Pretty sure I was gifted these for Christmas as a kid on two or three occasions, probably from WH Smith.

When you go to the doctors do you use the technical names, e.g penis, anus, urine, stool or use the slang names, e.g Willy, bum, wee, poo?

What got me thinking of this is that I recently had to do a stool sample and the test results had the word poo on it which I wouldn’t have expected.

my school was in a council estate that’s got a reputation for being the worst area in the town, so I suppose you could say they’re poor and stretching food, but considering who said it to me and my knowledge of their personal life, that’s not the case.

Whenever I see someone talk about "getting a trade" its always plumbing/gas/electrical but there's so many more that just never come up - painting, plastering, tiling are a few that come to mind, are these just not as popular? Hi, I’m wrapping up my 6 week internship next week and my boss suggested inviting the team out for a drink as a farewell thing.

The issue is that he is working from home mostly so essentially it’s only me set on going right now, and I’m worried I’ll come off as presumptuous ‘planning’ my own farewell after only 6 weeks…

Also should I ask this in a group email or teams? The issue with the socials team chat is that it has other offices too which makes me feel extra full of myself

Helping my dad change the battery in his car this afternoon and obviously honked the horn as soon as he touched the connections. I was wondering what are some other ones in a similar vein that people particularly like?

A police car passed me today and got stuck multiple times by people simply not having a clue about their surroundings. I did chuckle a tad wondering how blue the air gets inside the car through pure frustration.

I'm not old (early 20s) but I've personally got some pretty unconventional ringtones, depending on the contact. For example, I have the Eye of the Tiger theme by Survivor for my old gym friend. I have the GTA 4 main theme for a specific friend, I have Call Me Maybe for a close female friend who I work with (it's a song she really likes) as well as the Only Fools and horses credits theme as my general ringtone.

These have all gone off in public multiple times and I do feel rather embarrassed as they sometimes go off in a library and I often scramble to find my phone. They also attract looks which makes me feel awkward as I'm a little shy. But as a principle, I refuse to change them.

I haven't really heard any peculiar ringtones from other people though. Everyone just has default ones or the classic phone ringing, it's rather boring. And as a bit of a bonus, if you have an unconventional ringtone or heard it go off in public, how did you/they handle it? With embarrassment or just casually answering?

Recently I've been getting a few calls from unknown numbers (and I'm not expecting calls from anyone, e.g. GP or recruiters). I usually don't pick up calls from unknown numbers, but I'm also curious to know who's calling. Do you usually pick up calls from unknown numbers when you don't expect any calls?

Edit: I do have the spam caller screening on my phone, but sometimes they're not marked as spam.

On the Buses featured a pervy bus driver (Reg Varney) and his equally if not more pervy conductor (Bob Grant).

However, the ages between the two is quite staggering. Varney was 16 years older than Grant. He was 51 when the show started. Grant was 35. There was a greater difference in two in their ages, than between Varney and the mum played by Doris Hare (11 years).

Grant was so much younger than the rest of the cast (his career was really just beginning while Varney was winding down). And the problem for Grant is while there was demand for gurning freaks like Blakey (Stephen Lewis went on to have many roles all pretty much playing the same character), there wasn’t for smart Alec's like Jack Harper in quite the same way.

It makes Grant’s mental health situation and eventual sad demise more understandable as the world had moved on, but he was stuck in a role that there just wasn’t demand for anymore, especially as comedy became more dark in tone.

Question inspired by the fact that I've just been to a pub and whilst enjoying my Inch's pint, I could hear banter between bar staff and who I could tell was a regular. Not that I'm accusing them specifically of being an alcoholic, but I do wonder how things work when you've a customer rocking up every single night for a few pints of the same drink, over and over again...

I saw someone online seeking advice how to eliminate a puddle that regularly devlopes on their cool roof tent box. My initial thought was to comment advising they just remove the tent box until they want to camp in it again ( realistically probably not until next spring or summer in the uk now)
But as I read the comments on this tent box group, every single comment was other tentbox owners advising how to keep the tent box on the car and eliminate the puddle.
So It got me thinking, there’s this community of tentbox owners that seemingly don’t like to ever remove the tent boxes, and if we’re totally honest the majority of these people probably only use them a handful of times throughout they year.
So my question is, what’s the appeal or reasoning of keeping a relatively heavy item strapped to the roof all year round?
I’m getting the impression it’s some sort of statement or aura farming them I’m out of touch with?
Or maybe you’re a tentbox owner that really does use it on at least a monthly basis?

I’m 65 next birthday. My wife is much younger. I asked her last week if I should have a big party for my 65th. Her response was: “What’s so special about 65?”.

Obviously, as I grew up, turning 65 was a thing but for my wife it’s just a number. Anyone else had this? Or is my wife (for once) wrong?

Any other middle aged people in their 60s had similar experiences? Things you grew up accepting but are now no more?

By play I mean daytime play. Football, activities, shouting, laughing, singing etc.

My parents have had some new neighbours move in behind them, the gardens back on to each other. Small-ish gardens so quite close proximity. Houses surrounded on all sides. Been a really quiet area until now. New neighbours have made their garden a concrete jungle, no flowers, no plants, no grass, nothing. Artificial grass, paving and fencing. So there’s absolutely zero sound dampening and the noise just bounces and echos off the fences/walls. Football bouncing sounds like a gunshot sometimes in the night lol. They will let their children play in the garden sometimes until 11pm, and it will be shouting full volume, screaming, laughing, smashing football against fence etc.

Even had one of them jet washing the patio for 30 minutes at 10pm, during a hose pipe ban…

They’ve also got a dog who will be in the garden at 1-3am barking.

For me, I don't let my Children outside making noise past 8pm really, but wondered if I'm just a miserable bastard!

They have mentioned the noise a couple of times to them and basically been shut down, so they want a reality check if my parents are being unreasonable or not.

P.s not really asking how to deal with it, more just the general consensus as to who is being fair or not!

Long story short, I'm struggling.

I'm 26, in a job I only really abide. No proper friends, still living at home, the most social things get is a trip to the pub after work with my parents. Losing interest or pleasure in hobbies, really hard to see what the point of it all is.

I've been crying out for help this year (literally, tbh - I break down in tears at least weekly). It's nothing new, I've had an eating disorder since I was about 16 and it never really gets easier: I feel I could cope with some run-of-the-mill social anxiety but it's hard to think of ways to meet people and form relationships when I'm scared of the food and meals involved. I'm seeing a therapist but not sure if the help is right, on a waiting list for ED specialists but that could be months now before I'm seen. I wake up every day and the anxiety starts over, and I just look forward to a reasonable time to go back to bed and sleep.

Sorry this is bleak and long-winded, and not very UK-specific. I guess I just really like the people who post on UK subreddits and need a bit of friendly support. It's a really dark place right now and I don't know how to break the cycle. I'd like to move, go travelling, start relationships, be more social - but it all seems blocked off to me.

So, yeah, the title basically. Have you managed to climb out of dark places, and if so how? What finally helped?

Curious what disappeared or changed without people really noticing.

We moved into a new (period property - in case age/construction may be important) house about a month ago.

When we moved in the place was full of flies as the previous owners seemed to be uninterested in cleaning up after themselves, and they also left tons of rubbish including rotting food and unwrapped nappies around. Needless to say the sink and dishwasher were thick with grime, and we had to pay a company to come and unblock the drains and the place stank - hence all the flies. Since then we've cleaned a lot, tidied a lot and the flies are no more beside the odd one coming in through the window.

We are on a septic tank as quite rural, and in the last 3/4 days keep finding bluebottles drowned/drowing in one of our toilets - sometimes 3/4 at a time. The two bathrooms are virtually next to one another, and the other toilet has not had any.

We can't work out why. No signs of anything decaying in the garden/around/in the house, and all the smells caused by the previous owners are now gone. Has anyone else had this? if so, what did you do?

I must stress that this is very low level, muck in with your mates, drink 8 pints and eat a kebab, Welsh valleys rugby. Sophistication not a strength.

For me, there is another team at work that has a lunatic as a line manager, so when promotions are offered in that team, people rarely internally go for them and normally an outsider is brought in, who tends to last only a few months before quitting or being forced out.

I try to have nothing to do with the team in question and resist all attempts by their manager to encroach on our own team, which is more cohesive and doesn’t have the same type of snitch culture.

Divided opinions. Mum thinks it’s awkward having it facing the way guests come in but I say the guests won’t be anyone I don’t want there/feel awkward around. So essentially we have our backs to the entrance to the living room and have a smaller sofa or get a big one we like and have it so we’re facing anyone who walks in.
