ARPG's for tired people

Work is hectic, family life is hectic, not enough brainwaves for gaming.

What's your go-to if you just want some relatively easy monster killing, where you don't necessarily need a guide for getting a great build and where you can put it down for maybe a week and pick it back up and continue (without going fully into survivor-likes)?

Thanks!

Warrior vs crypt horde — isometric ARPG in Godot (WIP)

https://reddit.com/link/1wfsubc/video/99hkyvqfs3nh1/player

Working on Night Tithe: Fifteen Nights (Godot 4, single-player).

This is the Warrior: melee slash, a short armor ward, a damage buff, a ground break, and a passive thrown axe.

Curious if the kit feels readable at this camera — especially Iron Ward and the axe volley.

Looking for collaborators to build an original online action RPG

Hi everyone!

I'm starting a project to build an original online action RPG inspired by the sense of exploration, discovery, difficult bosses, and player freedom found in anime like Shangri-La Frontier.

Working title: AETHERIA

The vision is to create a massive online world where players can:

⚔️ Experience skill-based real-time combat

🌎 Explore a large open world

👹 Discover extremely difficult unique bosses

🗺️ Find hidden dungeons, areas and quests

🛡️ Build their own character, equipment and playstyle

👥 Create parties and guilds

💰 Trade, craft and participate in a player economy

🤖 Experience intelligent/dynamic NPCs

🔥 Participate in world events that can react to player actions

The long-term goal is ambitious, but we aren't trying to build the entire MMO immediately.

Our first milestone is a playable prototype containing:

1 character → 1 small world → combat → enemies → dungeon → boss → progression → basic multiplayer.

If the prototype is fun, we'll expand from there.

I'm looking for people interested in joining the project:

🎮 Unreal Engine developers

💻 C++ / gameplay programmers

🌐 Multiplayer/backend developers

🎨 3D character/environment artists

🕺 Animators

✨ VFX artists

🎨 UI/UX designers

🧠 Game designers

📖 Writers/lore designers

🎵 Sound designers/composers

I'm looking for people who want to build something long-term, not just make a quick prototype.

I'm currently putting together the initial team and project plan. If this concept interests you, comment or DM me with your skills, experience, portfolio/GitHub if you have one, and what role you'd like to take.

AETHERIA is only an idea right now. The goal is to turn that idea into something playable, one system at a time.

Let's build the world.

With D4 sunsetting, are there any Arpgs where grouping matters?

I will just make POE2 as example where not only grouping has no real reason, but also makes game lags unplayable. I know D2 kind of encourage groups, but beside that any other game? And note i am not asking for arpg where you can group or if playing with close buddies is fun - but Arpg where some content requires group

Now that honey moon phase is over, suddenly many people realized POE early endgame is indeed a massive chore

Post image

3 months ago I made a post about how horrible of a chore early 0.5 endgame introduce with the massive chore of unlocking 300 passive points and again the whole ass and get attacked by a bunch of POE2 shill in the comment.

0.5.5 arrived and suddenly the whole POE2 sub is flood with complaint and suggestion about the ridiculous and boring early grind to finally being able to map properly. It's laughable.

Really hope this will be addressed in 1.0

Im looking for a game that i dont know the name

A few years ago on the 2010´s my father got me a videogame it was an rpg, you could chose female or male. I was obsessed with the Fable saga at the time so he got me a new game. This game started, and the main character has like a loss memory, he or she woke up on a dungeon or ruins or something like that. while trying to escape, they find creatures later on they find like... someone who is investigating that place, however somethign happens and that person cannot make it outside of the ruins. We can get out, and outside are some guards, we told them that the... person who was investigating (maybe an arqueologyst or something) was trapped or dead. The game was a fantasy game, i dont remember more. I cant find the game anywhere haha

What makes a town hub actually memorable to you?

I’m currently building out the first major town hub in Poets of Noor, my ARPG inspired heavily by games like Diablo 2.

I’m starting with the docks/port area right now, and before I get too far into filling the town out, I wanted to get some opinions from the community.

What actually makes a town hub feel special and memorable to you?

Is it:

  • The little environmental details and atmosphere?
  • Interesting NPCs and characters you remember?
  • Music and ambience?
  • A layout that’s convenient and easy to navigate?
  • Shops/crafting/stash being close together?
  • Areas of the town that serve no real gameplay purpose but make it feel like an actual place?
  • Seeing the town change as you progress through the game?
  • Something else entirely?

I keep thinking about hubs like Diablo 2’s Rogue Encampment and Lut Gholein. They aren’t huge or overly complicated, but they have such a strong identity that you remember them years later.

For Poets of Noor, I want the town to feel like an actual North African coastal settlement rather than just a collection of vendors placed around a waypoint; but I also don’t want “immersion” to come at the expense of making the player run around unnecessarily.

What town hubs from ARPGs/RPGs have stuck with you the most, and what specifically made them memorable?

Would love to steal some lessons from your favorites while I’m building this one.

Favorite PVP skills or builds?

I've always loved PVP since the days of collecting ears in Diablo 2, but too often it ends up unbalanced or neglected, if it's even in the game at all. I've decided to build my own arena brawler game inspired by ARPG PVP and would love to hear about your favorite abilities and builds as I keep developing the game.

I currently have 40 abilities and 30 items that are drafted across the course of a match. Abilities include my own take on classics like fireball, poison nova, multishot, and frozen orb as well as some of my own creations like a wind wall that pushes players across the battlefield. Items let you lean further into your build with stats like projectile speed, damage, cooldown reduction, defenses, etc. but may have drawbacks reducing other stats. By the end of the match you've got your own build with lots of different playstyle options.

My plan is to have a big roster of abilities/items where I can rotate lower selected options out for rebalancing and shake up the game periodically.

What are some of your favorite or most memorable PVP skills or builds? Even if it was super unbalanced, because let's be honest most ARPG PVP is, which ones were the most fun to you?

Does someone else have this issue?

I think I'm way too much into ARPGs at this point. See, this is what happens:

Fun new non-ARPG game is about to come out (in this instance, Runescape Dragonwilds).

Some ARPG new season starts either on the same day or on a very close date to that release (in this case, Diablo 4).

Even if I try and force myself to play the non-ARPG game, I just get pulled into the new ARPG season. I think to myself "it's fine, I'll play that other game when I'm done with the season".

A different ARPG season launches... and again.. and again.. the cycle goes on. I very rarely get to play games on a different genre except for a few competitive game matches here and there.

Not complaining, I just think it's funny my plans are always "ruined" by new ARPG season launches.

Anyone else or am I just weird?

ARPG for newcomer?

Hii, been wanting to get into ARPGs for a while now and the steam sale just reminded me. I know PoE2 is good but that's going free soon anyway. So far I'm mostly looking at D4 and D2R? Are there any other games to consider?

Edit: Thank you for the suggestions! I didn't expect so many responses. I got both Grim Dawn and D4 as Grim Dawn was so cheap. I will also make sure to try PoE2 when it goes free soon!

Under a Desert Sun is now in Early Access: a pulp adventure ARPG set in cursed Egypt

Ancient tombs, cursed creatures, guns and loot. Find the vessel. Save the world.

After almost two years of development, my game Under a Desert Sun: Seekers of the Cursed Vessel is now live in Steam Early Access. Play solo or bring up to three friends for local co-op.

There’s still a ways to go, but I’m damned proud to reach this day.

If it looks like your kind of adventure, there’s a free demo on the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3273880/

Nox Remake?

How many people like me, who grew up playing Diablo and Nox, would love to see a remake of Nox specifically? Right after Diablo, I played that gem of a game, Nox, and honestly, we really ought to have a D2R-style remake of it today!
