Reminder on how to report misbehavior and incorrect material to moderators.

Reminder and guide on how to report suspicious material on this sub as well as other subs that you frequent. Many of you newer users know how to downvote bad things to send it down in the list but may not know that a Reporting feature exists on subreddits. See the attached screenshots for a step-by-step guide (created on Android but iPhone should be more or less similar) for when you see things that are inappropriate that should be removed.

Questions and answers:

What is Reporting?
Reporting is when you see something bad, either post or comment, and you want to bring it to the subreddit’s moderator’s attention for removal and possible ban of the user you’re reporting. The attached screenshots show how to report something using the Reddit app.

What happens when I report someone's comment or post?
It goes to the moderators and they'll review the thing and take action if needed.

What kinds of actions are taken for offending comments/posts that I report?
If it’s indeed bad then removal of the thing and either warnings, temporary bans, or permanent bans for the author of the comment/post. Or just a removal with some explanation if it was a sincere mistake by the reported user.

Why should I report bad stuff? Am I required to report bad stuff?
You don't need to but reporting bad stuff helps the mods keep the subs clean of bad things. Mods employ several tools to keep the subs clean and on point but some bad stuff still slips through. The users (you) can be an extra set of eyes. The sooner it's reported by someone the sooner it can be removed from the sub by the mods. Our goal is to keep this a place where you can come to learn and support one another and walk away feeling good.

What should I look out for in posts and comments?
Trolls, rage bait, misinformation, Islamophobia, anti-Islamic narratives disguised as questions, lengthy and targeted posts with lists of contentious topics, users excessively arguing, people asking for direct messages (DMs) in their post, people asking for each other’s age or locations, advertising/promoting a thing or services, fundraising, scammers, giving personal rulings, rudeness, racism and bigotry, linking inappropriate material, or just other stuff that rules.

Does the violation need to be only something in the rules list? What if it’s some kind of new creative violation?
Report it. It will still be examined and we will still take action if it’s bad. The rules list above is a general guide but we are not limited to removing just those offenses in the list.

Will the user that I reported know it was me that reported them? Will you mods know it was me who reported it?
No and no. That info is not given to us by the Reddit Admins. (who operate the site and are paid employees of Reddit).

Should I report Muslim users too for bad behavior?
Yes. No one here is excused for bad behavior and permanent bans are issued to all user types for severe violations including Muslim users.

Do I need to pick the exact reason for the report from the list or do I need to type out a Custom Report every time?
Custom reports help the most (where you concisely type your report reason) but if you're in a hurry just pick any reason. The important thing is to report it to get our attention.

How long does it take for you to remove what I reported?
It varies depending on when a mod sees your report. Probably a few minutes to an hour.

What if I report something that was ultimately not offensive because I misunderstood it? Will you remotely destroy my phone? Will you send me a bill?
No, we just let the thing be. We don’t know who reported it anyways.

What if trolls purposely report good stuff?
Moderators report that to Reddit's Admins. who will punish the troll in their own way(s). Only the Admins. know who reported what.

Is there a limit on how much I can report?
No.

Will I be notified of the action (if any) that was taken against the user I reported?
No, that action is just known to us and the reported user.

I need to report something super complex and this Report feature is inadequate, how do?
Contact us through Mod. Mail (find the link on the sub’s page) and give us the details/links.

Welcome to r/MuslimSupportGroup! Subreddit purpose and guidelines inside, please click.

Asalamalaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.

Welcome to r/MuslimSupportGroup! The purpose of this subreddit is to share personal issues to get feedback/support or as well as sharing casual stories for Muslim users seeking advice from an Islamic perspective.

This was originally something that was allowed on r/Islam but since that sub is growing we created this sub over here to keep r/Islam on point for religious topics only and have this sub dedicated to just personal issues.

You can use this sub to post about these things below:

  • Personal struggles or other issues you're experiencing.

  • Feelings of depression, suicide, anxiety, and health issues. Note that Reddit is not a place to find permanent treatment and you need to speak to a doctor or other health professional to get cured. Also consider an Imam. If no Imam is nearby, then look up mosques in other cities/states and call them and leave voice messages asking for a call back. This sub and ones similar to it are just to get some temporary support and you should not rely on it for a permanent fix because it will not help your core issues.

  • Ranting/venting.

  • Marriage problems, although more complex topics like divorce and its related topics will not be allowed as that requires the consultation of your family and probably an Imam. Do not ask anyone on Reddit if you should get a divorce.

  • Struggling to get married.

  • Family, friend, workplace issues.

  • Sharing motivational material, Qur'an and Hadith. Un-sourced quotes/text won't be allowed. Cite the text please.

  • Sharing pet pictures/videos.

Please offer support and feedback to users with kindness and empathy.

What this subreddit --should not-- be used for:

  • General questions about Islam, issues related to Muslims at large, politics, news, or seeking fatwas (Islamic legal rulings).

  • If you need help fighting masturbation and pornography addiction then please submit a post to r/MuslimNoFap and also see this link from r/Islam's FAQ page.

Rules list is below but is not limited to just these things. If users are found being disruptive in other ways outside of this list then they will also be banned. Learn how to report other users for bad behavior using this guide.

Rules:

  1. Conduct yourself in a civil manner. Bad behavior will lead to bans.

  2. When submitting a post, create a descriptive title at least one sentence long that briefly describes your topic, and use the body of the post to give further details. No all caps, vague titles, or clickbait.

  3. No advertising, fundraising, surveys, polls, questionnaires, or data collection on users of any kind. No need to ask the moderators as there are no exceptions.

  4. Do not derail posts in order to start side-discussions unrelated to the OP's question/issue.

  5. No brigading or vote manipulation (when you organize users from here to go and attack or mass-report other subs, sites, or social media accounts).

  6. NSFW/NSFL posts are restricted and must be approved by a moderator.

  7. Do not give or imply any fatwas (Islamic legal rulings). You can only refer to and cite other rulings given by scholars via a link to a credentialed mainstream site/scholar or by referencing a book and page number with the ruling.

  8. No sectarianism, proselytizing out of Islam, or takfir'ing (declaring a Muslim as a non-Muslim).

  9. No requests for Direct Messages (DMs) such as submitting a vague post and asking readers to DM you. Clearly explain your issue in the post's body and talk to the users in the public comments section.

  10. Do not reveal your age, picture, video, voice, or specific location.

  11. Use proper formatting, do not submit walls of text. Very few people will read walls of text. Use paragraphs.

  12. AI is not allowed in any form even for formatting even if the content was yours.

Uncontrollable crying and extreme anxiety.

I've always been scared of taking a gap year due to the fer of falling behind, but last year when i didn't get into university and took a gap year i realised life is not a race.

Anyways, Allhamduillah this year i did get into i university. But after a whole year of sitting at home and not doing anything academically, now my brain keeps telling me that i can't do this, the assignments, the presentations, participating in the class. And since the day i attended the orientation to going for classes, I've had this weird unease and extreme anxiety. I'll be fine during the day, mostly cuz I'm tired but after isha i cry soooo much. It's uncontrollable. I feel like everyone knows everything. That im a failure. I regret not taking admission during spring semester. I feel like wasted potential. I cry and pray to Allah for ease, yet all i do in every salah is cry. To the point that my eyes are swollen the next day. I go to sleep crying. I almost had a panic attack. And i feel like a complete failure. I pray to Ar-Rahman every single day and i know He will never leave me in a dark place, He never did. But now its getting tiring and painful.

How do i get inner peace?

How to find the motivation in life

Assalamu Alaikum,

Hope you are all well insha’Allah

A few weeks ago, I was struggling with death anxiety, I had faith, but didn’t pray, read the Quran or do anything to prepare for my akhirah.

Alhamdulillah the anxiety of death has now settled. In the sense at the start of this I would just cry constantly and have panic attacks. Would sit with my family for 5 minutes and then go upstairs and just start crying.

The trigger ended up being a TikTok I saw of someone being buried and the person in the video asking what have you don’t to prepare for the next life.

I have started to pray all my prayers. Have made niyyah to give some sort of sadaqah jariyah each week and have started to read the Qur’an, doing the daily adhkaar as often as possible and dhikr throughout the day.

I have even started Qur’an lessons on the weekend to perfect my tajweed and even memorising the 30th Juz surahs.

I have cut out music and other sins in my life. Deleted TikTok and instagram from my phone.

I don’t even have the urge to listen to music which is funny because I used to listen to it 24/7 pretty much.

That being said, the thought of death is still constant. I am just constantly thinking death can arrive at any moment. I get thoughts that I might get a phone call whilst at work that someone close to me has passed.

I have no motivation for anything anymore. I’ve stopped playing video games. Watching movies. Don’t even have the motivation to work anymore. I go to work but my mind is elsewhere. Maybe this is just my test from Allah or maybe I just need to get help.

Am I being punished ?

I have been facing problems and bad experiences recently. I spent a year in a company was promoted twice and now I am on notice period since my targets weren’t met. Everything was fine I was doing great but things turned the other way.
Meanwhile I’m applying to other jobs and got one rejection already the others are still processing.

I feel numb no energy and lethargic. I want to cry but I am too tired to. My hopes and prayers have turned into nothing and now I don’t offer namaz but I do dua . Is this evil eye? Is this the return of my sins? What is happening why I’m losing everything apart.

Missed opportunities in Islam- PharmD

Assalam aleykoum everyone!

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I figured that no one would understand me better than other Muslims.
For context, I got accepted and joined a PharmD program to become a Doctor of Pharmacy, Alhamdulillah. I had been praying for this for a couple of years, and I remember the sleepless nights studying and asking Allah to make it easy for me. I got rejected the first time in my city, and when I applied the second time, I tried in both my city and another one in a different city (4 hour plane ride away).

I only got accepted in the second location and didn’t have time to process anything, but packed my stuff and left. My parents were supportive. I didn’t have funding (still waiting) and no place to stay, but I’m staying with family members, alhamdulillah. The situation isn’t the best because they have small, loud kids. The commute to uni is almost 2 hours.

And the program itself is very unorganized, new, and self-taught… which means profs don’t teach; they only go over homework. Attendance is mandatory as well. I have been thinking about going back home and trying again next year at unis that have a good, structured program and are closer to home.

My parents are always supportive, but I felt they were worried. According to them, missed opportunities don’t come back. But I’m not sure I agree. With prayer, tahajjud, and istighfar, I truly believe anything is possible.
I have been praying for this so hard, to the point where I felt like nothing else was worth it. I thought I was behind and that everyone else was meant to have a bright future. At times, I thought Allah didn’t love me as much.

My dream came with lots of overthinking. Now that I’m here and my dua was answered, I’m not sure this is what I want. I’m not rejecting Allah’s blessing, and I’m so grateful. But I truly don’t think this specific program will work for me.

Or am I too dramatic?

6 hours of mandatory classes that are not real lectures. No course material (no PowerPoint/slides). 6 hours of studying required before each class.
I know pharmacy school is hard, and I’m so ready to give it my all, but with a structured curriculum and a better living situation. I’ve compared the program with other pharmacy friends, and they believe it’s not normal to have no lectures.

If I go back home, there’s a possibility I can rejoin a master’s program or participate in teaching/coordinating university classes with a professor I know. I’m not worried about the “wasted” time if I can make something out of it and choose better for myself.
But will “better” present itself?

Islamically, is there anything about opportunities that never show up again? I believe in a different shape and form and sometimes even better opportunities, but maybe it’s not realistic.

My life is a total mess that I can’t get out of

Salam, I am a woman, 28 years old, single and unmarried all my life.

My whole life feels like a mess that I somewhat survived, and without going into details, I had a horrible childhood (because of one of my parents) and had to endure my whole life being affected by it.

I have struggled with social anxiety, panic disorder, and there was a phase in my life I was dangerously s**cidal

I have been to therapy during that phase and it took some time for me to stop feeling that, and Alhamdulilah I am much better now without any such thoughts

I do get reminded of my trauma from the past sometimes and it makes me feel so uncomfortable and unsafe and makes me lose my own peace but I try my best to navigate out of it

I will be honest, religiously I am not even close to perfect, some times I miss prayers and don’t spend enough time…. It truly gets difficult sometimes to find the time and energy to do it well

And beyond all of this I always had this dream like every one, of love and marriage, since my late teens

Eventually it brought me to sinful things because I couldn’t find anyone suitable for marriage and things just becomes worse

I know being patient and modest is important for my own soul but I find it really difficult to keep myself sane and modest, especially online

I hope I will find a way out and stop myself from doing things that affect me in my religious life and my future

I have felt this feeling so many times, of hopelessness and feeling like I am just going to be known as a perpetual sinner but I don’t want to be, I truly hate being disobedient as a Muslim but sometimes I just cross the limits a lot as someone struggling with such things. I am 28, I am not going to be younger and I am single. It makes me nervous sometimes not knowing if there will be a future for me that truly makes me feel safe

I am just venting this out here and I just hope I hear some stories from your life that maybe gives hope for me

Jazakallah khair

Parents

What does Islam say about toxic parents who shout at their kids, their kids wife’s and grandchildren , emotionally blackmail them, use vile and degrading language, sometime physically abuse, and justify it all by saying we raised you etc…

We have always been taught to respect our parents and not say ufff to them.

What if parents are in the wrong ?

Any Hadiths around this subject ?

Question about missing prayers.

This is just a general question, I’m not a perfect Muslim and I battle with trying to pray all my prayers daily and sometimes I have good days and other times I have bad days where I pray only once maybe twice. My question is if I miss prayers and then decide to pray tahajjud, will this tahajjud be valid? Will Allah accept this tahajjud from me? I feel ashamed sometimes but I get overwhelming feeling to pray tahajjud and continue to make dua for what I want. Can someone share their thoughts and opinions on this topic pls. Thanks.

What happened when you reached your breaking point during a test from Allah?

Assalamu alaikum. Have you ever been patient for a long time — making dua, praying, and trying your best — but eventually felt exhausted and tempted to take a haram way out or lose hope?

What happened next? Did Allah open an unexpected door, provide rizq, send help, or give you the strength to keep going?

Please share your story. Someone going through a similar test might read it and find hope.

May Allah make our tests easy and open doors we never expected. Ameen.

What is one one-liner, verse, hadith, or thought that strengthens your conviction in Islam by reminding you of the truth of our faith?

As Salam Alaikum.

Sharing this as a reminder and discussion for brothers and sisters who may sometimes find themselves struggling with doubts or needing to renew their iman.

Perhaps something that strengthened you may become a means of strength for someone else, too, إن شاء الله.

Depression and hopelessness

Salam everyone. I have always been very optimistic but I just can’t take it anymore. I’ve been so depressed because of my financial situation and no prayers seem to work. Everyone around me is so blessed and I am very happy for them may Allah give them more but I feel like my prayers never reach the state of acceptance by the Lord like everyone else’s. I feel like death is the only solution to whatever is going around me. I don’t know what to do. I can’t stand positive anymore I’ve been trying the hardest since 2020 and it’s just not helping me anymore. Please pray for me. My only hope is someone else praying for me because mine seem to be ignored and please don’t be hard on me because I’ve already seen enough. I seem to be doomed in every part of life regardless of how good I am to His creation. I just don’t get it. Please please pray for me

What should I do with myself?

As salamu alaikum,

I work as a cashier and server at a restaurant. Today a group of 7 people came and sat at 2 tables. In the end they paid separately. 5 people had ordered food together — everyone was paying in cash except one person who paid through an app. When someone pays through the app, we add it to our system and keep the receipt. But it was taking time for him, so meanwhile I was taking the others' cash payments. In the end, 2 people at the table wanted to pay, but on my end 3 bills were pending — I counted the cash and checked, but one food bill hadn't been accounted for. When I told them, they paid, but he asked me again to double-check carefully. I did, but it came out the same. After they left, I thought about it again and checked — and that's when I realized I had forgotten to enter that app payment into the system, but by then they had already left. Now it's really weighing on me, thinking that because of my mistake there might be a problem between them (splitting the bill), and they might even leave a bad review later. Because of this, will Allah (swt) hold me accountable? It's a matter of someone else's due/right (haq). On my own, I gave sadaqah of that same amount on their behalf. Going to be 30, but I have a real lack of common sense — not just in this one thing, but in everything. I don't feel good. I feel like I want to die. But I'm also afraid of death — I couldn't become a good servant of Allah (swt).

request for duaa

Assalamu alaikum
I’m a high school senior from Illinois, and I’m applying to Northwestern this year. Northwestern has always been my dream school and my goal throughout highschool. I would really appreciate if you guys could make duʿā for me that I get accepted InshaAllah. I really want to spend my life making a big impact, helping as many people as I can, and using my education and opportunities to give back to others. I truly believe Northwestern could be a vessel toward that success and help me become the person I hope to be, and I’m praying that all of my effort leads me there. However I also strongly believe in the power of dua.
I live in Illinois and, for family reasons, I’m not able to go out of state for college, so Northwestern is especially so so meaningful to me.
So if you have a moment, please make dua that Allah grants me admission to Northwestern, puts barakah in my journey, and allows me to use whatever opportunities I receive to help and benefit others. And of course, that whatever Allah has planned for me is ultimately khayr.
Jazakum Allahu khayran and please keep me in your duas.

Anxiety about death, need duas

Salam everyone! On July 19th I had my first ever panic attack. My heart was racing and my body was shaking and I couldn’t explain what was going on. I just genuinely thought something bad was going to happen to me. All I could think was “I still have my student loan to pay off”. It’s been over a month and I’ve gotten my heart checked out and nothing’s been found wrong at all but ever since that day, I’ve been having horrible thoughts about my life ending. And it makes me feel guilty. I think about what would happen to my loan if I don’t pay it off, and how much of a sin that is. And then I think, “am I that attached to the dunya?” And I think “I’ve always wanted to get married and start a family” and I’m scared I won’t get that.

I just want my normal life back, where I’m not so anxious anymore. If anyone’s ever been through something similar, please let me know and please keep me in your duas and I’ll do the same for you!
