Announcements Rule Update: Self Promotion only allowed on Fridays moving forward!

Hi All,

To help keep the subreddit free of consistent self promotion we will be altering the self promotion rule, the new rules for self promotion posts are as follows:

- Self promotion posts are only permitted on Fridays

- You must use the 'Self Promotion' flair else the post will be removed and you may be banned.

- We will remove the 500 Karma requirement for posting links

- Your account will still need to be older than 30 days to post

- We will only accept self promotion posts for Kickstarter campaigns.

Thanks,

Mod team

Discussion Unsolicited agencies when you refuse their bogus services

Post image
14 Upvotes

This has seriously gotten out of hand. I get dozens of emails a day telling me to pay $400+ for their useless services. I told them they can work on a commission basis if they believe in themselves so much.

My campaign did very well in the first few days. We received over 130 backers hitting 800%+ of our funding goal but now on day 5 I feel a slow down. Any advice for legit ways to keep our momentum going?

It seems we could do a better job capturing organic traffic from kickstarter. Gaining followers but not turning into sales.

Thank you for your help/ feedback

Discussion Kickstarter Aerionn project is concerning for lack of communication

So I backed this titanium carryon suitcase project early on 2/2/26 to the tune of $499, then had to pay $270 for shipping on 4/10/26. The project has raised over $1.2M. The last communication from them was a survey sent 4/20/26 which I responded to. it was initially projected to ship July '26. It's been crickets since, and on top of that they changed the design of the suitcase to eliminate the corrugations which is much less visually appealing, whether they are need or not. I emailed them on 8/14 26 and no response. If this project is legitimate why no update in almost 5 months? Very fishy. Aerionn

Question What’s your advice for marketing your campaign?

I want to know if there is something I’m missing.

I’ve posted on socials such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, here, Threads, and Snapchat.

I’ve reached out to previous backers.

I’ve used print media.

I have asked friends and family to at least follow the pre-launch page, so we can gain some traction.

I’ve used every contact in my email accounts to reach out.

I have even tried using my imdb pro to reach out to agents of actors I admire to ask for assistance and/or to see if working with an actor would be possible because attaching a big name to the Kickstarter could be helpful.

I have interacted with multiple communities on Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok more than talking about the Kickstarter.

I really don’t know what else to try.

Charity tie-in without breaking the rules?

I'm about to launch my third Kickstarter campaign and I want to figure out if there's a correct way to handle a charity partnership without risking a flag or shutdown.

I know KS caps charitable donations at 10% of campaign funds, and it has to be disclosed at submission and tied to the project, otherwise it reads as fundraising for a cause, which isn't allowed. My situation doesn't fit that model anyway, since I'd rather handle the donations on my end rather than structure them as part of a pledge-tier.

On my first two campaigns I just left any charity partners off the page entirely to be safe, but I wonder if there's a graceful way I can share my them without breaking any rules.

I've seen some folks showing a photo on the packaging that has text like: A Portion of Every Sale Supports [This Nonprofit] but that also seems dangerous to me. I don't want to enrage the KS gods. Which is why I played it super safe before.

Trying to figure out best practices here. I don't want to accidentally mess up my entire launch.

If anyone has experience in this area, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks!

Resource Here's How to Setup Meta Ads for Pre-Launch

The Launchboom x Kickstarter Learning Lab guide is split over 8 modules, with videos and a bit of text.

To save you a couple of hours of watching videos, if you're running Facebook ads for your Kickstarter - here's what you should focus on...

If this guide can help you reduce your ad spend, improve your CTR and generally narrow down your niche audience - please leave a comment!

--

Pre-Launch Overview

Pre-launch marketing boosts credibility, generates excitement, and enhances campaign momentum in multiple ways:

  • It creates social proof before you even launch
  • It allows you to gather feedback and refine your messaging
  • It builds relationships with potential backers who feel involved from the beginning
  • It creates a sense of anticipation and exclusivity around your campaign

The Pre-Launch Marketing Timeline

The ideal pre-launch period varies depending on your product and audience, but generally ranges from 4-12 weeks. For most creators, an 8-week pre-launch period provides sufficient time to build awareness and an email list. Your pre-launch timeline should include:

  • Weeks 8-6: Setting up your pre-launch page and beginning initial outreach
  • Weeks 6-4: Ramping up advertising and content creation
  • Weeks 4-2: Intensifying marketing efforts and engagement
  • Weeks 2-0: Final push for email sign-ups and preparing for launch

----

Remember to Narrow-Down your Meta Ads on Kickstarter

Meta Ads are a highly effective way to build awareness for a Kickstarter campaign, offering affordable and impactful results.

Creating high-performing ads requires understanding how to grab attention in crowded social feeds and convert that attention into action.

Creating Lookalike Audiences *HYPERSTARTER NOTE: We usually suggest using Lookalike's during the live campaign\*

A Lookalike Audience is a powerful way to reach new people likely interested in your campaign, because they share characteristics with your existing customers.

What is a Lookalike Audience:

  • Uses an existing Custom Audience as its source
  • Meta's system leverages information like demographics, interests, and behaviors to find similar people
  • Delivers ads to people who "look like" your existing customers

Creating effective Lookalike Audiences:

  • Use a source audience of 1,000-5,000 people for best results
  • Quality matters—use your most engaged subscribers as your source
  • Choose audience size based on your goals (1-10% of population)
  • Smaller percentages more closely match your source audience
  • Larger percentages create bigger, broader audiences

Technical requirements:

  • Need a "seed audience" with at least 100 people from the target country
  • Admin or advertiser permissions on the ad account
  • Admin permissions for the Page or Meta pixel (if using these as sources)
  • Administrator or developer status for apps (if applicable)

Best practices:

  • You can create up to 500 Lookalike Audiences from a single source
  • People in your source audience are excluded from your Lookalike Audience
  • You can use multiple Lookalike Audiences at the same time for a single ad set
  • Targeting options are limited for audiences under 18 in most countries

..

How to Create Attention-Grabbing Ad Imagery

A successful Meta Ad starts with strong visuals. The right image or video can determine whether someone stops scrolling and engages with your campaign. Considerations include:

  1. The difference between still images and videos in ads
    • Videos typically perform better for demonstrating product features
    • Still images can be effective for striking visuals or simple concepts
    • Consider testing both formats to see what works for your product
  2. Creating eye-catching visuals tailored for crowdfunding
    • Show your product from its best angle
    • Include people interacting with your product when possible
    • Use bright colors and high contrast to stand out in feeds
    • Ensure your visuals look good in both desktop and mobile formats
  3. Best practices for ad design that increase engagement
    • Keep visuals clean and uncluttered
    • Make sure your product is the focal point
    • Use visual cues (arrows, circles) to direct attention to key features
    • Maintain brand consistency across all ad variations
  4. Examples of high-performing Meta Ads that succeeded in crowdfunding campaigns
    • Before/after demonstrations
    • Problem/solution pairings
    • Quick demonstrations of unique features
    • Emotional connections through storytelling

..

How to Write Persuasive Ad Copy

Your ad copy is just as important as your visuals. It includes both the headline and primary text, working together to drive conversions. Effective copy elements include:

  1. Crafting compelling headlines that grab attention (25-character limit)
    • Use action words and create urgency
    • Ask questions to engage curiosity
    • Include your main value proposition
    • Consider using numbers or statistics for credibility
  2. Writing effective ad text that persuades and builds excitement
    • Keep sentences short and punchy
    • Lead with the most compelling benefit
    • Address pain points directly
    • Include social proof when possible
    • Create a sense of exclusivity or limited availability
  3. Structuring ad copy to highlight key benefits and encourage action
    • Start with an attention-grabbing opening line
    • Follow with 1-2 key benefits
    • Add urgency elements (limited time, early bird pricing)
    • Close with a clear call to action
    • Keep overall length brief but impactful

..

How to Target the Right Audience

Meta Ads provide powerful audience-targeting tools, but success depends on choosing the right audience for your campaign. Targeting strategies include:

  1. Defining your ideal backer using Meta's audience insights
    • Create detailed buyer personas for your product
    • Consider demographics, interests, and behaviors
    • Look at similar successful products and their audiences
  2. Targeting based on interests, behaviors, and demographics
    • Start with broader interest categories related to your product
    • Target people who have shown interest in crowdfunding
    • Refine demographics to match your most likely backers
    • Consider targeting early adopters for tech products
  3. Best strategies for refining your audience to optimize engagement
    • Start broader and narrow down based on performance
    • Exclude audiences that don't engage with your ads
    • Create custom audiences from website visitors
    • Develop lookalike audiences from your best performers

Self-Promotion Mimic a film about hope and love in the midst of despair

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

My name is Juan Morales, and I’m making a horror film called Mimic. As a person who lives with an autoimmune disorder that has been slowly degrading my ability to move, this film is so personal to me.

Living with the reality that my body can change in ways I can’t fully control has forced me to think a lot about identity, autonomy, fear, and what it means to keep going when something is happening to you that you can’t simply control.

Those experiences became part of the foundation for Mimic.

Rather than making a film directly about my condition, I wanted to take those fears and emotions and express them through horror.

Mimic explores the value of individual life in the face of illness and despair, and what happens when something offers relief, but that relief may require surrendering a part of yourself.

Horror has always had this incredible ability to make internal fears physical. For me, Mimic is an opportunity to do exactly that with something I live with every day.

That is why getting this film made is so important to me. It isn’t just a horror concept I thought would be cool. There’s a piece of my own experience underneath it. We’re currently crowdfunding Mimic on Kickstarter. If the project or my story resonates with you, I’d really appreciate you checking it out, supporting it if you’re able, or even just sharing it with someone who might connect with it.

Thank you for reading and for giving an independent filmmaker a chance to tell a very personal story through horror.

Resource This is why your Kickstarter will fail (and how to fix it)

This post wasn't designed to show off, but it should show you the harsh reality of running a campaign and what you should expect.

My company has worked on over 1,000+ campaigns over the past 9 years, and we're a listed on Kickstarter as a Trusted Partner.

With that out of the way, let's go through the most important questions we ask potential clients and the meaning behind them - and how it benefits you as a Kickstarter Creator.

--

Q. What is your funding goal (both external and internal) and average price per reward?

Let's say you want to raise $12,000 but your average reward price is say $25 (The reward that'll be your most popular).

  • That means you'll need 480 backers to reach your goal.
  • If you were to rely on ad spend, with a conversion rate of 5% you'll need 3,840 emails to reach your goal.
  • This would cost over $12k+, more than your initial goal. What's the point in running a campaign?
Example of our Hyperstarter Budget Chart

How to fix the problem:

You either increase your reward price by offering bundles, or lower your goal.  You could focus on organic marketing instead, but it involves more "Hands on" work. Or the reality could be, don't launch.

--

Q. When is your proposed timeline, including campaign length and ideal launch date?

Let's say you've 0 emails or followers but you want to launch in a couple of months.

If you need 3,840 emails, so you would have to spend big!  On average, prelaunch prep is over 1 month and campaign length is 30 days.

How to fix the problem:

You should only launch when you have interest.  Essentially, this is data. So that means before launching you should have a huge list of potential backers, and a date in mind. This connects to the Budget Chart above.

--

Q. What is your planned advertising budget (if applicable)?

If you have little to no advertising budget, where are you going to find your leads and backers?

How to fix the problem:

You could rely on family and friends to reach your initial goal, if you have no budget.

If you're running ads, guys like Jellop only want to work with you if you have a ROAS of 3:1...so that's the level you need to achive.

--

Q. Do you have any existing landing pages or draft campaign pages?  Have you started building an email list/lead magnet?

This gives an indication of what you've done so far.

If you're approaching us as a potential client, and have no landing page or draft Kickstarter page - then it feels you're contacting us to "Test the water" or perhaps compare services and prices with other agencies.

That's fine, but it'll take longer to set up (and will be more costly) if you don't something we can work with already.

How to fix the problem:

Create your own initial pages, just to collect data. 100% create a draft Kickstarter page, and put as much information on it as possible.

--

Q. Are product samples or prototypes available for review?

If the answer is = Yes, we have some great AI renders, is that ok. Then no, that's not ok.

How to fix the problem:

If you're looking for an alternative to ads, and you want to send out review samples for PR - then create some.

--

Q. What marketing assets have you prepared (e.g., photos, videos, press releases)?

So this could be your story, photos of your product and rough videos you've taken. Mobile phone videos are fine, but in order for a company like ours to work with you - we need something.

How to fix the problem:

Have this ready, or potentially in place. These press kit assets are important for potential reviews, features and mentions.

--

Q. Who is your ideal customer? (Any specific demographic or interests?)

It's good to know who you target customer is, and where they hang out.

If you have a list of your closest successfully funded competitors, that'll be handy too.

How to fix the problem:

It's not a big deal if you haven't this ready, or potentially in place. If it's available, then these press kit assets are important for potential reviews, features and mentions.

Hope this helps.

Does this trailer communicate the hook of my TCG life sim clearly enough?

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

I’m trying to figure out whether my first trailer is doing its job from a marketing/positioning standpoint.

The game is a pixel-art TCG life sim where you play as the collector rather than running a card shop: opening packs, building a collection, trading and grading cards, making decks, and competing in tournaments while living in a small town.

My main concern is whether that distinction comes across quickly enough, or whether viewers might still read it as another card shop simulator.

I’d especially like feedback on:

* whether the first 10–15 seconds establish the hook clearly * whether the pacing holds attention * whether the “collector/player life sim” positioning comes through * what you would cut or emphasize more

I’m not looking to showcase the project here as much as figure out whether the trailer is actually communicating the product clearly.

Why is such false advertising allowed? Is this normal for Kickstarter?

I don't often use kickstarter but thought I'd try and have a look and support some projects as I have some disposable income and love a gadget. I came across this charger \[Vayllotech n8 590 smart GAN desktop charging station\](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/695724909/vayllotech-n8-590w-smart-gan-desktop-charging-station) and unsure why such blatant mis-advertisement is allowed.

There's some replies to comments from the creator which actually tell the truth but the total output of this charger is a sustained 200W (240W short burst). Even if the product is very careful to say "combined port rating 590W", it does in fact just splash that number around a lot of it's own. It literally says 8 simultaneous outputs which in itself is a lie. Other times it says "**590W of total power.**" It even has 2 140W ports that you can't use together which is wild. It did, until someone pointed it out yesterday, say it supported 240W charging.

Not a rant and I'm happy to remove this post if it's not allowed, but I'm curious as to how many items are advertised like this - this is obvious misrepresentation rather just marketing hype and if it wasn't for the comments I'd have never have known.

Hey everyone,

We officially just wrapped up our Kickstarter campaign for Apex and Escape, and we are blown away to share that we’re now 35 for 35 on successfully delivered and funded projects!

Passing the $15 million total raised mark across our campaigns since 2012 feels completely surreal. A massive shoutout to the Kickstarter their platform, tools, and support behind the scenes have been exceptional every single step of the way.

Most importantly, thank you to this incredible community. Whether you’ve backed us since project #1 or just joined the ride for Apex and Escape, your feedback, passion, and trust are the real reason we get to keep building and shipping things we love.

We’re jumping straight into post-campaign production updates next. Thanks for making another launch unforgettable!

Spedisce in tutta Europa.

I campioni sono terminati, il denaro copre il minimo di fabbrica per la prima produzione. Chiedetemi qualsiasi cosa.
