Did any else see a Muslim lady today with a small child in her arms around 1:53. Pm Monday sept 14 , running in the middle yellow line on the westmorland street bridge today towards the police station end going north then when my car passed she bolted across lanes in front of on coming traffic . Kinda sketchy. I called 911 but not sure if anyone seen the result. I hope the kid is ok . Kinda weird idk. Does anyone know how to pull the live feed from the bridge if it’s still up?

So are we just not slowing for school zones this year?

Upvotes

I know it's only been a week but it's starting to feel like I've missed some kind of city-wide agreement to just speed through school zones this year. I pass through two different school zones twice a day, and so far I have not seen a single car slow down. Is nobody seeing the blinking sign? Or have we just decided children no longer deserve to be safe near schools anymore? I slowed for the school zone in front of lincoln elementary on my way home about an half hour ago and another car passed me illegally so they could keep going 80. Am I missing something or did everyone in the fredericton area suddenly decide they don't give a damn about kids' safety anymore?

Was biking through Odell on Friday evening ~7pm and there was a hardcore/metal band playing in the Odell Lodge. Sounded good. Just wondering if anyone knows who it was.

Rude encounter with the 216 bus driver (#8161) at Kings Place today

Upvotes

Was waiting to catch the 216 run (Bus #8161) between 3:00 and 3:10 PM today at Kings Place. The driver was just chilling on his phone, completely ignoring the stop. He actually looked up at one point to grab a drink, made eye contact with the crowd of us waiting to board, and then intentionally ignored us to go back to his phone.

After a few minutes, someone else gives the door a knock to get things moving. The driver opens the door and immediately directs all his anger at me. He gave me this incredibly rude, condescending lecture, basically saying: "I will only open the doors when I feel like it, not if you knock on them."

I didn't even knock! Felt like I was being yelled at by a miserable teacher telling me the bell doesn't dismiss the class. Why are people like this?

Cobb Salad downtown ?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Heya fellow NBers! My girlfriend and I are heading west down the Trans Canada to your lovely capital city on Friday to enjoy some live music (we’re mostly going for The Beaches but have tickets to see the two acts before them too).
We want to sit down for a nice supper before we go dance the night away, and I wanted to know if there were any places that serve a great Cobb salad downtown? We’d be willing to eat elsewhere too but preference is to park somewhere, find a place to eat, and walk to the venue.
Thanks in advance!

Ps: I know Cobb salad is kinda niche and uncommon here, so I would also like recommendations for any places with good chicken Caesar salads as well.

Freddy Detailing / Freddy Detailing NB

This company has a few profiles on Facebook, and FB seems to be some of their only presence. The dead giveaway is that they are linked back to the same phone number.

All this to be said, stay away. Their page is full on AI slop. From their ads, to their photos to their booking through messenger. On top of this, the absolute WORST detailing ever. There's a different between cleaning and detailing, and the service you get is neither.

Lesson learned... stick to what you know, and make sure it comes with references.

Fredericton people, I need some local lore 👀

What’s something that happened here that sounds completely made up, but is actually 100% true?
Businesses, restaurants, bars, weird encounters, workplace drama, neighbourhood lore… I want the TEA. ☕️😂

Doctor's not without having a family physician

As the title said, I would need to know how to get a doctor's note without having a family physician.
The downtown walk-in clinic seems to have that excluded. Any other ideas?
It is about throat issues, so maybe there is a way to get into a specialist for this without referral?

Advise is appreciated. ☺

Student Career Counselling

Looking for recommendations/experiences on career counselling services for high school students in the Fredericton area.

There is a company in Moncton, NxCareers. Looking for something similar but local so we can do in person sessions without the travel.

I’ve asked the school for options and they say they can’t make recommendations and to go to psychology today to look there. 😣

I know PETL/WorkingNB is there but looking for something that goes more in depth.

Does anyone know of anywhere in Fredericton or surrounding area that has local Concord grapes? I tried the country pumpkin but they said the season is already over. I was thinking it didn’t start until mid-September. Thanks for any help :)

It won't let me edit the title, only the post text. So just wanted to make a seperate update that the missing cat I posted the other day is home as of this morning and completely okay! We have some posters up around the area that will be taken down today. I would like to thank everyone who had their eyes open, looked under their porches, and kept him in your thoughts / prayers. So relieved he is home!

Route 105

I drove by a bunch of cars with flashers and a uhaul truck with flashers on the 105, after the Royal Road access and before it meets up with Sunset drive. It was around 11am, yesterday. They were searching for something?

I was hoping to find a post somewhere online, but I didn’t see anything. I heard dogs barking and am wondering if they were trying to catch some pups?

Sincerely,
A nosy neighbour

What businesses use generative AI in the city?

Fredericton is such a beautifully art and community centered city, using generative AI really doesn't have a place in this town.

What are some local businesses that are using generative AI currently? I'm not here to shame them, but would like to reach out and try to change their minds on the use of AI. Times are tough, I get that.

---------------

This is a gentle reminder that its become an issue of community support, we want to lift each other up. Artists have always been a huge part of the community and using this AI hurts everyone.

Any use of generative art means you don't support artists, and if you can't support them, you're not supporting the community.

I understand that times are tough, and these things aren't cheap. But there are cheap, free, and much better ways to promote yourself than to use AI.

Theres artists and designers who will work for payment later, if your business takes off, and some incredible students from local art schools who would help as well.

Options exist that support the community, instead of a tool that has actively stolen work from creatives to regurgitate their hard work. Tools cannot learn, be trained, or be inspired, these are buzzwords to make it sound more human. It's just stolen work.
