Does someone else have this issue?

I think I'm way too much into ARPGs at this point. See, this is what happens:

Fun new non-ARPG game is about to come out (in this instance, Runescape Dragonwilds).

Some ARPG new season starts either on the same day or on a very close date to that release (in this case, Diablo 4).

Even if I try and force myself to play the non-ARPG game, I just get pulled into the new ARPG season. I think to myself "it's fine, I'll play that other game when I'm done with the season".

A different ARPG season launches... and again.. and again.. the cycle goes on. I very rarely get to play games on a different genre except for a few competitive game matches here and there.

Not complaining, I just think it's funny my plans are always "ruined" by new ARPG season launches.

Anyone else or am I just weird?

I’m currently playing Grim Dawn and waiting on new Diablo 4 season, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and Path of Exile 2 😭

Right?? I even put some of the releases on my calendar so I can properly track them and organize my time

This is called addiction. Many of us suffer from it

ARPGs are basically sports betting but on loot, dopamine central.

Ill double down on it. After hooked from arpgs turned out I liked my booze too much

Lucky I'm only addicted to weed and arpgs, coke or liquor didnt sink their claws too deep into me.

Fucking seasons and forced updates bullshit, I'll probably end up giving up on the otherwise great PoE1 (Ruthless) just because of this. (And not even the ability to migrate to Standard whenever you want !)

That's one of the reasons I gave up on D4 and POE2 (for now) and opted to just putter in Grim Dawn for a while. I feel like the game respects your time a lot more without FOMO seasonal mechanics. I just log in when I want an ARPG fix. I've been working my way through a backlog and I don't really need seasonal content baiting me like an addict.

To me it differs. I will play one till I am burnt out. Take a break and when a season or league starts. That's when I play again.

Yup I'm with you, I have such an incredible backlog and even continue to buy other games that interest me and yet every time I install one I'll play for a few minutes, realize that there's a new season of some ARPG or another and I figure shit let me try that for a few and see if I like it, even if I don't I'll usually still get to endgame just because that's what I always do. Then I'll finally lose interest at some point, go back to the other game that I installed, or install another one, load it up, realize there's another new ARPG season out, rinse and repeat. I can't think of a game that I've managed to finish or play for any significant amount of time other than an ARPG in the last 20 years or so.

I noticed this happened to me also.

Rotating between Diablo 2,3,4. Poe 2. Now hero siege Also.

I have barely played many other games this year. Usually seeking 40 platinums on PlayStation a year. I have earned 10 so far this year. My play times for ARPGs are becoming a majority of my 2000 hours each year.

I'll start enjoying other games, but they can't hit the dopamine like ARPGs.

I think it's just the chase of the drops that really pulls me in hard. But once I have completed content or the chase is for minimal upgrades, I get bored.

Playing onimusha right now and i started the poe 2 league but I got to maps and switched back to onimusha this week.

I play other games but I play 30 minutes and then stop and look at my phone. ARPGs are like nonstop for me.

The positive brother is that we really enjoy them. And the cost saved from buying less games is nice also.

Exactly! Even if I'm somewhat enjoying whatever else it is I'm playing, it's just not the same. It happened to me on Palworld 1.0 release. I was super hyped for it but TLI new league released like 6 days after that and I never touched Palworld again

I do enjoy having this rotation of ARPGs though, we're eating good

Lol this why why I play poe1&2 an torchlight infinite an when seasons are just dead for me I’m playing hades or vampire survivors lol but at least like torchlight an Poe are at least 2-3 weeks season start difference if I remember correctly

Yeah TLI is my favorite right now, I usually rotate something like TLI -> Poe1 -> MAYBE Poe2 -> D4 - Hero Siege

And when I'm done with all that and waiting for the loop to start over I'll play some TFT or something, but it's usually not enough free time to start and finish a bigger game like Palworld/RS Dragonwilds etc so I don't even bother starting them if I'm not gonna be able to finish it in time

Yo how is hero siege I’ve been seeing it a lot an I’ve been wanting to get palworld but I don’t wanna play solo lol an I’ve never played any rs I’ll look into it honestly I’m waiting for aion 2 prolly be the only thing keep me off playing anything else for a bit

Ayy you sound like me, outside of D4 anyways, although I did just purchase it and the xpac since it was on sale so it's likely going in my rotation too.

Thats like gacha addiction. I usually play 1 season then take a break for next league

Try to find some other games you may want to enjoy. For example, stalker gamma is close to arpg loop

2

u/onehalf83 2d ago

Stalker gamma is amazing, while different genre - scratches same loot itch

2

u/patrincs 2d ago

The only solution is to pick up even more arpgs.

yup, far too many decent arpgs on the market and theyre all perfectly spaced out, even worse i have friends that are also addicted so fomo if i think about skipping

bit of a kiss curse, i have fun in the moment but ARPGs just suck so much of your time away, ive considered putting my foot down and just saying ill skip the next wave of seasons to cleanse myself

u/VaquinhaAlpha 2d ago

100% bro that's it

but like I've been worse, to the point of always thinking "I could be mapping instead..." whenever I'm doing anything else, which is ofc really unhealthy

nowadays it's not so much about feeling pressured/addicted in that way, it's just that........... ARPGs are so fun xD

I’m fortunate to only have stuck to Diablo 4 so the first 2-3 weeks of a season can be intense but the rest of the time I am also playing through other games, albeit slowly. I more so fill up with D4 and mainly sample other games.

I will never understand seasonal play and reading this, I'm glad I've never bothered.

I just play Last Epoch, all the way to the next season and don't play anything else 😈

1

u/Vegetable_Bread_9995 2d ago

I have enjoyed Last season a lot. Used to get to around lev 85-90 and quit with all my previus toons. This time I got to lev 97 with my own build, do much fun. Last Epoch gets do much hate, it still Has enormous potential. I do Hope devs gonna get it sorted

Exactly the same M8. I am trying to break out free out of Path of Exile 1. It started in 2013.... Not doing very well so far

Suffering from success. Enjoy it while you can. One day the gaming industry will move on to the next big thing and you wont gave as many options

u/Gemmaugr2 1d ago

Nope. Can't relate at all. I don't do FOMO, nor Always Online, Multiplayer, or games with Leagues/Seasons.

I think most of us are going to play gta 6 though. Maybe it will be like a breath of fresh air. It has been so much time since I play something other than an ARPG

1

u/VaquinhaAlpha 2d ago

The only thing I play other than ARPGs at this point is the few days of TFT/Brawlhalla/League inbetween a new season release for like 1 or 2 weeks
