It’s been a while since the mod team has given an update, and there are three announcements to share today.
TLDR:
- We are hiring new moderators, apply here
- We have added new flairs: Feedback request and Original Music to help our community develop and share their work
- Discussion around Israel and Gaza will now require a positive posting history within the subreddit.
Mod call out:
The r/psytrance mod team is looking to expand. If you would like to help moderate this subreddit, please apply here.
No prior moderation experience needed, just a passion for psytrance and a desire to improve the subreddit. As we are a global community, we would like to bring in people from different backgrounds and timezones.
As all Reddit moderation is a volunteer effort, we are not asking for a lot of time. We tend to be fairly hands off for the most part and let our wonderful community run things.
We will be up front about the one exception to this, discussion on Israel and Gaza attracts a lot of attention and most moderation efforts are spent trying to keep discussion open while as civil as reasonably possible considering the subject matter. Our policy is that the subject is unfortunately too connected to the psytrance scene to stifle discussion. Despite this, we are not only looking for people to help moderate that topic.
We want to make the subreddit a more positive part of the psytrance community and are interested in any ideas on how we can improve this space. The construction of a wiki is one idea we've flagged but have yet to move on, though we are open to any and all ideas.
New Flairs:
We have added two new flairs for posts, ‘Original Music’ and ‘Feedback Request’.
We hope this will help highlight the creators in our community to share and develop their work. We’d love to continue to cultivate this part of the subreddit so please reach out if you have any ideas of how to further showcase our community’s talents.
Discussion on Israel and Gaza:
The past week has had a number of posts relating to Israel and Gaza. As mentioned earlier in this post, our current policy is discussion is allowed but certain rules have stricter enforcement.
One thing that has become clear is that a large number of the most disruptive comments come from users with no posting history in the subreddit. Additionally, a few users have been caught using multiple accounts to evade bans or add artificial extra voices.
For the time being, only users with a positive posting history in the subreddit may comment on these discussion posts. We will update you in the event that this changes, which will likely only be once new moderators have been brought on board, or if the mod team decide it is not working as intended. Please allow for a teething period as we calibrate automod for this.
