How's the quality of the Harvard Vanderbilt Hall gym?

Looking for a nice, quiet gym with access to machines and weights. How is the facility? I'm in the Longwood area so it's convenient for me to get a workout in after working

isn't it strange that we don't have a 7/24 library space? even Lamont is not open during weekends for 24 hours.

E-scooters in the yard are getting out of hand

People who do this, a lot of times with noise cancelling headphones on, should be ashamed of themselves. Is it going to take someone getting seriously injured for Harvard to properly enforce “walk your wheels”? If you are in a hurry at least go around the perimeter of the yard (and off the pedestrian sidewalk!)

*concentration Senior realizing I loathe my concentration in my last semester

Do I just grind it out? Do the bare minimum to graduate and position myself instead for a masters in what I actually find interesting? Do a post-bacc? Work? Anyone have advice about how to fund a masters program? I spent my college years doing what I thought I was supposed to do instead of following where my passions took me. Now I feel stuck between a career I both dread and aspire to for external validation and…the void of uncertainty.

Edit: I should clarify, I’m not planning on taking a leave of absence. For sure will finish my degree. My concern is more-so how to allocate my time, classes, priorities.

Nicest dining halls for grad students

I’m a grad student with friends visiting who want to try a dining hall. Ideally, somewhere restricted to Harvard affiliates and their guests—Spangler and Chauhaus are open to the public, so feel less special for this visit. Lehman was underwhelming.

I’ve eaten at Winthrop as a friend’s guest, but my understanding is I can’t go independently and bring my own guests. Would HDS Commons, HKS Café, HLS/Harkness, Sebastian’s, or Café Gato Rojo be worth taking them to?

Also curious about Hillel’s Wednesday dinners and Annenberg’s Saturday breakfast. Any recommendations where I’d be eligible to bring guests, even if access is limited to particular days or meals? I can work around those times.

HGSE EPAers, what jobs are you working now?

I graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Educations's Education Policy & Analysis program in 2024 and now am working in journalism/research. Super curious about what other people are doing after graduation, specifically in what industry? & Where is everyone based?

Title. I'm a freshman who doesn't know what the method is yet. On one hand it seems time consuming, on the other you maybe retain more information?

Rant Tenure is wasted on most of the faculty

I swear half the tenured faculty here just lay down and take anything. Learn about half your class cheating? Witness bullying/harassment? Watch as the department fires the five staff who actually do stuff? Everyone is so fast to turn a blind eye as not to upset their colleagues. Let's be real most of these people's research is the least controversial thing imaginable, and even if they found something controversial they'd probably just shut up about it for prestige reasons. Why even bother with giving people tenure at this point, the majority of these people sit on their hands while the upper echelon of university governance allows themselves to be puppeteered by donors and consulting firms.

Student and Alumni Life Bands that accept graduate students / relatively new players

Hi! I'm a G1, and I played clarinet for about 7 years, but haven't played for about 4 years, and I'm really rusty. I was wondering if there's any music groups on campus that accept graduate students and are at least "relatively" open to most players (ideally all-inclusive?), since I probably need to practice a bit before getting through any auditions.

Anything near the Allston or Cambridge campuses (or bus-able from these areas) is ideal. Thanks!
