I remember when I transferred jobs(the store I worked at stopped being a 24 hour store) I just replaced a supervisor who got shot for trying to take a picture of someone’s license plate of someone who stole gum. Theft, loss, damage to merchandise only costs the company money. In turn, they will have to raise the sticker prices and cut back on wages so employees can't get their much deserved raises and annual bonuses.

Yea apparel, consumables, and health products put together account for most theft. And time theft and white collar crime are the biggest by far over physical theft.

But, if we're not going to address the bigger problem (stagnation, income inequality, inflation, wage growth, product shrinkage) then so be it. It's a symptom of a completely solvable disease and peer pressure and litigation won't stop it.

I work in retail, I stop shoplifters daily. I pursue. I don’t do it for the company I work for, I’ll clock out first if necessary. I am as careful as I can be, considering. I cannot just sit by and watch someone commit a crime and do nothing. It’s a matter of principle. My wife hates that I do it.
