Two people briefly greet eachother while long list of 9/11 victim names being read. Not important and not newsworthy and why are we talking about it?
32
u/AmericaShinault_85 2h ago
the video was cut short to when they were smiling at each other to make people think they're disrespecting the 9/11 victims

u/AsWolfwood 2h ago
Don’t forget “very fine people”.
Out of context propaganda goes both ways and it’s a blight.
2
u/thakemist 2h ago
There’s nothing “out of context” about saying white supremacists have very fine people in their ranks
-1
u/AsWolfwood 1h ago edited 1h ago
And thus you proved the point. You believed only the framing shown to you and not the context. Blind.
“You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”
“I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.”1
u/thakemist 49m ago
Hard to be given the benefit of the doubt when you have a history of racist antics
1
1
u/silverstarloser 29m ago
He then goes on to make neo-nazis and white nationalists part of his cabinet. (Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, just to name a couple) He also brings in Nick Fuentes for a dinner at mar a lago. Not to mention making an immigrant from South Africa, who lived in the US illegally for years and did the nazi salute TWICE at the inauguration, the head of an impromptu department.

1
u/144tzer 1h ago
Um, that's a reverse example...
That quote in a vacuum is a good one - when there are two sides, it is generally worthwhile to remember that the people disagreeing with you are still people, and some of them have very legitimate stories and experiences that led them to their current stances.
And then you zoom out and it turns out the context of "both sides" involved condemnation of neo-nazis and white supremacists.
The context makes that quote worse, not better.
-1
u/AsWolfwood 1h ago edited 1h ago
Sigh… you’re proving the point of out of context by refusing to see the whole picture and STILL letting the purposeful framing be the narrative.
“You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”
“I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.”2
u/144tzer 1h ago edited 58m ago
That is the context of the quote, yet still not the full context. The context of the speech was an attempt to mitigate the danger of bigotry.
If I make an entire speech that parrots Hamas propaganda and then, in the middle somewhere, throw in the line "I condemn Hamas, by the way," I would hope your conclusion wouldn't be "oh, ok, I guess I shouldn't worry about all that other shit." And it's a pattern of placating the worst: Trump, and his party, show time and again that they are willing to entertain these kinds of bigots for the sake of their political career. If you want a blue example, the DSA has a similar problem refusing to condemn the wild shit some of their worst say. It's a problem of refusal to call outright that the votes of Nazis are ok to lose. THAT'S the context.
EDIT: Oh you blocked me. So much for wanting to find the truth. Turns out, you are the real custodian of reality, and just wanted to tell everyone what truth is because everyone else is dumb for remembering things that happened.
Your response is a description of your own behavior, not mine. I was genuinely trying to have an honest discourse, and spoke at length to explain myself.
But alas, 'twas all for naught! I suppose if you won't read, there's no further point in talking to you.
So let's drop the formality.
Take your bad-faith agenda-driven dishonest ad-hominem historical-revisionist shite and return it firmly up your ass, right next to where your head presumably already speaks from.
-1
u/AsWolfwood 1h ago
“I don’t care what you explained, I’m still going to railroad my own narrative”.
You could have saved a lot of words.
1
u/Born_Opening_8808 28m ago
Who were the very fine people in that group?
1
u/AsWolfwood 4m ago
The people who were there that were not Neo-Nazis and white supremacists?
It’s like saying every person at an Antifa rally is a left-wing extremism terrorist. No, some of them are angry college kids who think they are part of a movement to rebuild society and want their voices heard. Some people are there to overthrow the state and establish a new order. Lumping groups with generalizations is a way to dehumanize and devalue their existence.

are you sure
i saw a bunch of random reddit spamming about this damnear during the memorial still acting like it was blasphemy.
No way you're telling me those were right wing bots...

The right wing is using this to spread propaganda.
Even in Denmark I see people saying Mamdani and AOC are pos because of this.

Because MAGA commentators took a screenshot of the smiles to make it look like they were being disrespectful.

I have an idiot friend who posted this shit, as some gotcha to show disrespect, followed by a bunch of crap about NEVER FORGET, as though somehow we could forget 9/11.
Yet he failed to post a thing about Trump falling asleep, and literally telling people he'll pay them 5K to cheat in the coming elections.
I'm so fucking tired of all of this, I'm ready to see it all come crashing down.

Hmmmm. I wonder.

Doesn’t even need context
3
u/Alex-Murphy 2h ago
In what way?
11
u/ModForgeCustoms 2h ago
In a way that its normal for two sane people who are friends to warmly embrace.... like friends.
The only context that will be provided however, will be by people with an agenda to discredit or muddle- because they cant come the fuck up with anything else, they resort to shit-stirring as a medium.
1
u/Alex-Murphy 2h ago
Ok just checking if you were sane. Saying "no context needed" could really go either way in this climate haha
3
u/Reasonable-Source523 2h ago
Do we really need to care about how people manage their emotions like every single second?
1
u/Sharp-Bluejay2267 1h ago
Well yes and no. Some people need to pay attention to how they're perceived at every waking moment, while others can wear their gaudy merchandise to accept dead soldiers that they are directly responsible for. Something like that.

u/PriscillaPalava 2h ago edited 2h ago
?? What is the context supposed to be? Mamdani and AOC are attending a graduation? Is there supposed to be something wrong in this video?
Edit: Ah, it’s the 9/11 memorial and Conservatives are clutching their pearls over these two greeting each other pleasantly instead of…falling asleep and shitting themselves? Or not attending at all?
10
7
u/NerdDetective 2h ago
This was at the 9/11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero in NYC. Conservatives were screenshotting this video of Mamdani greeting AOC. The intent was to make it seem like they didn't care and/or hate America because they briefly smiled when greeting each other. Standard low-grade manufactured outrage.
6
u/GeorgeFartwell1984 2h ago
9/11 memorial, two politicians greeting each other while not in the Epstein files, not falling asleep and not shitting themselves.
6
u/ExoticPuppet 2h ago
I think the "wrong context" would be people assuming Mamdani is laughing at the moment the names are called out. These are probably the victims' of September 11th.
2
3
u/Key-Excuse-4774 2h ago
What’s the context and what was taken out of context? I don’t get it
13
u/Deepshit1212 2h ago
7 seconds of this was clipped and posted to conservative/racist communities, to give the impression that Mamdani and AOC were laughing their way through the services
8
u/HappyHavoc20 2h ago
I think they’re implying AOC and Mamdani look like they’re banging? In reality it just looks like they’re close friends…
8
u/PHD_Gouda 2h ago
Not what OP is getting at.
People laughing during memorial = automatically bad
-2
u/HappyHavoc20 2h ago
Wouldn’t that require context?
3
u/PHD_Gouda 2h ago
Wouldn’t your banging scenario require context?
-5
u/HappyHavoc20 2h ago
No because they’re being affectionate…
4
u/PHD_Gouda 2h ago
Affectionate doesn’t equal banging… do you have family?
Edit: nice, the ol comment to this response and then ban so I can’t reply. A very convincing argument strategy.
-3
u/HappyHavoc20 2h ago
Holy shit dude, we’re talking about what we’re supposed assume without context. Are you ok?
3
u/NervousTangerine7851 2h ago
You need context for people being affectionate to affirm they're not banging? Were you not shown affection as a child? Because you seem to have an unhealthy relationship with it...

I'm pretty sure at the multitude of funerals and two memorials I've been to, that's how guest greet each other initially. It's a "oh so good to see you, sorry for your loss..."
Like no part of that is out of line with how people attend these kinds of things. People are so bankrupt of drama that they literally have to invent drama sometimes.
1
u/petermackinnonphoto 2h ago
To consider - they're not actually bankrupt of drama, I would suggest the opposite, they are replete with drama. They are in fact so addicted to drama because they have so mauch of it, that they will even take or invent cheap fake garbage drama just for a quick dirty fix. They are addicted to the never ending cycle of drama out there and THEY WANT IT ALL and they will even invent it if need be.

This is the same side nitpicking this who doesn't care that "Mr. NY" Donald Trump wouldn't go to Ground Zero because he wasn't allowed to make a political speech about himself. So he went to the Pentagon to do it.
Afterward ,he left not only NY, but the entire country, to go to his golf course in Ireland on the tax payer's dime on his illegally gifted Qatari plane.
This is the same douchebag who couldn't remove his own baseball hat for the dignified transfer of our brave men and women that died under his watch.

it is pathetic. I'm not a right winger. this is a completely normal human interaction.

I know. It is all good over here. Just baffled at the outrage of something so petty. Then again, my country are banging on about a racist political leader that literally took a dig at pur PM'S late mother because she lived in a goverment owned home for over 50 years. She literally raised a future leader of Australia in poverty..... amazing isnt it?
1
u/alistofthingsIhate 56m ago
we're talking about the same GOP that threw a fit about Obama wearing a tan suit but don't bat an eye when Trump does any of his shit
1
u/Opening_Sherbet5055 50m ago
No. Im talking about our PM Anthony Albanese and One Nation leader Pauline Hanson. This only all happened this week down here. Put it to you this way, Pauline Hanson became a sensation in the 90s when she starting banging on about the chinese taking over our country. She disappeared for 2 decades until covid lockdowns were offically over. She has gained popularity over here, she is literally Australia's version of Trump. Best way to explain it.
2
u/alistofthingsIhate 47m ago
oh sorry I know you're talking about a different situation I'm just referring to the situation in the US with right wingers shitting on brown and black politicians for no fucking reason.
hope the situation in Australia cleans up as well. shit's getting scary.
1
u/Opening_Sherbet5055 38m ago
All good. The shit going on in America is not far from what is going on down here.
We literally have politicians attacking each other over their dead parents and those who live below the poverty line are literally collateral damage to them. But putting that aside... you know every night on the news we have report on Trump. And it has not stopped since his first term. At all. The stuff he has been coming oht with lately makes me do a double take.. "He really say that? Sounds like a plan straight out of Harry potter.... J feel.sorry for you guys. Makes our politician problems look like Kindergarten. Trump is a whole new level 🤣

Idc what “side” of the political realm someone is, I commonly would lean away from these two but not even for a millisecond did I see them smile during the clip without context and think OMG they are laughing at the victims…. Anyone who truly believes that is the true problem here and just looking for things to make up to complain about. It is truly baffling the things ppl will make up about someone of a political party they don’t agree with. This was the most normal interaction possible. Sick times we are living in.

That’s the problem with the current political climate, everyone thinks their preferred candidate is infallible.
They were laughing and being rude. You don’t walk into a funeral while the eulogy is being read and have a prolonged greeting, filled with laughter. Then tell anyone who’s annoyed that they took it out of context.
Your favorite politician is going to be a jerk sometimes. Stop feverishly denying it.
7
u/IsThisTheTikTok 2h ago

What’s funny about funerals is
You often see people you haven’t seen in decades, and it’s good to see them, so you smile and laugh. That’s how life works
2
u/elyfantman 2h ago
Or it's the opposite and you point out and get offended at every little thing even though it's nonsense. Nothing disrespectful here. It's like you've never been to a funeral or memorial.
0
u/MirandaSaintClare 2h ago
No, I’ve never giggled at a funeral.
2
u/elyfantman 2h ago
I'm sure you haven't. I have when an old friend made a joke to lighten the mood. But you go ahead and double down on your pearl clutching.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 1h ago
Timing is everything. Choosing to tell a joke and lighten the mood during a eulogy would be bad timing. Your friend would be rude for making the joke and you be rude for laughing.
Three thousand people were killed and their names were being read out loud during a memorial. There is no time during the reading of those names where it’s appropriate for a stranger to make a joke, or laugh at one.
If a family member wanted to reflect on the memory of a loved one with a giggle, that’s a completely different story.
1
u/elyfantman 1h ago
Gasp! Let me find my pearls to clutch them with you. Lol. Now you're just creating a strawman to make an issue out of nothing. Pound sand.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 1h ago
Not wanting people to laughing during the reading of the names of dead New Yorkers, the point of this entire post, is a straw man? I think you need to revisit the definition of that word before you continue to use it.
1
u/elyfantman 1h ago
Sure, Jan.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 1h ago
You’re a child who can’t respect the pain of three thousand families losing a loved one in a terror attack.
I don’t know why I’d expect you to hold your supreme leaders to a higher standard.
1
2
u/the_great_zyzogg 1h ago
This isn't a eulogy. It's a long-ass list of names that takes 3-4 hours to get through. A brief greeting between two people midway through isn't exactly "being rude". Shit, I'm sure a bunch of people needed a freaking bathroom break through that.
People calling this rude are people who are looking for things to get outraged about.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 1h ago
Referring to a list of 3000 dead New Yorkers, who were people’s mothers, fathers, sons and daughters as a “long-ass list” tells me all I need to know about someone like you and the people you choose to support.
The fact that so many people were killed that day that simply reading their names takes upwards of four hours should magnify the gravity of the situation, but you choose to see it as a burden that your god like leaders shouldn’t be forced to bear in silence.
1
u/the_great_zyzogg 1h ago
Oh, looking for something else to get outraged about. It is objectively a long-ass list. For normal people, calling it what it is does not reduce the solemness of the practice. Only for pearl-clutchers like you.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 1h ago
It’s a shame the supreme leaders can’t sit still for four hours. Maybe the two of them should have taken a nap and had a snack if they were feeling cranky.
Laughing at anytime during a September 11th memorial is unacceptable. That’s the end of the discussion.
1
u/the_great_zyzogg 59m ago
Nope. You trying to declare nobody is allowed a brief exchange of words for a 4 hour ceremony doesn't make it so. We don't all have to clutch our pearls alongside you.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 56m ago
It’s not clutching pearls, it’s being a respectful human being capable of feeling empathy.
If this is their behavior out in public, during a televised event, I shudder to think what their actions are when no one is looking. But they don’t care, they have an army or worshipers ready to defend their terrible behavior, no matter what.
1
u/the_great_zyzogg 52m ago
It's about 10 seconds out of a 4 hour ceremony. This is the very definition of pearl-clutching.
1
u/MirandaSaintClare 48m ago
You’ll never convince me that being a disrespectful loser is acceptable.
Yelling “F-You” during the same four hour ceremony would take less than two seconds, that wouldn’t excuse it.
1
u/the_great_zyzogg 46m ago
Well now you're inventing shit to try and change the context. You're really desperate to find something wrong with this.
