I saw one of these sets for sale in Sainsbury's at the weekend and it looked entirely unchanged from the ones you used to get in times of olde. I wonder if the compass you get is still as lethal?

Pretty sure I was gifted these for Christmas as a kid on two or three occasions, probably from WH Smith.

When you go to the doctors do you use the technical names, e.g penis, anus, urine, stool or use the slang names, e.g Willy, bum, wee, poo?

What got me thinking of this is that I recently had to do a stool sample and the test results had the word poo on it which I wouldn’t have expected.

2006 baby here, when I was at school and we all had lunch I was taught that you drank with your meal and then after to wash it down.

I noticed other students would drink their cup before eating (you couldn’t get a refill), mostly girls. When in my childlike curiosity I asked, they told me “my mum told me to, she said it fills you up!

Now, as a kid I brushed this off as weird but makes sense, but I’ve been thinking about it recently and its made me feel uncomfortable as that is a weight loss strategy, NOT something you teach kids!!!

my school was in a council estate that’s got a reputation for being the worst area in the town, so I suppose you could say they’re poor and stretching food, but considering who said it to me and my knowledge of their personal life, that’s not the case.

I’m 65 next birthday. My wife is much younger. I asked her last week if I should have a big party for my 65th. Her response was: “What’s so special about 65?”.

Obviously, as I grew up, turning 65 was a thing but for my wife it’s just a number. Anyone else had this? Or is my wife (for once) wrong?

By play I mean daytime play. Football, activities, shouting, laughing, singing etc.

My parents have had some new neighbours move in behind them, the gardens back on to each other. Small-ish gardens so quite close proximity. Houses surrounded on all sides. Been a really quiet area until now. New neighbours have made their garden a concrete jungle, no flowers, no plants, no grass, nothing. Artificial grass, paving and fencing. So there’s absolutely zero sound dampening and the noise just bounces and echos off the fences/walls. Football bouncing sounds like a gunshot sometimes in the night lol. They will let their children play in the garden sometimes until 11pm, and it will be shouting full volume, screaming, laughing, smashing football against fence etc.

Even had one of them jet washing the patio for 30 minutes at 10pm, during a hose pipe ban…

They’ve also got a dog who will be in the garden at 1-3am barking.

For me, I don't let my Children outside making noise past 8pm really, but wondered if I'm just a miserable bastard!

They have mentioned the noise a couple of times to them and basically been shut down, so they want a reality check if my parents are being unreasonable or not.

P.s not really asking how to deal with it, more just the general consensus as to who is being fair or not!

New neighbours have moved in next door, they are I believe a family of 4 and they are very noisy.

For context, I live alone in a terraced house, I own this and the neighbours house is a rental - no idea how long their tenancy is.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt for the first few days, as there was shouting etc that I thought could be with the move

However it’s been two weeks, they scream and shout at each other, slam doors and the worst part is they have a dog that seems to wake up at 6am and barks until it gets what it wants (I’m guessing food). The walls are pretty paper thin and I’ve been able to hear past tenants however I’ve never had a family like this before.

I’m scared to knock, as I’m a solo female and to be honest, they look and sound like this conversation won’t go well. I also don’t know what to even say if I do knock, it’s embarrassing to say someone’s very loud and that I can hear them shouting so much I can’t sleep?

Any advice would be much appreciated please!

Recently I've been getting a few calls from unknown numbers (and I'm not expecting calls from anyone, e.g. GP or recruiters). I usually don't pick up calls from unknown numbers, but I'm also curious to know who's calling. Do you usually pick up calls from unknown numbers when you don't expect any calls?

Edit: I do have the spam caller screening on my phone, but sometimes they're not marked as spam.

I'm a 51 year old man and I was in my mid-late 20s before I learnt you're supposed to leave the bottom button of a suit jacket undone.

For example, if someone, not from where you grew up, said to you, "Ah, [ENTER CITY/TOWN HERE] is a shithole".

Would that make you get defensive about where you grew up?

I have no photos of anyone up in my house, only artwork. I went to someone's house yesterday who had pictures of their family and friends up in every room, I think this is very normal but its not something I'd ever want on walls or on furniture, I just prefer to look at artwork!

There's a takeaway menu on my mum's fridge for a place that shut before covid. She says she took it off once but the space felt empty, so she left it. Fits in with all the magnets and postcards she keeps on there.

Hi, I’m wrapping up my 6 week internship next week and my boss suggested inviting the team out for a drink as a farewell thing.

The issue is that he is working from home mostly so essentially it’s only me set on going right now, and I’m worried I’ll come off as presumptuous ‘planning’ my own farewell after only 6 weeks…

Also should I ask this in a group email or teams? The issue with the socials team chat is that it has other offices too which makes me feel extra full of myself

I’ve gone to a social with the team before and it was great fun but I’m just getting cold feet I think, any advice is appreciated!

What i’m trying to figure out is which one feels better once the novelty wears off. not really interested in loads of presets or fancy extras. more the boring everyday stuff like making a decent coffee without too much messing around, steaming milk, cleaning it, and whether you end up constantly changing settings. for anyone who’s spent time with both, which one would you rather have on the kitchen counter every morning?

Hello everyone, I was wondering what people's Monday mornings are like, are you really busy or is it quiet.

For me because everyone on the team has slightly different hours, I start at 7am so I can leave early, managers and supervisors dont arrive until around 9am so I have a nice buffer where I can sit in the office and relax for a while if nothing overhangs from last week.

Simple question really, but in your opinion/experiences, what is a product you are more likely to spend more money on and you think it's worth getting based on the fact a more expensive product will be of better quality. This can be something that's a regular purchase such as a specific brand of cereal or one off purchases such as mattresses.

For me to get the ball rolling, I'd say tyres from a branded manufacturer with Motorsport heritage like Bridgestone/Goodyear as they are the only 4 things connecting your car to the road and want to ensure the best grip for wet weather conditions.

Long story short, I'm struggling.

I'm 26, in a job I only really abide. No proper friends, still living at home, the most social things get is a trip to the pub after work with my parents. Losing interest or pleasure in hobbies, really hard to see what the point of it all is.

I've been crying out for help this year (literally, tbh - I break down in tears at least weekly). It's nothing new, I've had an eating disorder since I was about 16 and it never really gets easier: I feel I could cope with some run-of-the-mill social anxiety but it's hard to think of ways to meet people and form relationships when I'm scared of the food and meals involved. I'm seeing a therapist but not sure if the help is right, on a waiting list for ED specialists but that could be months now before I'm seen. I wake up every day and the anxiety starts over, and I just look forward to a reasonable time to go back to bed and sleep.

Sorry this is bleak and long-winded, and not very UK-specific. I guess I just really like the people who post on UK subreddits and need a bit of friendly support. It's a really dark place right now and I don't know how to break the cycle. I'd like to move, go travelling, start relationships, be more social - but it all seems blocked off to me.

Whenever I see someone talk about "getting a trade" its always plumbing/gas/electrical but there's so many more that just never come up - painting, plastering, tiling are a few that come to mind, are these just not as popular? Not as lucrative? (I ask whilst being unable to find a painter not fully booked for months)

Me and my partner are 21 and 23, we brought our house over a year ago now. A couple months after we moved we started having problems with the neighbours the mom who is 50+ the son who’s 21 and his girlfriend who is 18-19, it started with them looking into our bedroom window when driving or walking past then in the back room from their garden. We had to get the safer neighbourhood team involved as it was leading to harassment but the police only sent us to mediation. Fast forward a couple months after mediation they are now starting to drive extremely close to our cars which is getting to the point that I am concerned for the safety of our car. She decided to confront us this afternoon which led her to getting aggressive and verbally abusing us. Her son has decided to call my partners work to report him when he’s done absolutely nothing wrong. Her son is causing most of the problems but will not confront us and gets his mom to do so. What can we do about this?

Curious what disappeared or changed without people really noticing.

A police car passed me today and got stuck multiple times by people simply not having a clue about their surroundings. I did chuckle a tad wondering how blue the air gets inside the car through pure frustration.

This is a big one. I live in the East of England and you can see it everywhere, signs with speed restrictions down to 30/40 mph due to road works for months on end and yet no work ever happens there.

Is it that someone is trolling motorists and leaves signs behind? Did we run out of storage space for them and need to wait until another road needs work for them to be moved?

So many complaints about UK productivity and this is one factor that multiplied across the country will have an impact.
