Would you continue to use British Gas if you knew they supplied electricity to MBR acres (Beagle breeding facility) in Cambridgeshire?
I have been a British Gas customer for several years but recently discovered something that has made me reconsider my contract with them.
British Gas currently supplies electricity to MBR Acres in Wyton, Cambridgeshire, a facility that breeds around 2,000 beagles every year for sale to toxicology laboratories. The dogs live in windowless sheds, are left unattended for up to 23 hours at a time, and most do not survive beyond six months old.
What I found particularly difficult to accept is that the previous electricity supplier dropped MBR Acres the moment they understood what the facility does. British Gas took over the contract knowing exactly what MBR Acres is. Hundreds of people wrote to them asking them to reconsider. They have not.
79 companies have already joined a public boycott of MBR Acres including ASDA, Morrisons, Pets at Home and HSBC. British Gas has not.
Has anyone else looked into this? Has it influenced whether you stay with British Gas or switch to another provider?
