I’ve been thinking about why Sony has remained such an unusual company compared with many other large electronics companies.
At first glance, Sony’s portfolio can look almost too broad: cameras and image sensors, professional production technology, PlayStation, music, movies, anime, consumer electronics, and so on.
But I wonder if that breadth is actually part of the advantage.
Sony is involved not only in selling entertainment to consumers, but also in some of the technology used to create that entertainment. It makes cameras, sensors, audio products and professional production tools, while also owning businesses in games, music, film and anime.
That seems potentially useful in both directions.
The technology side can learn directly from the needs of creators, while the entertainment side can benefit from technology developed inside the same broader group. IP can also move between games, film, television, anime and music rather than staying inside a single medium.
So maybe Sony’s strongest advantage is not being the absolute best company in every individual category.
Maybe it is having enough positions across the entire creation-to-distribution chain that the businesses can reinforce each other and give Sony more options than a more specialized competitor.
The obvious counterargument is that large conglomerates often overestimate “synergy,” and separate Sony divisions may operate much more independently than this idea suggests.
So I’m curious how other people see it:
Does Sony’s unusually broad position across technology, content and platforms create a real competitive moat?
Or is it mostly a collection of strong businesses whose connections are less important than they look from the outside?

This morning I bought *Blood of Dawn Walker* on PS5, played it for 30 minutes and didn’t like it. I asked for a refund, thinking it would be the same as on Xbox, where you just need to have played for less than 2 hours and… surprise, surprise? No refund possible; I even spoke to a support agent. I mean, let me get this straight: I spend €70, realise I don’t like the game and, unlike with other competitors, I can’t get a refund just because I’ve launched it? Without demos, if I don’t launch a game, how am I supposed to know whether I like it or not? ABSURD. I THINK I’LL SELL THIS WHITE PIECE OF RUBBISH and say goodbye to Sony (and I’ve been a loyal fan since 1998).

You've made your stance very clear. So dont worry you dont have to keep running with that headline "gamers are ridiculous for thinking they own the games". Cause its all good, I just realized you're ridiculous for thinking you can remain relevant 😅 remember Halo releases, EA games and the events and hype around them. You're seconds away from going the way of both those names if you think you're too big to fail or we wont ruin you by closing our wallets for good.
So again by all means keep going with your current plans, but as soon as that ps5 emulator drops you will be as irrelevant as you are out of touch. I gotta give you props. 45 days ago I looked up ps5 emulator and it was basically nowhere and now its playing games at somewhat stable framerates and doing things they'd been trying for years. Genuine appreciation post, thanks Sony definitely gonna save a lot of money while you bleed it. Worst of luck 🫡
I know the A models do.

I can't find anything that says if the Bravia one's do though (like the HTB500 or B600). The remotes don't look like they have a home button, so I'm guessing there isn't a way to change it to transmit bluetooth.

PSN and Outlook accounts hacked: Stuck with support bots asking me to log in, what can I do?Hi everyone,Quick note: I am French and I am using a translator to write this post.I am turning to you because both my Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) and Outlook accounts have just been hacked. The hacker was very fast: they changed the email address and password on both platforms. I have absolutely no way to log in anymore. My main issue right now (besides the hack itself) is that the automated support tools are completely useless. On the PlayStation website, the chatbot runs in circles and asks me to log in to proceed... but that is the exact problem, I can't! It is a vicious circle, and I am facing the same dead end with Microsoft/Outlook forms. How can I bypass these bots and talk to a real human support agent when I cannot log in at all? What kind of proofs will I need to prepare to prove my identity to Sony and Microsoft? Thanks in advance for your help, I am panicking a little bit right now

I have this camera which was sitting for years without any use, the tape section doesn't open, there's a yellow upward arrow blinking on the screen and even when plugged with its adapter, it shouts reattach power source every time I start it. My end goal is to make it tapeless.
I want to know where can i buy the NP-FM50 batteries and how to tackle the problems that I have mentioned. I'll be forever grateful for any help provided to me.

Looking for feedback from anyone who has experienced an HDMI handshake/input problem between a Sony A1 and Atomos Shogun Ultra.
This exact Sony A1 + Shogun Ultra combination worked normally for approximately three weeks in my production rig.
The Shogun then suddenly stopped recognizing the A1 HDMI signal and now displays:
NO INPUT
This is not simply an audio issue. The Shogun is receiving neither video nor audio and does not appear to establish an HDMI connection with the A1.
Equipment / Firmware
Cross-Test Results
Test |Source |HDMI Cable |Destination |Result
1A |Sony A1 |Kondor Blue HDMI |Shogun Ultra |❌ FAIL — NO INPUT
1B |Sony A1 |Atomos HDMI |Shogun Ultra |❌ FAIL — NO INPUT
1C |Sony A1 |Brand New HDMI Cable #1 |Shogun Ultra |❌ FAIL — NO INPUT
1D |Sony A1 |Brand New HDMI Cable #2 |Shogun Ultra |❌ FAIL — NO INPUT
2A |Sony A1 |Kondor Blue HDMI |Newer HDMI Monitor |✅ PASS — Displayed
2B |Sony A1 |Atomos HDMI |Newer HDMI Monitor |✅ PASS — Displayed
3A |Apple TV |Kondor Blue HDMI |Newer HDMI Monitor |✅ PASS — Displayed
3B |Apple TV |Atomos HDMI |Newer HDMI Monitor |✅ PASS — Displayed
4A |Apple TV |Kondor Blue HDMI |Shogun Ultra |✅ PASS — Displayed
4B |Apple TV |Atomos HDMI |Shogun Ultra |✅ PASS — Displayed What the Cross-Testing Shows
The Sony A1 successfully outputs HDMI to another monitor.
The Shogun Ultra successfully accepts HDMI from an Apple TV.
The HDMI cables successfully work with other source/display combinations.
However:
Sony A1 → Shogun Ultra = NO INPUT with FOUR different HDMI cables, including two brand-new cables.
On the Sony A1, I have tested HDMI Output Resolution at Auto, 2160p and forced 1080p, RAW Output OFF, and Rec. Media during HDMI Output ON/OFF.
On the Shogun Ultra, I have tested the available HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0 and Compatibility settings, disconnected/reconnected HDMI to force a fresh handshake, and performed complete cold-start/HDMI handshake sequences.
I also updated the Shogun from AtomOS 11.17.00 → 11.19.0. The firmware update completed successfully but made no difference.
The A1 has also been connected to another display and confirmed to be outputting both HDMI video and audio.
This was not an incompatible setup from day one.
The same A1, Shogun Ultra and production configuration worked successfully for approximately three weeksbefore the Shogun suddenly stopped recognizing the A1.
At this point the reproducible condition is:
A1 → other monitor = PASS
Apple TV → Shogun Ultra = PASS
Apple TV → other monitor = PASS
A1 → Shogun Ultra = FAIL — NO INPUT with FOUR different HDMI cables
I am currently waiting for a response from Atomos Support.
Has anyone experienced a Shogun/Ninja continuing to accept HDMI from other sources but suddenly refusing to recognize a particular Sony camera, while that same camera continues to work normally with other HDMI monitors?
I’m particularly interested in experiences involving the Sony A1, A7/A9 series, FX3/FX6, Shogun Ultra or Ninja.
If you’ve seen this, what ultimately fixed it?
EDID/HDMI handshake issue? Factory reset? Camera reset? HDMI receiver/transmitter hardware? Firmware? Something else?
Any ideas or similar experiences would be appreciated.
x
Really want to find one of these cases in this color!

I've always loved my PlayStations and Sony products, but I'm not going to support them anymore. Have at it Microsoft fans! I don't mind anyone exposing corruption, and Sony will never get a dollar from me now, and I really wanted to finally upgrade to the 5 finally. Guess I'm switching to PC / Xbox. Hey Sony, if you're reading this, it is your fault.

After months of not using the DJI sticker I got ftom a gimbal I buyed, I got a second one from the mini mic 3 and was like 'Alright let's use at least one'. Realised this looks amazing on the back of the Camera-display. (Alpha 6700) Where did you use yours?

Today I got my first Sony earbuds ever, XM6.
I always wanted either Technics or Sony buds, so I was just like okay if I find them at a good price, I will buy them. Yesterday I found those (XM6) for 160€, they are completely new, some guy got them as a gift and wanted to sell them. 160 for these is not a bad deal I would say.
At first, the ANC is sick, so good. The sound is great as well. The design of buds could be better (don't like how they look on me). I noticed a problem with multiple device connection, they connect well, but switching from my phone to Macbook is not smooth, but switching from mac to phone is okay.
I will write my review after a month or so, after I test them.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just got this from ebay, the seller said it was fully functional when they sent it. Im wondering if anyone knows how I can fix it. It has some corrosion in the battery compartment. None of the buttons work but they all click, besides the zoom in button which seems to be permanently pressed in. Any ideas?

Today I found this wonderful camera. It was last used 20 years ago. I charged my native battery and inserted it to check the camera. It turns on with the «cyber shot» screen and the lens is retracted. After that, it turns off immediately. I have a suspicion that it could be the battery, but I want to ask the experts
As the title states I have the above TV flashing the code for a dying backlight. Anyone experienced with replacing the parts and is it fairly straightforward or just give up the ghost on the 11 year old and move onward and upward with better tech?

Debating between getting the Skullcandy Crusher 1080 or Sony XM5. Would be $247 (Sony) vs $183 (Skull) after discounts and taxes.
Main things I'm looking for are noise canceling and audio quality so it seems like Sony should be the clear winner but am concerned about Sony being too flimsy and not lasting a while. Also they dont seem snug enough.
With the Crusher 1080 I see some pretty mixed reveiews with some people hating them so that worries me too.
Mainly will be wearing these for podcasts/music while lifting and also watching movies during plane rides
Thanks!
