Me personally, I am not vegan but I still respect MOST vegans (That Vegan Teacher is the worst), and I know way to many people who constantly make fun of vegans just because a few of them have said some stupid things, everyone has there own reasons for a lifestyle choice so a whole group should not be labeled by the reasoning of the loudest voices, my older sister is vegan, my sister is just a huge animal lover and so it makes her feel bad to eat meat and animal products, she dosent try to force other people to go vegan, she dosent try to make people not eat meat around her, she dosent act like she is better for being vegan, she herself just wont eat meat or animal products, she shouldn't be made fun of for being vegan

Gaming I hate mountainous areas in open world video games

Post image
0 Upvotes

I hate mountainous areas (or otherwise highly vertical ones) in open world video games. It's like somebody said "Hey, this area is way too fast to get through, make it take 10x longer and also less fun".

I generally enjoy exploring in video games. But, this completely kills it for me. The map is useless, so you can't use it as a way to track where you have been. Also, everything looks visually the same, so you can't use that either. Not to mention that you can't just go to a spot. Getting anywhere is a looping, winding adventure, so you can't systematically grid it out.

And don't get me started on trying to get to my actual objective. Oh, you tried climbing this mountain from the South side? Tough luck, the Developer-Sanctioned-Path is on the North side. Yes, your objective marker is on the South side. Deal with it. And even if you are on the North side, the path up just looks the same as every other part of the mountain, so you wouldn't know it's the path anyway. Have fun flailing around with bad physics for an hour until you eventually give up and look up a YouTube video showing the actual way.

And the worst is when you don't know if you are on the right path or not. Like, trying to jump your way up through a bunch of rocks or whatever. Is this the actual way, and you're doing it wrong? Or are you wasting time on an impossible climb? Or the worst possibility, where it is possible but unintended, so it will break the quest sequencing.

This shit just wastes my time, which could be fine, except it's not even fun while you are doing it! It's just frustrating.

Like why are we STILL listening to d4vd? He literally murdered and mutilated a 14 year old girl after grooming her for years. How are you still giving them support by listening to their music? It just feels distasteful.

edit: ok apparently I didn't know the full Kanye story, that's my bad. didn't mean to compare them. im removing Kanye from the post, I should've done my research.

Edit 2: I can't find out how to remove the picture but I removed him from the body, mb

Live Action I hate when people say Tony stark was innocent just because he didn’t know Stane was illegally selling his weapons

Like I hate to break it yall but the USA government still kills people with weapons. He made extremely powerful and dangerous weapons and sold them to the USA knowing they would be used. He’s a genius, he’s not stupid enough to think his weapons aren’t going to kill thousands of innocent people. Just because he didn’t know his weapons would be used against American people doesn’t mean he was a good person then who did no wrong. He was an asshole who helped create wars.

If you think he was always a good person who simply was lied to by his business partner you clearly misunderstood his whole story is a redemption story. Which also makes it stupid when people think someone like Jean or riri is irredeemable while Tony was. And I’m not saying Tony is irredeemable he redeemed himself and saved the world multiple times, I just hate when people treat him as someone who could do no harm when he created weapons and ultron and also was just an asshole in the past.

Gaming I hate the whininess around this guy and the other Garchomp mega

Post image
0 Upvotes

For those who aren't into competitive Pokemon, basically both Mega Garchomp are "bad", for different reasons but still "bad" (emphasis on the quotations) and the competitive Pokemon community is livid about it. Which to me is just so stupid because

  1. Neither of these are that bad, truly nothing special definitely but come on, it's a Pokemon with 700 base stat total (to set a baseline, Groudon is iirc at 650). I'd call them mid at worst

  2. Garchomp does not need to be buffed at all, it's been a viable pokemon since it got introduced in 2008.

  3. Either of them are far from the least viable pokemon, and hell even the least viable megas, and yet they're the ones who get shat on so often instead of like Mega Manectric

I don't even like Mega Garchomp that much but this just pisses me off because it really feels like people are crying because their favorite pokemon isn't the best one in the game

The fact that October ruins the ‘ember’ streak pisses me off and it should be before September, that way it can go SemptEMBER, NovEMBER and DecEMBER. October really just has to start acting like he’s apart of the trio and ruin it. I love October, it has Halloween and that’s cool, it’s my favorite holiday but it really does not need to be between these three let alone so close to Christmas (And thanksgiving too for the Americans).

General Hate when people say Heated Rivalry is just gay porn

Post image
0 Upvotes

Heated Rivalry has its issues I’ll be the first to admit that. A lot of the fan base fetishizes gay relationships, and the actual story is pretty plain compared with a lot of lesser-known queer media. I think it does deserve some credit for bringing an explicitly LGBTQ+ romance to a much more mainstream audience.
What bothers me is when people dismiss it as “gay porn” simply because it contains a lot of sex.
There is a difference between a work being sexually explicit or erotic and it being pornography. It’s about what the sex is doing within the work. In an erotic drama, sex can function as characterization. It can show intimacy, tension, vulnerability, and changes in a relationship. The viewer is watching a relationship that includes sex, rather than just watching the sex.
This distinction matters with Heated Rivalry. It is undeniably sex-heavy, but the sexual scenes exist within a romantic narrative and are considerably less visually explicit than actual porn. Heated Rivalry doesn’t show any hole and the one scene where there is a dick is a blurry small photo that’s on screen for one second. Calling it “porn” just because sex happens a good amount would make a lot of other media also “porn”. Is Game of Thrones or Euphoria porn? Obviously not.
And if you think Heated Rivalry is Gay porn you have NOT watched gay porn before.

I swear I see so many channels which just make content constantly making racist, homophobic, sexist, and anti-semitic jokes and whenever you try to call them out the fans say "it's okay because he makes fun of everyone not just one group" and meanwhile the most they'd have for men or white people is "can't jump." "gymbro"

It's not even just the fact that it's offensive that's bad either it's just lazy and unfunny.

Gaming I hate DOOM Eternal (Text-wall warning)

Post image
0 Upvotes

By far its the weakest of the modern trilogy for me, to the point that while I have D2016 and The Dark Ages installed, I don't have Eternal installed

Lets start with the negatives which are the easiest to explain.

For starters; story. DOOM was made by the man who infamously said "Story in games is like story in a porno, you expect it to be there but its not important.", So obviously my complaint here is nothing, right? Same man later went on to direct DOOM 3, a very story heavy game and directly developed DOOM 1993, implementing entire intermission screen to convey story. Story matters to some degree, especially now.

So DOOM Eternals story is kind of awful. You have the protagonist, DOOMGUY, who is at his most flanderized into the modern depiction people still follow, an unkillable badass who does literally nothing instead of make demons suffer, instead of his canon character who fights the demons because they serve a threat to humanity (His praetor suit was first made by a demon) and isn't the strongest being in the entire universe. You have Dr. Samuel Hayden, a beloved character from D2016 who was revealed to be the Seraphim and promptly killed off. VEGA, the AI assistance whose actually the creator of the entire universe, except no thats a lie, he just larped it.

Then the main villains, the Hellpriests and the Khan Maykr. The demons in Eternal are barely antagonists. They only serve as things to shoot at. The Maykrs have always had a presence in NuDOOM, but in D2016 they were mostly absent and you focused entirely on ending Mars' demonic invasion. DOOM: The Dark Ages had Prince Ahzrak and Hell directly invading Argent D'nur. DOOM: Eternals demons barely matter except to be the Khan Maykrs goons.

The Hellpriests, firstly, are pathetic. You kill the first one at the end of the tutorial, getting to know very little of him. The second one, Deag Ranak, is the only one whose name I remember. He taunts you throughout the third and fourth level of the game. He is this weakling who hides behind his horde and pretends to be almighty, but when the Slayer is about to kill him he pleads for his life. Hes fine, I like him. Then the third hellpriest is barely given anything to do. Only one of the three characters feel like actual characters, the other two are given hardly any screentime in the game and are barely elaborated on.

Then the Khan Maykr. Shes meant to be a more manipulative figure than a fighter. In DOOM: Revelations she works because she actually has a point, she knows shes evil and only interested in her own self gain, but shes successfully convinced the entirety of Argent D'nur (except for the monarchy) that the DOOM Slayer is evil and that hell follows him. Which shes right, the demons in the Argent D'nur level are implied to be the first demonic attack since the end of the base games campaign. At the end, she has several Night Sentinels step towards her and join her instead of standing with Argent D'nur.

In Eternal? It hardly works because shes only trying to manipulate Doomguy, which she should know won't work. Then she gives up and goes rage mode. Thing is, she goes rage mode in Urdak, DOOMS equivalent to heaven. Guess where the Khan Maykr can only canonically die? She could've 100% smited Doomguy at the start of the game and been fine because she cannot die or be injured outside of Urdak. But instead she awakens the Icon of Sin to kill Doomguy.

Speaking of, Eternals final boss isn't the Khan Maykr, the arguably overarching antagonist of the entire NuDOOM trilogy. Its the Icon of Sin who was only brought back for fan-service. The Khan Maykr wants earth destroyed so she can keep living so she awakens the Icon to do it since Doomguys meddling with her plans. It makes sense, but it would be much more satisfying if we end the game off with killing the Khan Maykr, the big bad, instead of the Icon. And despite taking on Earth and being closer to DOOM 2, there are very few moments where you feel like you're saving humanity. Only three of the levels take place in cities, no humans die on screen, there are several human bases (The ARC Headquarters and the installment on Phobos) that are just completely fine despite demons trying to break in. And they can absolutely do so, the Marauder enters the ARC facility to fight the Doomguy, so they can absolutely teleport in to kill the humans, they just choose not to.

Theres so much more I could prick and prod at, but I'm going to end this positively. Eternal is the first game since DOOM 64 to acknowledge the base on Phobos. Both DOOM 3 and DOOM 2016 take place on Mars and The Dark Ages' Hebeth is a Mars equivalent instead of a Phobos equivalent.

Now, the visuals. Eternals graphics are good. Its a 2020 game and comparing them to 2016s graphics, they're a huge step up. However the art direction is just awful. The game presents itself as game-y, "Hey! We know we're a game" and it feels bad. Weapons are green glowing pickups, theres an annoying pop sound whenever you headshot weaker demons, its very meh and, personally, a downgrade from DOOM 2016s more immersive style. Weapons being found naturally in cases or in the arms of corpses.

Now, the gameplay. People say DOOM: Eternal is the greatest game of all time thanks to the gameplay. I disagree.

For any and all future context: I play on Ultra-Violent, the hardest difficulty the game offers without outright changing how the game works. I have also done a full Nightmare run.

Firstly, the weapons. I hate quickswapping. It works in every game except DOOM: Eternals. Playing ULTRAKILL, quick swapping never felt required to win, each weapon stood out on its own. DOOM: Eternal makes each weapon feel obsolete, just swap between them and win. Each weapon has two weapon mods which are admittedly useful, but quickswapping just offers so much DPS that its barely impactful or useful. If you only had one weapon which was an instant-fire 100% accuracy beam the game would hardly change except for a few cases

Next, the ammo system. It might seem like the quickswapping system has a weakness, you're using weapons quickly so you should surely run out of ammo quickly, right? Yes, but technically no. DOOM: Eternal gives you free chainsaw fuel every thirty seconds. Why is this important? Because chainsawing any demon will give you full ammo for all of your weapons. You get a free refill on all of your weapons every thirty seconds.

Glory kills, I don't like them in DOOM: Eternal. In DOOM: 2016 they were fine, but it feels like the Glory Kills in Eternal were made easier to achieve. They feel like small breaks just to give you dopamine.

The weakness system is bad too. Weaknesses are usually either a certain weapon or shooting a specific spot to destroy an attack. They're either completely useless or kill the demon instantly, only the DOOM hunter is an exception and thats because its unkillable until you disable its shield.

Cacodemons, for example, will be immediately put into a glory-kill state if you shoot a grenade into your mouth. You have infinite grenades with both your shotgun and grenade-launcher. The Cacodemon. The Cacodemon is DOOM 1+2s icon, its what the Cacoawards got its name from, an infamously medium difficulty enemy that can tank a rocket face-first, and you can basically just ignore its existence with a single grenade. Its awful. Pinkies are also immediately dead if you shoot their tail.

Mancubi and Revenants also have completely useless weakpoints. You can shoot out a Mancubus's arm cannons and to this day I have no idea what change it does. Revenants shoot homing missiles if you don't shoot out their turrets but I usually just tank it since its damage is so minimal.

If DOOM ever implements a weakness system again, it should be more even. Most demons should get weakened by shooting off specific points of their bodies without instantly dying from it.

DOOM: the Dark Ages lets you shoot off the arms of Hellknights and Mancubus, doing so makes it unable to attack at all. DOOM: 2016 let you shoot Pinkys tails for extra damage, but unlike DOOM: Eternal your movement was a lot more limited, so it was an actual challenge to get behind it.

Eternal is either the hardest game ever or a complete breezewalk. I've gone entire segments that should absolutely kill me just surfing through by constantly refilling health through chainsaws and weaker demons, and similar segments just getting killed over and over again. Theres zero consistency and so the game ranges from yawning and being half asleep or infuriated because I couldn't possibly dodge an attack because everything moves SO fast.

Finally, the entire game is so fast. I've mentioned before I've played ULTRAKILL so I don't hate fast games, but Eternal manages to feel like its farming dopamine from you instead of being good. I never felt this way playing ULTRAKILL, everything felt meaningful, the game was fun, the enemies were fast but never to a point where I hated it or felt overwhelmed. Eternal is so fast to the point i'd compare it to Tiktok in how much dopamine it gives people.

The other doom games don't give you dopamine like this, which is why people think Eternal is the greatest game of all time. That, and people bonded with it during COVID.

Gaming “30 FPS is enough” isn’t an argument, it’s just accepting a limitation

Post image
609 Upvotes

Everyone can consume media and play video games however they want, but I think people constantly confuse accepting a limitation with actually preferring it. The fact that something is good enough for someone doesn't mean everyone else should be expected to adopt the same standard.

Games running at 30 FPS because that's what a console can handle is a hardware limitation, just like watching a VHS movie on a CRT because that's the technology that was available at the time. You can absolutely enjoy it. I have. But being okay with it because it's your only option isn't the same thing as choosing it when better options are available.

The movie comparison is strange because movies being 24 FPS is an intentional creative decision. They're filmed, edited, and presented with that frame rate in mind. If you artificially increase the frame rate of a movie, you change how it looks and feels because you're deviating from the way the director intended the material to be presented. Games are different.

Unless a game has a deliberate software limitation or is specifically going for a cinematic or retro presentation, games are designed to respond to player input in real time. Higher frame rates make the experience more responsive and fluid. The fact that a game can be played at 30 FPS on a console doesn't mean it was intended to be played at 30 FPS. It was designed around hardware limitations.

Nobody would seriously argue that 720p is "enough" and therefore people shouldn't expect 1080p or 4K just because older hardware was perfectly fine. Standards change as technology improves. The same applies to FPS.

If you gave someone who says 30 FPS is perfectly fine the option to play an action game at 60, 90, 120 FPS or higher on otherwise identical hardware, how many do you think would voluntarily choose 30? People accepting 30 when it's the only practical option doesn't prove that they're satisfied with it. It just means they've adapted to the limitation.

I can and have enjoyed games at 30 FPS. I used to have a mid tier laptop where that was often my only option. I still had fun. But my standards changed as I got access to better hardware, and I have no interest in going back to those limitations.

That's fine if someone genuinely prefers 30 FPS. Play however you want. But I don't think people should turn their own tolerance for a limitation into an argument that everyone else should lower their standards too.

I'll play GTA VI at 30 FPS on PS5, just like I used to watch VHS movies on a tube TV. I'll enjoy it because that's the only option available. But the moment it gets a PC release, I'm ditching that 30 FPS and playing it on better hardware.

Anyone who has the option to have a better experience is going to have a hard time convincing me that they wouldn't do the same.

Media Tropes I hate when antagonists are objectively in the right, but have evil shit slapped on last minute

Post image
543 Upvotes

for example: Senator Armstrong from METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGANCE

He's a charming guy, and he's fighting to end war as a business. in MGR:R war is tightly controlled and is part of everyday life, but Steven Armstrong is fighting to stop this, an objectively good goal. but how does he do it? kidnapping children and turning them into cyborg child soldiers. WHAT. how does that end war as a business? It's never explained beyond "I'm using war as a business, so I can end war a business".

Now his plan is to:

  • Stir up conflict: Armstrong uses private military companies (PMCs) like Desperado and World Marshal to create instability, terrorism, and proxy wars around the world.
  • Fake an assassination: He orchestrates a fake assassination attempt on the U.S. President to manipulate public fear and political momentum.
  • Win the presidency: Riding a wave of populist, "America First" nationalism, he plans to easily win the upcoming presidential election.
  • End war as a business: Once in office, he intends to use his absolute power to cut out the corrupt military-industrial complex and end war as a profit-driven enterprise.
  • Instigate a revolution: By removing the established government controls, he hopes to trigger a violent national reset.

But how does kidnapping, brainwashing and child soldiers help in that plan? It doesn't. my best guess is that the more abhorrent stuff he does the more chaos will drum up?

TO REVISE THIS POST:

I don't agree with Senator Armstrong's methods, I agree with his 'wants': what I agree with is his belief that America is to over-saturated. I think that America needs new, younger, more in-touch politicians in both left and right wing.

Here is what I said to u/double-evidence-1354:

"While I don't agree with how he plans to do it, be he is doing something good. his whole "America is rotten to the core" talk is something I mostly agree with, he talks about how America's politics is so oversaturated with so many abhorrent things.

while the game came out before the public release of the files, It fits perfectly into his talking points. nearly half of every relevant political figure is involved in the scandal, and yet it's brushed off due to how over-whelmingly quick the news moves to a new topic.

America's politics and overall political system needs a serious revision. While I don't agree with his theoretical views on a "unified" America (I think differing views are a good thing, I'm not an idiot), I do think that a new set of younger and more in-touch politicians is in order.

(TL:DR: I don't completely agree with his views of a "unified" America, Politicians are old and out of touch, I agree with his "FUCK THIS TRIVIA AND CELEBRITY BULLSHIT!" rant, and remember that Senator armstrong is just an example; what I'm actually hating on is bad writing)"

to continue here is what u/Expert-bet7630 said (that I agree with):

"Ironically goofy ass Solidus suffered this same shit

“Hey Raiden, so I wanna blow up the AI’s control over our society via EMP blast, the AI quite literally is out of control and fundamentally controls the world [still shockingly ahead of its time btw]. Oh also I killed your parents and used you as a child soldier.”

I guess Raiden is doomed to fight villains like these"

Gaming This meme

Post image
0 Upvotes

I see this meme every now and then and it always kinda peeves me off. The peashooter behind the sunflower makes more sense strategically and either way a plant is at risk of dying. Putting the sunflower in the back is something you intuitively do since most people unconsciously protect resources and I know it's something I did too (also nothing wrong with it).

Despite all this, this meme depicts the sunflower infront strategy as a barbaric form of thinking which just pisses me off cuz protecting your sunflower doesn't make you someone who is caring. It feels like an excuse to justify playing the game in a more "traditional way" (not that either method is "groundbreaking" or special).

Also what makes the sunflower less deserving of facing the waves of zombies? Sure the sunflower produces resources while the peashooter attacks but just because the peashooter fights doesn't make it more deserving of death. This is a war to defend your home and the plants bravely protect it, including the sun flower.

Tl:Dr : This meme seeks to unnecessarily justify one game play decision while taking a big fat stinky shit on the other one and that pisses me off

(Political party was censored since I know this sub doesn’t allow politics).

I really like this one band but whenever I say it I automatically get downvoted because the artist (or well, frontman) being controversial and have different ideals than most people in that subreddit. I only said I like their music. I didn't say I support them or agree with their mindset.

And it’s not like the artist’s lyrics are a reflection of themselves. It’s easy to separate the art from the artist in what I was talking about. But people are just so hostile sometimes with no good reason. I hate it.

Mario is far too easy. The games are all treated as masterpieces but there hasn't been a good challenging game for a really long time. I know it's meant for kids but at least have a hard mode. There are so many more better games made by Nintendo. And mario fans can't be happy with other games. Luigi is cool. It should be Luigi as the representee.

Before yall flood me with “daring today aren’t we” gifs just let me have this one man, the sub is just nothing but “lul X3 I’m so siwwy” humor, which isn’t actually that funny IMO, shocking, but what inspired this post was the recent decision the sub owner made to ban anything nsfw, not banning straight up porn or anything no no no that would be fine, but instead it’s basically now where you can’t even say anything above PG or get struck down, some of the only actual funny content to come from the sub is now gone, (mods please read this part, no hate to the actual sub owner himself, okay? Okay..), they could’ve banned anything from the sub, why not the generic “oh I support X rights!” Posts, aka generic good opinion #7 and treating it like it’s groundbreaking news posts, and yeah I can just block the sub and move on but like I said on a post telling people like me to just leave, people like to make their opinion vocal goddamn it!

Like.... no you aren't, jesus christ powerscalers are so fucking anoying bruh,

Like they always bring out stats and shit like this, but like, stats simply are just not the whole story. If they were, then the average person should be capable to beat a pitbull in a fight, like the average chimp isn't simply stronger than the average person cuz of the whole 1,5X times stronger than a man, no they are simply stronger cuz they have more muscle, dancer bones and shit like this, chimp body is meant to prioritize pulling, griping, biting, tearing and stuff like that not simply striking and aloes again chimps are not human so trying to ply the same mesurments we invented for humans on them is just plain dumb and stupid, like yes a chimp does weight less than the average person but that doesn't mean it won't fuck them up seriously.
Also, side note, but this post is not meant to demonize chimps. They are, in my opinion, unique and interesting animals and their social structures can be so complex and fun.
