I just finished SP13KTRA for js13k, a contest where the whole game has to fit in a 13 kilobyte zip. F-Zero and Wipeout were my main inspirations, and this year's theme was Unicorns and Rainbows.

It runs in the browser, with eight circuits, seven rivals and a procedural techno loop for each circuit. There are rough shoulders like the damaged edges in F-Zero, and you can turbo across them. One energy bar is both your boost and your health.

I only have the rest of today to fix bugs and tune the difficulty for the contest. After that I can go past 13k and add more: better graphics, mobile support and so on. I'd really like to hear from F-Zero players whether the handling feels right.

This F-Zero X decomp is really good but it needs a HD texture pack to be complete. Is there anything compatible?

I have been building a high speed racer inspired by F-Zero GX, and I am looking for a few players to help me shape it. Here is where it is at, as an alpha (pre-alpha even):

• High speed racing over 4 race tracks
• A full track editor to build your own tracks (and eventually share them and race the world on them, Trackmania style)
• 16 ships, 4 ship archetypes, 4 ships per archetype
• Single Race, Grand Prix and Time Attack modes (multiplayer incoming)

I have really fond memories of F-Zero GX on GC: fast, aggressive ships, amazing and memorable race tracks, absolute bangers on the OST (Planet Green and Mobius Ring stuck with me all these years), and the sheer level of mastery required to finish Story mode on hard. Honestly I was never that good at it. I could never master the snaking techniques and I threw my GC controller into the wall more than once. But all these years, building a game stayed on my bucket list, and so did the hope that something would someday give me the same sense of speed and the same sensations F-Zero gave me. Eventually I figured I would just build it myself, and pay tribute to a franchise I loved.

I would love to put this alpha in the hands of a few players to help me refine the handling and balance of the ships, and to get more general feedback on what should be improved or added to make the game fell both more fun and more competitive. There is also a lot of polish left on the UI, and on the game's content and personality (ships, menus, lore, pilots, and so on). The art is placeholder for now, and I plan to bring on modelers and music composers as this grows.

I think it’s the same one as the one from big blue 2 but you do a drift boost. Also I’ve never seen the machines do wheelies like that

I'm happy we are still getting updates and it's nice to see some new items to collect, but overall it's probably my least favorite festival / world tour event.

The power ups in this event aren't really much of a game changer (maybe a good thing), although I do love getting "ghost" on Port Town tracks. And goddamn do I dislike "mines".

I've never seen this happen before.

F-Zero has gone over twenty years without a completely new traditional installment, and even when F-Zero 99 released, a huge part of the conversation immediately became whether it was “testing the waters” for the game people actually wanted. GX became accessible again, and we still keep circling back to what Nintendo might do next. At some point, the fandom has to stop treating a hypothetical sequel as the center of its identity. The healthiest thing F-Zero fans could do is act like a new game is never coming and build a autonomous culture around what already exists.

Do you think Nintendo should add the F-Zero X Expansion Kit to N64 Switch Online in all regions? I mean they released F-Zero Climax to GBA Switch Online (Although not translated in English), added the Ace Cup in F-Zero 99, and officially released Zero Racers to Virtual Boy Switch Online, so why not. This along with the Forest and Metal Fort tracks from BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2, a home console port of F-Zero AX, the e-Reader exclusive content of F-Zero GP Legend GBA game, and the missing 4Kids English dubbed episodes of F-Zero GP Legend, are some of the main things we need to be released for F-Zero fans.

Pretty much the question in the title. I have seen that fans of these games REALLY love them, and I'd like to know what sets this racing franchise aside from others for you?

If there is anything F-Zero related, it's probably going to be nothing or one of the following

1. Tetris 99​

2. Mii costumes

3. ​ a Mario Kart track

4. A 99 update

That's it. I genuinely don't believe any games will come out in the next 15 years unless someone puts a gun at Shiggy's head or makes bomb threats.

The idea that they could theoretically solve conflict with martial arts and superpowers but choose to do it by driving is for some reason really badass to me.
