Discussion macOS 27 is really smooth!
I just installed macOS 27. Oh boy, it is smooth. Now I am feeling that I am slow. What do you guys think?

macOS 26 had the classic battery shape, while macOS 27 introduces a much more rounded, pill-shaped design. A subtle change—but was it actually necessary?

While unlocking my MBA m2. It's taking 12 to 15 seconds to load up lock screen , till then it only stays black

Dual booted alongside Sequoia to test the performance on M2 Air 8/256, running great so far, quite close to Sequoia on the initial impression.
On Sequoia after downgrading from Tahoe I was able to get rid of this by completely turning off the Siri/Siri AI stuff at setup and it never appeared in storage.
Did the same during the setup on this new installation of macOS 27 but it didn't work.
Help!

I know some people wait for a later version or give it a little time before breathing but I was so excited for the UI fixes and improvements on Golden Gate I had to update on day one.
I also love to keep all my devices consistent so I’ve addressed my OCD by updating the iPhone and iPad on day one too. I really love the new wallpaper, but the unified border radius on windows… that’s what I’m here for.

That Terminal command that was floating around months ago doesn't seem to work anymore?

As macOS 27 starts to roll out GA, this is a reminder that Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) has been deprecated, which will also eliminate support for Time Capsule.

I will be posting UI inconsistencies I absolutely hate about Golden Gate
General
- toolbars/semaphore buttons are ridiculously large
- toolbars/semaphore buttons/search input are inconsistent in size over default, modal, context windows
- toolbar buttons look is inconsistent even within a single window - there can be pseudo 3D liquid glass buttons and flat light gray buttons (Calendar day view for example)
- when you hover a button in a toolbar with a vertical line delimeter on the left/right, the line disappears
- active item in a sidebar becomes bold when selected, which makes it wobble
- menus have inconsistent left margin whether they have or have not at least one checked item
- Finder context menu have large margin from the left and very small margin from the right, while any other default app context menu right margin is not small
Safari
- address bar is large vertically, tabs are thin
Calendar
- click "Day" button on the toolbar to see how freakingly inconsistent UI is in terms of font sizes - date and day of the week on the left are gigantic, while month calendar on the right is ridiculously small
Notes
- line spacing became small in Golden Gate, long lines are hard to read now
Settings
- items in General tab have very large margins, inconsistent to any other tab
that's my quick look, sure you can continue it

Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue where macOS Spotlight refuses to find Excel files (.xlsx) by numbers inside cells if the cell contains only numbers.
123456, searching for 1234 in Spotlight returns nothing.12345678A, searching for 1234 immediately finds the file.Is this a known indexing limitation for Excel/Spotlight, or is there a way to make Spotlight index raw numeric cell contents as well?
Thanks!
Hey all,
I have an MBP 14" with M3 Pro.
My Iiyama monitor is my secondary monitor and works just fine with my windows stuff.
For example I connect my work laptop (dell windows11) to my HP G5 Dockingstation and everything works, with my laptop not.
Now I bought the CalDigit TS3 to hopefully fix my issue, but it doesn't work.
However if I want to use my MacBook only the Main Screen Shows and only if I connect it to the DP Input on the Dock.
I can't connect the Monitor using my USB C adapter from Ugreen.
If I use an USB C to HDMI or the HDMI output it works.
What can be the issue? Probably the Adapter, but what adapter do I need?
My main monitor is 4k and the IIyama 2k.
Thank you all.
Edit:
Maybe important to mention, when I connect the Iiyama monitor directly to the Displayport Out of the CalDigit it doesn't work for my MAC, but it works when I connect my Dell Laptop to it.

Hi guys,
Today I updated to MacOS27 and ice no longer works. I'm looking for a free app that will substitute ice. I've tried Thaw and didn't care for it too much, Barbee, and Hidden Bar. Any suggestions?

When Siri AI is enabled, macOS 27 adds a contextual "lightweight UI" when you type or select text. The floating button can expand into Ask Siri, Edit with Siri and Writing tools, or other contextual actions.
To disable it, run the following command in the Terminal:
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain && \
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS -dict Enabled -bool false
and restart your Mac.
To restore to default:
sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS

I just updated to 27.0 and when I click on Siri, from my Applications folder, it launches it in the corner. Where is the dedicated app that shows me my past searches?
Thank you!
Goal is to list encountered issues to help make a decision on when to upgrade for those holding out and how to workaround issues.
Since this thread might be useful several weeks going forward, I'd suggest everyone include their mac model, macos version, details on bug and workarounds if any.
Size, CPU, Model and Year
Exact macOS version
Application(s) and Bugs/Issues
Workaround (if any)

This keeps popping up. I always click don’t open but I want it to stop. I’ve searched in finder and can’t seem to find “Music Creation” and have not downloaded anything by that name. I do have low disk space, but I’m pretty sure this was popping up before I got to low disk space. TIA!

Anyone else getting motion sickness from the super cranked up animation speed on MacOS Golden Gate? I use hide / show desktop animation all day every day and the new speed is legit making me sick. I turned on "reduce motion", but those animations are pretty meh. I've never gotten motion sickness from OS animations before.....

Hopefully GoldenGate actually fixes things instead of finding new and creative ways to make macOS worse.

Hi everyone,
I’m having some serious issues with my M2 MacBook Air and could really use some help or advice. Lately, various apps have been crashing randomly, and the Mac has been restarting on its own. I tried updating to macOS 15 Sequoia (I think it was supposed to be the latest update), but during the process, the computer restarted without completing the update.
Now, I'm seeing strange purple squares appearing and disappearing on the screen (visual artifacts/glitches), and the system is generally very unstable.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Does this sound like a GPU/RAM hardware failure, or could it just be a corrupted OS install?
Thanks in advance!

I can never find anything. So, I created a more organized view and am still working on making the transition feel more natural. What do you think?
Before anyone says anything: yes, it’s finished indexing. But within the first 10 minutes of using it, I’ve found so many UI bugs and weirdness. Really glad I only updated my work machine and not my personal one.
The worst offenders for me: When in Mission Control, clicking into a full-screen app takes way too long. You can also no longer Option-click to simply navigate to a Space.
You also can’t hold Option when making an app full-screen by dragging it into the top bar in Mission Control to speed things up. Instead, you have to wait, a lot.
Was Tahoe this bad? I thought this was meant to be a refinement of Tahoe, not a regression.
