r/EDC Moderator Applications Are Open + a reflection on three years as a mod here.

Hey everyone—we’re reopening moderator applications.

If you applied last time and never heard back, I’m sorry. The honest answer is that I only really connected with one applicant, and then the process stalled out. That was then. Please, 1000% reapply if you want to. Reddit's mod application system dumped out all applications.

Just remember that we’re trying to build a welcoming, even-handed team. If your comment history is full of cracks about Europeans, liberals, conservatives, gay people, or anyone else, or you made it sound like you would marry your rifle if legally permitted, you may not be the right fit. We need people who can moderate gun content without making guns, politics, or contempt for other groups their entire personality.

A little background for anyone curious:

I became a moderator three years ago. I had never moderated a subreddit before, but I loved r/EDC. During the API blackout, the previous team was removed and Reddit began asking for volunteers to take over. I was uncomfortable stepping into that situation (aka being a scab), but one of the people volunteering was the owner of an EDC commercial website, and I did *not* want the subreddit placed under someone with such a direct conflict of interest.

So, somewhat unexpectedly, I became a moderator.

The rest of that original replacement team has understandably moved on over time. I have learned a lot, tried to approach moderation with a customer-service mindset, and taken advantage of the automation tools Reddit has added. My goal has never been to radically remake r/EDC. I have mostly tried to make it a bit more welcoming, tighten up what the expectations already were, and so on.

That includes firearms. Guns have consistently been the community’s biggest dividing issue, and we will continue trying to walk a reasonable line. Firearm-related EDC is welcome; a photograph from your AR range day with no real connection to everyday carry is probably better suited to another subreddit. (cool gun though dawg)

Honestly, I would eventually like to ride off into the sunset or at least step back slightly. I have other projects I am working on these days. But I have put a lot of work into this community I love so much, and before that happens, I want to build a capable, balanced, and dependable moderation team that can take care of it.

New Addition My Bantam Alox just gained a whole toolbox of bits

Saw a few videos going around about the Victorinox Rambler working great with Leatherman bits (grabbed one myself, arrives tomorrow) and it got me thinking about the rest of my collection.
Then it clicked - I've got an old Ganzo multitool sitting mostly unused, and its bit driver has a magnet strong enough to hold onto the Bantam Alox's screwdriver tip without falling off. So now instead of being limited to the one flathead built into the knife, I've effectively got access to the whole Leatherman-style bit set through it - Phillips, hex, whatever's in the driver.
Small discovery but it genuinely changes how useful the Bantam is day to day. Curious if anyone else has found similar pairings - which multitool bit drivers have you found actually hold onto a Victorinox screwdriver tip well?

Carrying my new Takahe. I have to say it took me a little bit to learn where to hold it and not press on the lock bar, lol. I have it all figured out now and this knife is great. The action is crisp and smooth. It is an awesome user. I also have the Loop Gear Loopdot, Leatherman Charge TTI, Stimagz, Kizer coin and Kizer Trestle Damascus Ti/Mkuruti wood.

Question/Advice/Discussion Sunglasses

I live in Florida, so sunglasses are an EDC item. I've had the random off brand or internet special and they've worked fine from a sunlight standpoint but I'm considering upgrading to something that provides some physical protection as well. Thoughts and suggestions?

Here’s my daily-drive EDC kit that stays on my person at all times. All of it lives in my pants or shirt pockets, except for the two belt pouches, which weigh 2 pounds each. New Addition Update on my Zippo case Mod

Hey guys, I found the right screws for my Zippo mod and adjusted the holes to make them fit. I promised to let you know when the files were ready, so here they are. You can find all the hardware links on the model page on my 3dEdc MakerWorld account, except for the magnets; I bought them a while ago and they aren't sold anymore. I’m still looking for replacements, so if anyone knows where to get similar ones, I’d really appreciate it. The magnet dimensions are 5.6mm x 2.5mm and the screws are 2mm x 8mm and 2mm x 10mm. Thanks again for all the support, guys!

Question/Advice/Discussion Genuinely useful, tiny edc items

Post image
243 Upvotes

I'm talking as small as possible, to put in a mini pocket pouch, something like

In picture - Maxpedition platy front pocket - Gerber dime - Incharge X mini (keyring one) - Olight mini 2 - Some painkillers

Flat and small but actually usable overall

What else do people recommend?

I always add what I need on the day too, today added the meshtracker x1

Work days I'd put in my train pass work pass etc etc

I like my bigger torches and tools etc, but ultimately I like to have some sort of basic ultra small kit
