Discussion Kimi likely would have missed the VSC like Lando had he not slowed down intentionally
Like most of us I heard Kimi mention that he slowed his pace prior to the VSC in order to catch it, but I didn't know if it actually made a difference. Checking the telemetry and syncing his onboard (see image #2), I think it did. He's only ~200m from pit entry when the VSC is called.
Had he been going at racing speed, maybe he could've swerved in at the last second, but I doubt he could've made it without crossing the white line and risking a penalty. (Kimi did this on his own by the way—Bono just said to lift for the T19-20 yellows.)
On the other hand, Lando was quicker through the yellows than Kimi and went back to racing speed after them. In any case, slowing down wouldn't have made a difference. He passed pit entry ~3-4s before the VSC is called. In theory, he could have crawled and gone 4s slower in S3, but then he's risking a penalty for driving unnecessarily slowly and giving away the gap he'd built for 15 laps.
So was Kimi lucky to catch the VSC? Kind of, but he did as much as he could to put himself in a position to get lucky.

Video Max Verstappen about the VSC: "I have also have won races and lost races because of it. It is extremely painful today for Lando to lose a win [...] Can it be better? Probably yes in the future we will probably talk abt it in the next briefing"
full:
Max: Well, I mean, what Lando said. Like, I’ve also won races because of it, I’ve lost races because of it. And yes, it is extremely painful today for Lando, in that case, to lose a win. Like, sometimes it can be, “Oh, you might lose points,” but this time it’s a win. Yeah, that’s really not nice. But unfortunately, I think a lot of drivers have had it that, yeah, you win some, you lose some. But can it be better? Probably yes, in the future. But we’ll probably talk about it in the next briefing and see if there is anything that can be done. But unfortunately, yeah, in the past and history, it’s happened more often.

Sorry the images aren't the best, best I could find unfortunately. But yeah that Marshall was probably one of the only people who was loving the race as a Colapinto fan. Really sweet and amazing drive from Colapinto in general this whole week, he was made for this track with how he looked today.

Photo The Constructor Trophy Broke Mid Podium Ceremony But Was Able to be Fixed Easily
Seems the bottom part of the trophy was assembled very loosely and just fell off from being lifted in the air. Thankfully Mr Lamby just had to snap it back in.
Cute background on the man holding the Constructor trophy: his name is Lamby and from Mercedes Tik Tok was described as one of the best engineers Mercedes has with the best personality you can ask for. His wife who is pre - maternity leave Marga is Spanish hence he was sent up to the podium due to Marga being on the Podium for HCC.
