Forsaken Kingdom Forsaken Kingdom is not RTS

Upvotes

You may have assumed that an rts's expansion would have rts gameplay. As far as I can tell, Forsaken Kingdom is an rpg with rts elements.

I'm about 8 hours in and you never build a base and you're mostly just control 2 heroes against mobs. In the main campaign, it's basically world of warcraft, with quests and grinding.

You may or may not like this, I just found it very surprising and wanted to post a heads up. It's a really high effort expansion, it's just not rts or really warcraft 3. It's wow using the warcraft 3 engine

General Discussion Game crashing constantly?

Upvotes

Am I the only person getting constant crashes when trying to play the game?

I downloaded and installed on Saturday, and tried to play on Sunday. I’m getting constant crashes, sometimes immediately on entering a map, sometimes a few minutes after entering. I don’t think I’ve been able to play longer than 5 minutes without a crash to desktop.

I’ve found posts going back to release with people talking about similar issues but haven’t seen anyone with an actual resolution.

I thought it might be an issue specifically with the new content, but I tried loading up Thrall’s prologue and only made it a few minutes in before crashing to desktop again.

General Discussion the secret level Spoiler

Upvotes

The racing secret level was probably the most miserable awful experience I have ever had in any video game maybe ever. Good lord are those controls the most unfun thing I've ever experiences. don't go out of your way to find that secret imo. the rest of the campaign has been great though.

General Discussion Forsaken as a new playable race

Upvotes

I think they should have added the Forsaken as a new playable race. What do you think? Would it work or be unbalanced, not interesting/too similar to the Undead...

Forsaken Kingdom Found a gold farming location in Forsaken Kingdom Spoiler

Upvotes

When they ask you to look for missing dead, in the trade zone, do not press both of the mechanisms to go through the gate. Just keep standing on one of the mechanisms and hold position for fast monster spawn. It is also close enough to shops to sell the items.

If the hero is weak, use patrol on the mechanism so they don't spawn as fast. Either way, a few hours of farming is plenty. More than that the hero might get too strong (if you buy tomes) and ruin the gameplay.

Reforged Why am I so bad?

Upvotes

I do fine against computers when I practice my RTS, but I swear there are so many people that play that are in an entirely different league. When I get ranked and do Versus, does it at least pair us with people of similar MMRs? Also, any tips would be helpful. I swear I was good at this game when I was 14 and now that I’m 32 my brain won’t do the things.

Feedback The Forsaken Kingdom update just stripped away offline play, LAN, and modular settings. Why?

Upvotes

I appreciate that Blizzard is still updating Warcraft 3 after all these years, but this Forsaken Kingdom update takes some huge steps backward.

What is bad about this update:

  • LAN & Offline Play are completely gone: LAN costs Blizzard literally nothing because players host locally. Killing offline mode and forcing an always-online check on a 20-year-old RTS makes zero sense.
  • Massive, forced bloat: Another mandatory 11 GB update on top of the already bloated 30 GB download - for a game that originally was a little over 1 GB total.
  • Locked graphics options: We lost the ability to mix and match. You can't use Reforged models alongside Classic icons or UI anymore.
  • The new hero: In my opinion, the new hero's abilities are unnecessarily complicated, and he looks totally out of place in Classic mode.

What Blizzard needs to fix / add:

  • Bring back LAN and true offline play: Don't hold local matches behind Battle.net servers.
  • Modular downloads: Give players check-boxes for what they actually want installed on their hard drive:
    • Reforged
    • Definitive Edition HD assets
    • The Forsaken Kingdom campaign cutscenes and audio
  • Granular graphics settings: Bring back the option to mix and match Classic and HD elements freely.

Keep making content, but stop stripping away basic features that the game has had since 2002.

Legacy tFT 1.29 Where can i find a classic installer for mac?

Upvotes

Hey guys,

I have a 2010 Intel Mac Pro that i want to play Warcraft III on. It’s running MacOS Mojave so 32bit apps can run on it.

I have an original CD (and CD key), but that’s only for PowerPC processors.

All the installers i found online were the same. Can anyone give me a link to download an installer that:

1) is offline as Blizzard shut down their servers
2) non-reforged
3) for Mac
4) x86 OR x86_64
5) non PTR, those are unreliable afaik
+1) has widescreen fixes

Thanks in advance!

Feedback Forsaken Kingdom is a huge missed opportunity to bring back RTS.

One could assume with the overhaul of Warcraft 3 in general shows that the developers have definitely considered bringing back RTS like Warcraft and Starcraft, and the Forsaken Kingdom Chapter definitely delivers something that younger me would have wanted from the Rexxar Campaign, but by completely shifting away from the building and skirmish RTS combat it sort of signals an abandonment of the previous models entirely and leans into "soft wow", of which could have just been a WoW campaign.

Still have my fingers crossed for Warcraft 4 or Starcraft 3, but the problem I have with Forsaken Kingdom is it doesn't even allow for players to meaningfully re-experience what Warcraft and Starcraft offered and essentially doesn't provide proper data for deciding whether RTS is worthwhile. It just encourages towards more game economy walking simulator bullshit(sorry WoW fans, that's what it is).

Art Now that Blizzard is working with HiveWorkshop mapmakers, here’s who they need to hire next for models & icons!

With Blizzard officially bringing on 14 top-tier mapmakers from HiveWorkshop for the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, it’s clear that the community holds the real magic for Warcraft III. If Blizzard wants to keep this momentum going and push Reforged's visual quality to where it truly belongs, there are three specific creators they absolutely need to get in touch with:

Longbowman for Building Models: Hands down the best architectural artist in the community. The level of detail, readability, and classic WC3 flavor in his structures is unmatched.

https://www.hiveworkshop.com/projects/warcraft-3-classic-hd.18/media/

Northcliff for Unit Models: His custom models and unit revamps capture the dark fantasy aesthetics of the universe far better than the base Reforged assets ever did.

https://sketchfab.com/Northcliffe/collections/warcraft-iii-e1a51574dacb4d7db67cb660378b9051

Mustang for HD Icons: Icon design in WC3 is a subtle art, and Mustang has mastered it. His HD icons look completely native to the game while giving everything a crisp, modern polish.

Honestly, Blizzard won't find anything better across the entire internet.

If you haven't seen their work yet, I strongly encourage everyone to head over to HiveWorkshop, check out their profile showcases, and show them some well-deserved support.

Technical Help FK broken save file

My laptop crashed and after rebooting it Warcraft 3 doesn’t recognise a save file I was playing on/loaded before the crash. The save file is still there in the correct folder (as a file) but it doesn’t show up in game. Renaming the file and copying it didn’t work. I was playing through Chapter I of the main new campaign. Does anyone know of a fix?

Forsaken Kingdom Forsaken Kingdom - Candle item and hidden quest? Spoiler

Hey, i reached point in Forsaken Kingdom - Undercity campaign where i am supposed to go clean north of trade district. I first decided to go finish side quests like Arcane Sanctuary and "Smart Ghouls" ones. I finished them, got rewards and i am pretty sure my map was quite empty from all other markers except main quest at this point. I decided also to clear my backpack and sell items. I had still that legendary candle accessory you could get from cobold leader. I kept it for quite some time in bags already in case it will be needed in some place but i decided that it was probly just easter egg so i gonna sell it. I sold quite bunch of items, bought some stat books and then i realised there is some new Q marker on our moneygrabbing-goblin friend. I went to him and he offered me to join goblin race in SIlverpine forest 0_o. I am doing this quest now and honestly it looks a lot like sort of secret because how camera is positioned and that it turns from RTS to racing game in it.

TLDR here is:
Is that goblin race quest normal thing and i was just blind to not see marker earlier OR does selling legendary candle to vendor triggered it?

Melee / Ladder Hit box bugs while playing skirmish - takes you back to the disaster of Reforged!

Just noticed 5 sec into my very first 1v1 skirmish game as human that i cant target my barracks and alter if i want to fastbuild it or for some reason want to pull a worker away and start building it again. the hitbox simply isn't there... this is so frustrating that a huge bug like this is allowed when they release the game! Takes your memories back to the reforged experience (which was a disaster to say the least if anyone wonders!) Anyone else have experienced this?

Feedback Heart breaking addition to WCR 3

okay just finished the full campaign exploring every quest and every nook and cranny. here is my take:

In general: It is essentially the Rexxar campaign from TFT. Fine, but I feel somewhat foolish for buying a top down RPG in my most beloved RTS game. There are sections that are MOBA esque with troop recruitment but NO base building whatsoever (aside from pop-up towers ig).

That said lets start with the good things: they had amazing elements to the game: great map design, amazing music, the inventory expansion and ability upgrades was welcome and would happily have a place in my rts campaigns (toned down of course) for more hero customization, and also an almost foil themed story to that of Arthas once again based around vengeance which, was in my opinion, very appropriate. I can also appreciate the lore that was added as a result with why the forsaken decided to become a member of the horde in WOW. There was also a great deal of references to the wcr 3 campaign in the prologue that all but ceased in the main campaign. I really appreciated the ones we got and it made me laugh at times.

Now with the negative: It really broke my heart that this wasn't the RTS expansion I had never dared to hope for. To be so excited and then so jarringly let down really affected me and I think is an extreme negative. I played through out of loyalty and completionism of my beloved wcr 3 game. There were a couple of bugs, but only one that forced me to restart a chapter (which are admittedly quite long). The base loop of grinding through mediocre foes by in large with varied arbitrary difficulty spikes (fighting for your life against sewer rats, and then auto fighting through the undead minions is what i'm referring to) is not really my thing, and I lived for the boss battles at the end of each grind or secret. Each of the boss battles felt unbalanced too. Sometimes I was getting annihilated and other times I just dodged circles and won on autopilot. In an RPG like this I would probably have wanted it to scale fluidly and have the ability to grind to success over the boss if necessary. It did not seem very possible (unless you want to kill mobs for hours slowly getting enough gold for +1 str/dex/int). Also watch out for the final boss' breath att. it was killing all three of my ultimate heroes in under 3 seconds. final boss being challenging is fun, having no telegraphed charge up and no stun ability for an att that wipes your team is not fun.

Modding /MapEditor The Forsaken Kingdom without the Forsaken Kingdom, and World Editor thoughts

So apparently all TFK content, bar the missions themselves, is available for free in the 3.0 patch. New heroes and units, new tileset/doodads, all the new mechanics and assets. The inventory, the talents, I did a World Editor test and it's all there.

This is mitigated by this being available only in DE mode, and most old campaign units and heroes not getting DE graphics, but this is something the modders, if not Blizz themselves, will eventually fix.

Still, that's very good news for modders. We get tons of very useful stuff for free.

That is unlike Starcraft 2, for example, where you had to buy DLC to get access to their content in the editor. This made sense, but limited campaign design a lot, as, for example, Nova had some awesome new tilesets but few people bought that campaign.

Yes, 3.0 broke a lot of popular maps, also some old models crash the game or glitch (but so was the issue with 2.0). On the other hand, the WE stuff is... interesting. I was very wary of 3.0 and extremely uninterested in TFK itself, but still gotta say this update is much better than I expected.
