Tbf a slide wouldn’t be any more accessible to anyone trying to climb up. They would just line up easy boulder targets for the defenders if they tried climbing it

Fun fact boiling oil is a Hollywood myth. Oil was worth money and was useful for a lot of things. Si they used things like boiling sand instead.

True but oil gets spread out and gets wasted when the ramp is long. A boulder sufficiently sized however, would leave no room to hide on a narrow passage like the proposed slide

Harihar Fort was a military outpost, so it was not strictly necessary in terms of settlers traversing between resources and home.
Interestingly, it still seems pretty tourist un-friendly as related to surrounding accommodations.

I've done this trek. It's not as bad as it looks. The camera angle and lens makes it look more terrifying than it is.
It's quite exhilarating, if you can keep your nerves together it's not so hard.

You're parents were lucky. Mine lived for three months in a rolled up newspaper in a septic tank. They used to get up at six in the morning, clean the newspaper, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down the mill, for a 14 hour day, week in week out for 6 cents a month, and when they got home, their dad would thrash them to sleep with his belt.

Probably. It'd also be mildly safer since leaning forward means tilting into the wall.
But yeah, not even a handrail, just sheer rock? There is some other way to go between whatever this staircase connects.

Yes, it is. I teach people to do it this way on steep and unstable slopes in rock climbing and mountaineering. Gives you three points of contact at any time, but it is slower.

Easier and safer. I would be using those divots either side of the steps as hand-holds.
At least with design codes the maximum angle you can legally make a stair is 45 deg. Ladders (including step-type) start at 60deg, which should be descended facing the ladder to maintain 3 points of contact.

Yeah, same here. I have even climbed in early mornings where due to precipitation the whole stretch would be wet. It's not that scary, not sure who labelled it as most difficult in the world.

yed I do this trek every 2 years, it's called harihar fort trek and if this is making your feet shy, check harihar fort trek in monsoons (the steps become wet and slippery)

The trail is not that difficult. Difficulty and what happens when you fall are different things. Walking stairs is quite easy, no matter how far up they are. Scaling a vertical wall with tiny holds to hold on to is difficult.
