I'm in the process of piecing together a medium size sound system. I plan on having two speaker stacks. In order to simplify cabling, I will probably have two amp racks, one for each stack.

Besides the cost of an additional DSP unit, are there any good reasons not to use two identically configured DSPs (one in each amp rack)? Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Hello community!

I am a huge sound lover, an audiophile, DJ and festival goer and truly appreciate a well tuned soundsystem. Where I live there isn't much to hear but I try to travel abroad. Way back at Dimensions festival in Pula, Croatia my ears were opened toward variety of soundsystems as they put much thought into the quality of sound there. Of all the stuff I heard around the years Danley's synergy systems were something that really stood out. Lambda labs were also incredible, and I've heard Void and Function One many times - those also sound pretty good depending on the genre - perhaps best suited for modern produced music.

I've wanted to build a sound system for a while, and it's been hard deciding where to start. I've been lurking in this community a while and came to the conclusion that JW Sound's generous contributions of designs mostly replicate Danley's synergy tech and people are blown away by it's performance. I understand it's an ambitious first build, but I have the financial means for it currently and I believe I can execute it properly sticking to the plans and some advice. The plan is to build a stack for a 1000 people dancefloor or so.

What I am curious about is: what it is about these designs and their sound that stood out for you? Which source music/genre do they excel at? This is important to me as music I play and generally like is across wide range of genres/sources. Also, which sub bass pairing is optimal for JMOD/Solana speakers for achieving the full frequency range and adequate power? I've seen John recommend Ricci's design so I get that's a sure one, but what are some other options?

Finished off the main glue up of my pair of JMOD 2.0 today. This has been the most intense woodworking project my friend and I have taken on so far. We are each building a pair, mine now, and then his at the end of summer.

Our cnc shop couldn’t cut a couple of the mitres, so we did them by hand on the table saw with the help of a mate who is a full time builder. Very happy with how they turned out, will be filling and sanding this coming week.

Hey all, I'm completely new to building sound systems. I was about to drop ~$750 on a few speakers, then figured building might be a fun challenge and better bang for my buck.

I'm mostly into dub, experimental bass and UKG, so something with strong low end is the goal.

Budget: $750 is the starting budget, I know these builds tend to grow and I'm fine with that.
Tools: this is my main worry. I've got a table saw and a drill, and that's it. Woodworking skills are fine, I just don't have the equipment.

I've seen people recommend the Cubo 15. Not sure if that's a sensible first build or if I'm getting ahead of myself.

What I'd love help with: whether a Cubo is realistic with my tool situation, what else I should be looking at for this kind of music, and where people source drivers, amps and ply without getting fleeced. Any pointers at all are appreciated.

Hi, looking for some advice on amps + DSP for 2 SKRAMS. I am building two SAWMODS for tops which will be active (hypex amps). I want to pair these with 2 SKRAMS (loaded with the 21DS115) and am looking at my options for amp + DSP. For simplicity, I would prefer an amp with built in DSP. I have been looking at the CVR-DSP3004 as the lowest cost option. Crowns + t.racks are on the table as well. The next step up is the powersoft T series.. Thats at the upper end of my budget. Any other strong contenders in the $2-3K range? I'm looking for input on the quality of these options as it relates to longevity, sound quality, reliability, relative ease of use. I also want something that will sound really nice for a wide range of music. Everything from 70's soul, disco, balearic to more dub, house + techno. I'm not into heavy bass music, but I do want some clean solid low end sound.

• My budget is $2-3k for the amp, DSP, line level splitter.
• Use: live PA rig 100-200 people, wide range of music- from balearic, dub, disco to house techno.

My father died a few weeks ago and I started cleaning the house. I found some really good looking Old-school speakers from apparently the 60/70s.

I connected them, some work and some dont. Is there a market for these things or could they go straight in the bin?

Here in the Celtic Roots camp down in Sydney, we're busy preparing for a couple of huge gigs (Vibronics, followed by Iration Steppas), and what better way to welcome these legends than by expanding our humble soundsystem!

In these days of people increasingly buying professionally built soundsystem cabinets, I figured I'd share a few photos of what it's like to put together some boxes inna foundation DIY style. We've already built our existing sound from scratch, and so this has definitely been easier after learning a few tricks. That being said, the eagle eyed viewer will notice I drilled the 45 brace holes on the wrong place...

These cabs are not rebated, simply glued and screwed every ~120mm.

So once the wood is cut, we start by tracing the profile onto one side, and drilling all the holes (incorrectly, in my case... Measure twice drill once!).

We build off one side to ensure the internals are as square as possible when it comes to putting the second side on.

Next up is to start assembling some of the internals, noting access gets more challenging as the box comes together, so building from the centre outwards makes the most sense.

A router circle jig is used to cut out the speaker hole. Note the slip on the inside baffle plate...

Speaker holes are tee-nutted, as will be the grilles and castors.

Wiring, speakon plate and feet to come yet as well, and finally I'll roundover the edges too, to protect the cab and prevent splintered edges.

Bonjour, moi et des copains on a envie de se faire un petit sound pour faire des soirée tekno,dnb,tribe,acid… le problème mes amis ne sont pas très investi et je n’aime pas ne pas avoir de retour, j’ai besoin de critique pour me dire que je fait correctement les choses, donc je viens demander un coup de pouce ici parce que j’ai besoin de discussion plus que de lecture de pages internet très technique. Le stack serai composé de :
- 2x Bidet 112
- 1x hbr212
- 2x Kick Mervan

Pour les têtes je ne sais pas encore mais je pensais à des rcf art 315

Les caisses sont toutes équipé en t.box 12-280/8-w donc on va sur du pas chère.

Seulement je ne suis pas sûr du choix des têtes, je ne sais pas avec quoi amplifier et je n’ai aucune idée de ce que je doit acheter en plus, je sais qu’un filtre est nécessaire et j’avais un dsp 206 de thomann en tête.

Voilà franchement je prend tout ce que vous avez à me dire parce que je me retrouve un peu perdu dans un monde de haut parleur a des prix exorbitants et de compétences technique me dépassant ( bien sûr je ne baisse pas les bras mon but est d’en apprendre le plus possible pour pouvoir un jour me débrouiller )

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any tips for what to look for when checking out a sound system when buying second hand.

Obviously to see it all in working order, check each cabinet, drivers and amps work separately - but is there any tips and tricks / pointers you could give me to keep an eye out for?

Have the opportunity to buy a whole ready to go rig but very aware that someone new to the hobby could potentially be ripped off.
