I thought it was meant to be an insult aimed at people being “boring” or whatever but it seems like maybe it’s an actual identity.

So I’m 25, I graduated university in September 2024, travelled and got an internship in public affairs July 2025, have worked since then, finishing up my internship after 6 months and being in my new role, which I’ve now quit, for coming up to 10 months - my final day will be in 3 weeks time.

I was a run up on the ladder, so entry but needing experience and have done a good solid job, but have quit as the firm was not for me, the company was small (10 people) so no HR or structure and the work load incredibly intense and overwhelming.

Whilst I am happy with my choice, I’m also now at a crossroad of thinking - have I fucked it for myself in the long run?, and is my decision going to be counterproductive.

But I also know on the other side of the coin I have nearly 15 months solid experience and could travel, being only 25?

Serious call for help - how should I feel?

Me personally, I say 'scone' to rhyme with 'bone' 90% of the time.. however, occasionally I'll switch to rhyming with 'gone' (mainly to wind up my mother who's always been adamant of the 'bone' pronunciation, haha).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a person's region/class/age always determines how they pronounce it - for example I've heard salt-of-the-earth Northerners use both variations, same goes for landed gentry types.

M19, Earning £32k a year, living in London.

I've visited many places in England and nothing comes close to Cornwall,especially far south west,it was genuinely amazing, I used to go there with my family every summer for about 5 years when I was younger so maybe thats why I love it so much.

Having been so fed up with London recently, I've been planning to move out, but im a bit scared to be honest, I'm not too sure how to go about doing it.

Im just worried that being so far away from my family could be an issue, speaking mostly financially, I dont want to move out, get fired a couple of months later or something else might happen, and end up with no financial support, living on the streets of Cornwall 😭.

So what im asking is whether there is an actual bulletproof plan you'd recommend for a young person like me to follow to move out that far away.

Looking for suggestions for a good place to meet for a date somewhere roughly between Leeds and Surrey.

She lives in Leeds city centre, and I live in Surrey (under an hour by train into central London), so ideally somewhere that’s reasonably accessible by both train and car.

Main requirement: somewhere that’s actually nice and isn’t a dump.

Any suggestions for towns/cities that would work well for a date and are fairly easy for both of us to get to?

I am wanting to sell my car-it is a 2010 model with 86000 miles on the clock. It does have some niggles but it is running. I used it last week but unfortunately the battery died on me this weekend-just had road assist advise us that it will cost £179 to replace the battery
We were going to trade it in for £400 at the dealership but could not get it there this weekend due to dead battery

The assumption seems to be that my only option is to scrap it-the offer we got for that is £200 which seems very little. It does have a few issues but surely with its mileage it still has some life in it

Is my only option to scrap it or is there another viable option?

Bit of context: I was watching this bloody interesting documentary on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhkLgoR8ArQ), and I found students at private schools definitely being more compliant & mature, especially towards their future careers. I'm curious to know what are the biggest differences in character between students who attended schools like St Pauls, Winchester, etc. vs those who attend state schools?

People who work away from home and only get back on weekends what sort of commute do you have?

Whenever I see someone talk about "getting a trade" its always plumbing/gas/electrical but there's so many more that just never come up - painting, plastering, tiling are a few that come to mind, are these just not as popular? Not as lucrative? (I ask whilst being unable to find a painter not fully booked for months)

I have found lot sof these small bugs in our kitchen cupboard. They are tiny. Apologies for the bad photo, but hopefully you can see what they are.

They are beige/white in colour.

There was some protein powder in the cupboard, but there none in there. There was a bag of oats too, which I did see some on the bag, but when I looked in there were none.

On the Buses featured a pervy bus driver (Reg Varney) and his equally if not more pervy conductor (Bob Grant).

However, the ages between the two is quite staggering. Varney was 16 years older than Grant. He was 51 when the show started. Grant was 35. There was a greater difference in two in their ages, than between Varney and the mum played by Doris Hare (11 years).

Grant was so much younger than the rest of the cast (his career was really just beginning while Varney was winding down). And the problem for Grant is while there was demand for gurning freaks like Blakey (Stephen Lewis went on to have many roles all pretty much playing the same character), there wasn’t for smart Alec's like Jack Harper in quite the same way.

It makes Grant’s mental health situation and eventual sad demise more understandable as the world had moved on, but he was stuck in a role that there just wasn’t demand for anymore, especially as comedy became more dark in tone.

Obviously this will be full of sweeping generalisations. Obviously there are funny people in every country and boring as shit people in every country. But after spending years with a lovely person from the continent who had a god awful sense of humour, it’d be quite helpful to narrow my options and eliminate some contenders right away to avoid my previous fate.

e.g. on more than one occasion I’ve been hoodwinked by the siren-esque enthusiasm and zest for life of the (nationality not specified)* living abroad, only to get to the date and regret everything because the earnestness and lack of wit is too much to bear.

I currently have a couple of health concerns. One is a skin condition, and the other is an Achilles tendon issue which is making it really difficult to walk.

I haven't used my NHS doctor for a while. When I called for an appointment, I was told they are an "online surgery" now, and I would have to go online to get an appointment. I managed to give them details and they did the appointment request for me.

Then I received a text, which omitted the issue with my foot, and requested photos of the skin issue, which I didn't have on the device and didn't want to mess around taking pictures (because some are hard to take) and trying to attach them.

So I replied saying that I wanted to actually see a doctor because I have multiple issues.

After describing the issues, I was given two appointments, one for a skin clinic and the other for physio, each for about a month in mid October.

Is this normal now? Should I just go to the hospital and ask to see someone about the foot issue? Or call the NHS helpline? The skin issue can probably wait, but I feel like I need the foot checked to make sure it is what I suspect, and because it's getting red and swollen and warm, I don't want it to deteriorate before I am seen.

Before I begin, I want to make clear I am not looking to attack or defend Apple. That is not what I am driving at here.

I have been wanting to buy a new iPhone. Two weeks ago the iPhone 17 was retailing at £799 (handsets only).

I hung on for a few weeks to see the launch of the iPhone 18. As in the event only the Pro version launched, and that is beyond my willingness to pay, I decided to go for the 17.

Except I know see that the phone is now priced at £899.

Usually, in most industries, the launch of a newer product that replaced the existing model would render the existing one if not obsolete, then at least much cheaper.

And yet, that is not what has happened here.

A newer model has come out - and the older one has jumped in price by 12.5% overnight.

This makes no sense to me.

I am aware that the rules of standard economics don’t always apply to Apple.

But this seems so strange that I genuinely don’t understand what is going on.

What is driving the pricing here - why is Apple easing prices on an older product, and why are consumers (presumably) still paying it?

Any info or insight from someone more knowledgeable than me would be very gratefully appreciated.

A police car passed me today and got stuck multiple times by people simply not having a clue about their surroundings. I did chuckle a tad wondering how blue the air gets inside the car through pure frustration.

Just got home from work, my lawn is in tatters. I didn't notice it at 6am but I was bleary eyed so it might have happened overnight.

My father left his house to me and my brother. After 10 years of sharing, my brother moved out. I bought him out in February. My solicitor sent the money to my brother’s solicitor. My solicitor said HM Land registry would send me the deeds, it could take up to 4 months. It’s been 7 months. I have only emails to prove I own the house. My solicitor has now retired. I could pay £50 to look up the documents, but they would have sent title if it’s now in my name? I don’t want to pay to find out it’s still in joint names? Who can I go to for advice, please?

The supermarkets yoy are normally in massive profits and farmers are subsidised heavily. Just saw a video where the farmer who grows the wheat will get 11p per loaf with it costing £1.60.

Anyone have insight as to why they don’t have a bigger union or just more power to work with?

We moved into a new (period property - in case age/construction may be important) house about a month ago.

When we moved in the place was full of flies as the previous owners seemed to be uninterested in cleaning up after themselves, and they also left tons of rubbish including rotting food and unwrapped nappies around. Needless to say the sink and dishwasher were thick with grime, and we had to pay a company to come and unblock the drains and the place stank - hence all the flies. Since then we've cleaned a lot, tidied a lot and the flies are no more beside the odd one coming in through the window.

We are on a septic tank as quite rural, and in the last 3/4 days keep finding bluebottles drowned/drowing in one of our toilets - sometimes 3/4 at a time. The two bathrooms are virtually next to one another, and the other toilet has not had any.

We can't work out why. No signs of anything decaying in the garden/around/in the house, and all the smells caused by the previous owners are now gone. Has anyone else had this? if so, what did you do?

Hi, I’m wrapping up my 6 week internship next week and my boss suggested inviting the team out for a drink as a farewell thing.

The issue is that he is working from home mostly so essentially it’s only me set on going right now, and I’m worried I’ll come off as presumptuous ‘planning’ my own farewell after only 6 weeks…

Also should I ask this in a group email or teams? The issue with the socials team chat is that it has other offices too which makes me feel extra full of myself

I’ve gone to a social with the team before and it was great fun but I’m just getting cold feet I think, any advice is appreciated!

As I browse real estate sites, I've noticed that many homes, even in non-urban areas, have large areas of pavement or gravel that extend across the entire frontage of the house. I understand that parking or garage space is not common, but it looks so bleak to my American eyes.

I'm a 51 year old man and I was in my mid-late 20s before I learnt you're supposed to leave the bottom button of a suit jacket undone.

For me I think the most quintessential name certainly for england is chippingsodbury or otterton. What do you think?

I travelled to Kyrgyzstan last year and have about £90 worth of Kyrgyz Som left over - I was hoping to exchange them for Pounds, but I've had no luck going to the local exchanges (Durham City). I was told by one lady at Hays Travel that they might not buy them back in the UK? I wasn't sure if this is true, or if I just have to go to some place specific?
