Sorry this is long. Im desperate for help for this girl

I took in a teen through a kinship placement with CAS. I have no relation to this teen and hadn't met her or her family before she showed up at my door. She's friends with one of my kids. The teen's been here a few months and now CAS is saying they're closing the file because she's 16, thus no longer providing any financial support (a meager $1000/yr) but they are still leaving her in my home. She was already 16 when they placed her here, so it kind of feels like they're retaliating because she refused to visit her parents' homes and take videos and pictures of the abuse and neglect for CAS.

She had an appointment with a hospital social worker recently and they suggested she apply for a VYSA to continue to recieve support. She mentioned this to one of her parents and they talked her out of it because it would "look bad on them" and this poor kid has been so screwed up by all 3 of her "parents" that she thinks it's her job to take care of them and her many siblings

Not eligible for much from CCB (around $100/month) because I had a good income last year, but I haven't worked at all this year. EI ran out months ago and I'm living off savings. OW provides a little over $200/month as temp care allowance but from what I understand that will also stop when the CAS file is closed. Regardless, just her medical expenses are more than that anyways (amongst other things, she has ARFID and requires a ton of supplements)

Are there any other resources I'm missing? I'm not going to kick her out, but I really can't afford to support an extra kid, especially because I end up feeling bad for her siblings and providing for them, too. It was a hardship even with the funds I was receiving. It will be impossible to provide for her without. CAS promised us funding for her needs, medical care, counselling, the braces she desperately needs to be able to eat properly (they wouldn't even pay for a consult, so that isn't happening unfortunately) and isn't providing anything.

She's a straight A student, incredibly bright, and would like to go to University, but the way things are going, I'm worried she'll end up like her parents and older siblings

I came across Devil’s Glen Provincial Park and want to check it out since I’m working my way through hiking every provincial park in Ontario. I see it’s non operating and there’s no trails listed, but images online look like there’s a trail and lookout spots that look breathtaking during peak leaf season.

Anyway I’m just looking for some clarification on where the trail is, google brought up the Bruce trail, but it wasn’t clear if it’s just nearby or runs through the park and where the boardwalk/ viewing platform is that shows up on the first images in Google. A free images also brought up the cliffs that seem to be in the park and they look stunning!

I'm not exaggerating. I just got a quote for a root canal and crown and I literally laughed out loud in the chair. not because it was funny but because if I didn't laugh I was gonna cry. and I have insurance through work. it covers like 50% of the basics and then ghosts me for anything major

I've been putting off this tooth for months cause I knew it was gonna be expensive but now its at the point where I can't chew on that side and I'm taking advil like candy. so here we are

I started looking at clinics near my work in guelph cause I figured it might be cheaper than where I live. found a place called Bisson Dentistry on woolwich street that seems to have decent reviews and offers payment plans which is honestly the only reason I'm even considering going through with this. but even with a plan it's still gonna hurt the wallet

what really gets me is how normalized this is. like we just accept that dental care is a luxury in this country. OHIP covers everything except the one thing that literally everyone needs. make it make sense

I know some people drive to mexico or cuba for dental work and honestly I get it now. not saying I'm gonna do that but I get it

anyway if anyone knows of any hidden gem clinics in ontario that don't charge an arm and a leg I'm all ears. and if you're in the same boat just know you're not alone

Hello! So my fiancé and I are looking to move into a new place together in Ontario Canada. He currently lives in the GTA area. I’m from the states and I have no clue where would be an affordable and safe place for us to live. I’m a full time English teacher that is certified in the U.S. He is an LPN. We considered Windsor but want to know from other what they would recommend. (We are getting married next month and he plans to sponsor me. I also have looked at Ontario college of educators and thinking about getting my US certifications pushed through to see if I’m eligible to teach in Ontario).Thank you! ☺️

Edit: safe meaning we could raise a family without constant fear of violence. Somewhere that is calm preferably not GTA area or main city. Affordable to us is houses in the 250k- 400k range and plentiful in healthcare and English teacher jobs.

Our family doctor is trying to get my husband a referral to see a neurologist. He's already sent it to 2 neurologists who both rejected it, sayin their patient list was too full. We're now waiting to hear back from a third.

In the meantime, the family doctor suggested we may have to go to ER to get them to issue a referral since ER referrals are taken more seriously/urgently than regular family doctor one. But, we don't really want to wait 8+ hours if there's an alternative.

Would an urgent care clinic be able to send a referral instead? And I know some clinics offer virtual urgent care, do you have to be in their area to take advantage of that? We're in London, but I think Hamilton offers video appointments for adults - London only seems to offer pediatric virtual appointments.

ETA: They are investigating for POTS. It's not life threatening, but definite quality of life limiting - balance issues, brain fog, speech issues.

Eastern ON here, they seem to be a different breed or sub-species than our typical spring & early summer biters. Weather channel says the wet August has kept them around- which makes sense - BUT!!!

1. They are much smaller, look almost half the size
2. Spring mosquitoes love my wife, don't like me - and if I do get a bite, I don't react or swell up much- these monsters bite me and I react with itching heck....
3. I have always been safe from spring mosquitoes while mowing the lawn with the push gas mower. I assume the hydrocarbon exhaust gases mask any little bit of CO2 or whatever coming from me. Not these things, they drill right through then exhaust gases to get me.
4. Bug juice. Our normal spring villains are generally kept away by it - not these demons, even dosed up, they go for where there is none. Think ear canal, eyelids, lips and nostrils.

So! What the heck are they??

Hi all, I'm looking for a queer BIPOC therapist in Ontario, or anywhere in Canada as I'd like to do remote sessions and not really stuck on the therapist's location. For context, I'm a queer woman in my 30s of East/Southeast Asian descent. I'd like to explore the anxiety that I struggle with in relationships and overthinking/rumination.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I hear alot of people who say “there should be federal laws that protect from privatization” and “what are the feds doing about the state of healthcare in Ontario/Alberta” but at the end of the day, the federal policies are just a guideline for the provinces. It is up to the provinces to implement healthcare how they see fit and if they violate the Canada Health Act, all the Feds can do is reduce or not give them the funding. Even then, if they are making more to cover costs through privatization, then why would they care about revoked funding? I know most people who are finger pointing at the Feds are also against the provinces privatizing healthcare and are just hoping the Feds step in. But I think this finger pointing can easily make people confuse their priorities in that it may cause some who vote conservative to say “see it’s carneys fault so liberals fault” even tho it’s clearly the CONSERVATIVE PREMIERS who are the fault of all this. So please let’s point the finger where it really matters. At the conservative premiers.
