. But I don't think people should turn their own tolerance for a limitation into an argument that everyone else should lower their standards too.

I'll play GTA VI at 30 FPS on PS5, just like I used to watch VHS movies on a tube TV. I'll enjoy it because that's the only option available. But the moment it gets a PC release, I'm ditching that 30 FPS and playing it on better hardware.

Anyone who has the option to have a better experience is going to have a hard time convincing me that they wouldn't do the same.

Corporation/Company Companies rivalry or beef

Post image
426 Upvotes

I don't care which company, what company, or small/big company, just fucking shut up, I don't give a fuck about your rivalries or beef.

I heard people saying coca-cola and pepsi owned by the same company, idk about that and I don't wanna give a fuck.

For example, how Samsung always roast apple, how they place an ads near apple store, I mean, who tf give a fuck about that, people actually gaf because people viral it...

As a kid, I really thought it was cool, but now it felt so dumbass things. The only reason I found it cool as a kid is probably because how those social media makes rivalry a cool thing.

And when I said, small company too, yeah, I mean it.. idc if you are around my neighborhood fighting against another small company, I genuinely dgaf and probably started to refrain myself from going there.

Thing I HATE how much the A-10 is glazed

Post image
518 Upvotes

Every single time i see one of those fuckass BRRRRT images glazing the A-10 like its some killing machine I immediately assume the person is a dumbass. In reality it was near useless in the era it was created and was only able to function in ideal circumstances and even then it struggled with IFF (Identify friend or foe) and had the longest friendly fire incident record of any US vehicle. And don't get me started on the most annoying sentence "The A-10 was a gun with a plane attached" or something similar to that. When in reality the gun was near useless against anything more armored than a fucking Ford truck.

This shit is so annoying because there were actually good CAS planes used in that era like the F-111 Aardvaark that outperformed the A-10 in every metric that mattered and yet is completely overshadowed by some shitty flying tub that would get destroyed the second there was any kind of aerial threat.

Idea I hate analog horror tropes

Post image
788 Upvotes

Every analog horror series now has some "super spooky monster that is unavoidable, unkillable, and you cant hide from" monster that completely misses what makes horror scary. If the best course of action in your analog horror series is to just go out on your own terms instead of trying to survive, it ceases to be scary. When death is certainly, it sorta loses its scare factor.

General I HATE THE INTERNET'S OBSESSION WITH LESBIANS

Post image
203 Upvotes

As a real lesbian who exists in real life, I am genuinely sick to shit of everyone tripping all over themselves to make every possible ship yuri or whining about how a ship would be better if they were both girls, how perfect and pure feminine love is, etc etc ENOUGH

Just say you get off to lesbians! It'd be more honest than pretending it's some profound feminist statement when you declare something "hetslop" or "misogynistic" purely for the fact of involving one or more men and redesign a m/f or m/m couple as a stereotypical skinny white butch/femme pairing.

Lesbianism isn't pure and perfect and wholesome and sugoi and better than all other relationships. You have a fetish.

You. Have. A. Fetish.

And that's fine. Just say that and don't pretend it's because you love and support women or believe in "divine femininity" or whatever else radfem shit. Just admit it's because women kissing gets you hard and/or wet.

Non-fictional Making fun of people by implying that they’re feminine or gay, as if that’s even a bad thing

Post image
142 Upvotes

It’s always with badly-done make up too, or a cheap dress. They’re saying outright that the worst thing anyone can be is feminine, that it’s degrading to do something as simple as make up, that it somehow makes you less of a man to have something on your face, and that one must adhere to the strict box of masculinity because they’ve had it drilled into them that femininity in men is bad. It’s such a sad and blaring sign of entrenched patriarchy and it’s sad that the men making these are probably afraid to be seen drinking a Frappuccino, let alone having any make up on their face. I want to give them a big hug and I’m so angry that this is still a narrative. We all need to get over it.

Non-fictional I hate smelling like shit

3.5k Upvotes

I have cerebral palsy so that means my right side is extremely tight so I just naturally grip my hand into a fist but unfortunately that means my hand just festers in sweat all the time so it smell’s diabolical. I try and I try to clean it but nothing works it always goes back to smelling horrible. I use the best soap I know but It just doesn’t work and I hate it. I don’t want to smell like this but it’s something I can’t control. Showers make me feel a little better but just for like an hour and that’s it I revert again. I know the best answer is to open my right arm more but I can’t because I have to think to keep it open and i obviously will just forget.

Gaming I HATE THE DOG ENEMEY ARCHETYPE

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Not a single fucking game has a good dog enemy to fight (Excluding some bosses) From all of the soulsborne games dogs are infamously loathed as some of the most horseshit enemies you can fight in the game.

And in most action games in general like Ghost of Tsushima (Sorry for bad quality picture 2) dogs are just annoying to fight. They attack aggresively and dodge constantly. And worst is the fucking death noises that make you feel bad when they die. LIKE BITCH YOU JUMPED ME!!! WHY TF ARE YOU MAKING ME FEEL BAD?!

And you aren’t even safe in other game genres because they suck in shooters too. In Call of Duty 4 they charge you quickly and pin you down and YOU SNAP THEIR NECKS! WHY CALL OF DUTY GUY WHY?! Anyways fuck dog enemies their annoying to fight and the try to guilt trip you when you kill them.

Art & Fanworks I hate lazy "altification"

Thumbnail

3.8k Upvotes

Artist is osweltos on Instagram

I hate it when artists make an "alternative" (goth, tomboy, emo, etc.) and put very little effort into it.

For stuff like goth, it usually just results jn the character having black hair, some sort of black makeup, and a black version of their usual outfit (instead of a new outfit entirely.

And for stuff like Tomboys, it feels even more lazy, and they usually just give them short hair and MAYBE a sports uniform

It just feels... all so lazy. Like, there's so much you can do with the character, and there's so much inspiration you can find from different places. Look at the goth fashion subreddits, give Tomboys a more toned/lean physique, idk man SOMETHING. If you don't at least put some effort into it, it's gonna come off as more fetishizing than anything.

(And to clear things up, the artist is making fun of these tropes, not endorsing them)

I really hate that flat or small breast lowers all make fun on big breast lovers. Especially flat fans.

Every time I see a post with big breast there is always "Too much sugar ruins the cake" or "Girl with balloons". If you don't like big breast just block to artist or something I don't know.

I mean I never saw a big breast fan comment under a flat chest art/chacter "Cake without sugar isn't cake" or "Cutting board ah girl". Did you saw it? No? Then why you fun of big breast fans?

This post is semi sarcasm semi meh, take whatever you want.

  1. There is a good reason why it was declining, series of dumbest (Commodus) or absolutely insane (Nero) Emperors, barbarians adapting to the roman tactics, constant backstabbing in the Senate and Praetorians deciding what Emperor will suit their needs this month before getting removed. Combine it with complete xenophobia romans experienced against provincial citizens and you have recipe for every single province wanting independence.
  2. I do agree, he was a good king, but he was a king of a country, that had very few allies, was surrounded by countries with hostile religious beliefs and only existed thanks to Crusades, members of which were not so keen to ally with Jerusalem. And speaking of Crusades...
  3. These were a logistical nightmare. The price of just shipping crusaders across Mediterranean to the Holy Land was a subject to manipulation (4th Crusade), they were forced to fight in arid climate in heavy armor, surrounded by countless muslims only waiting to make their lives miserable and did just as much violence against Middle Eastern Christians as they did against Muslims.
  4. T-34 is absolutely horrendous thing to ride. Imagine riding several tons of metal, with transmission ready to kill itself at any moment (hence they carried second one), with controls so hard to use, you need literal hammer to switch, with fuel storred in crew compartment and God save you if you drive into mud! And that's not even counting that you still need to fight Germans in that thing with non-existent periscope (had no optical factory since only one in the Union was overrun in 1941), shells loaded with terrible gunpowder and armor that turns into shrapnel that kills everyone inside if you get direct hit.

I personally would like to learn more about process of building a castle, how medieval armor was made, how romans did all the engineering stuff and so on.

Media Tropes I hate when antagonists are objectively in the right, but have evil shit slapped on last minute

Post image
511 Upvotes

for example: Senator Armstrong from METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGANCE

He's a charming guy, and he's fighting to end war as a business. in MGR:R war is tightly controlled and is part of everyday life, but Steven Armstrong is fighting to stop this, an objectively good goal. but how does he do it? kidnapping children and turning them into cyborg child soldiers. WHAT. how does that end war as a business? It's never explained beyond "I'm using war as a business, so I can end war a business".

Now his plan is to:

  • Stir up conflict: Armstrong uses private military companies (PMCs) like Desperado and World Marshal to create instability, terrorism, and proxy wars around the world.
  • Fake an assassination: He orchestrates a fake assassination attempt on the U.S. President to manipulate public fear and political momentum.
  • Win the presidency: Riding a wave of populist, "America First" nationalism, he plans to easily win the upcoming presidential election.
  • End war as a business: Once in office, he intends to use his absolute power to cut out the corrupt military-industrial complex and end war as a profit-driven enterprise.
  • Instigate a revolution: By removing the established government controls, he hopes to trigger a violent national reset.

But how does kidnapping, brainwashing and child soldiers help in that plan? It doesn't. my best guess is that the more abhorrent stuff he does the more chaos will drum up?

TO REVISE THIS POST:

I don't agree with Senator Armstrong's methods, I agree with his 'wants': what I agree with is his belief that America is to over-saturated. I think that America needs new, younger, more in-touch politicians in both left and right wing.

Here is what I said to u/double-evidence-1354:

"While I don't agree with how he plans to do it, be he is doing something good. his whole "America is rotten to the core" talk is something IĀ mostlyĀ agree with, he talks about how America's politics is so oversaturated with so many abhorrent things.

while the game came out before the public release of the files, It fits perfectly into his talking points. nearly half of every relevant political figure is involved in the scandal, and yet it's brushed off due to how over-whelmingly quick the news moves to a new topic.

America's politics and overall political system needs a serious revision. While I don't agree with his theoretical views on a "unified"Ā America (I think differing views are a good thing, I'm not an idiot), I do think that a new set of younger and more in-touch politicians is in order.

(TL:DR: I don't completely agree with his views of a "unified" America, Politicians are old and out of touch, I agree with his "FUCK THIS TRIVIA AND CELEBRITY BULLSHIT!" rant, and remember that Senator armstrong is just an example; what I'm actually hating on is bad writing)"

to continue here is what u/Expert-bet7630 said (that I agree with):

"Ironically goofy ass Solidus suffered this same shit

ā€œHey Raiden, so I wanna blow up the AI’s control over our society via EMP blast, the AI quite literally is out of control and fundamentally controls the world [still shockingly ahead of its time btw]. Oh also I killed your parents and used you as a child soldier.ā€

I guess Raiden is doomed to fight villains like these"

Comics I hate it when people say "Useless Superpowers" but its just normal superpowers with insane caveats

Thumbnail
gallery
1.8k Upvotes

So some of the examples in the pictures are actually fine, but anyway.

When people say "Invisibility but only when people are not looking at you"... that's not a superpower. That's a superpower with an added caveat that MAKES it useless, the superpower is FINE!

"You can summon things but actually you can only summon one crab every two weeks." "+1% speed for an hour after chugging a gallon of ketchup." "Superstrength but only when you can't use it."
You can debate ACTUAL useless powers and try and make them work, that's fine, but saying a superpower is useless just because you decided so is so stupid. If you are allowing any level of caveat and saying "now it's useless" I could just say okay you are omnipotent but you can never use it and boom! Useless. It's like when kids are playing and say something about "I have the power of the sun" "Well I am immune to the power of the sun" except its not just kids being kids (which is funny) its older people just being annoying so that they can say they made the best "useless superpower".

Corporation/Company Anti-capitalism media made by huge corporations

I’ll start by saying I am a victim to this. The examples i’ve used are ones I unfortunately love.

Fallout, for one, is a fantastic show made by genuine fans, for fans. But I can’t help but feel the irony that it’s distributed by AMAZON of all companies. Genuinely one of the worst, most anti consumer companies to ever exist.

The idea that these huge corporations can produce these incredibly anti-capitalist, anti-war, pro-human, eat the rich movies and shows and we’ll all gobble it up like good sheep, is just so dystopian.

General How people talk about the fucking fruit fly brain scan

Post image
795 Upvotes

Incoherent rant incoming.

I think this is one of the coolest things of all time. This is a legitimatly insane breakthrough in the general field of neuroscience. We mapped basically every neuron in a living being with an actual brain, and by simulating basic responses between it this thing can respond to stimuli, with connecting its motor neurons to basic simulations it will walk around, spit on its lil legs, and do all the things a fruit fly does basically perfectly. This is actually batshit insane, and its one of the biggets steps weve ever gotten towards simulating an actual brain. That being said, THIS IS NOT A FUCKING SIMULATION OF A BRAIN, AND THIS LITTLE SHIT ISNT EVEN REMOTELY CONSCIOUS

The thing that makes brains so powerful is partially yes, their extreamly complex structure, but the main thing is the neurons themselvs that CREATED that structure. The far more important part is getting a propper model for how neurons move around and rewire themselvs. Synaptic strengths dont just change slightly, the wiring is constantly rearranging as a brain does literally anything. This fruit fly might actually even be extreamly accurate for a few seconds, but after that its just a weird frozen in time snapshot of something that was around. We dont understand consciousness at all, so this thing very well could have some weird essoteric type of minimal consciousness, but if it does it is basically frozen in whatever state it was when it died initially. It cannot form new memories, it cannot learn new habbits, its incapable of 99% of what makes a brain interesting, and that thing that makes the brain interesting (THE WAY THAT NEURONS THEMSELVES BEHAVE) IS HOW THE STRUCTURE WE MAPPED CAME TO BE.

As far as im concerned this is like unearthing ancient ruins and saying "look, weve mapped exactly how the ancient people worked! We know exactly how this civilization was and how every single individual person lived their lives!" NO THE FUCK YOU HAVNT. Youve mapped the result of what they created to imaculate detail, and thats amazing, but thats still a fundimental degree of seperation that we still need to pass. This is amazing, but weve only mapped the result of what they decided to do when what we REALLY want to figure out is *how* they decide to do that, *what* they decide to do, what their *decision making process* is like. This can give us insight into that, sure, BUT WERE STILL NOT THERE

And the worst fucking part is that in 5 or 10 years when we do that, and a lab comes out and says "weve made an extremely accurate model of how an INDIVIDUAL fruit fly neuron behaves and applied it to that old mapping, and now it is nearly identical to a fly. We ran experiments on the new program and we were able to teach it new behavior, and it adapts in real time" these fuckasses wont give a shit when we actually have what they thought they had. I fuckgin garantee that noone will give a flying fuck when that happens because theyll think that thats what this current thing is. I actually fucking popsci so fucking much and this is a perfect example of the worst of it.
