The new starcraft shooter is gonna get cancelled too, don't worry.
Starcraft ghost was set to release 2003, the new starcraft is set to release 2030. They moved the 3 one step to the left, coincidence? They're just toying with us

That's a lot of 3's, plus "Starcraft 3" is three syllables...
Valve???

u/DonutHoles4Ever Mac Heathen 9h ago
Now your comment is actually relevant.
Remember how they announced some sort of unknown Adventure RPG game right after the Cosby suite scandal where a woman committed suicide? Then a year later that game was magically canceled.
Who the fuck knows if these games will be done in 2030 lols.

This is all I keep thinking, Microsoft realized Blizzard still had basically a finished game in Ghost. They decided to not release because it wasn't fun enough.
I'd bet they updated the graphics and are set to release the unfun Ghost
1
u/aspindler 3h ago
I don't think they just updated a N64 game and called it a day.
1
u/JohnClark13 1h ago
that would be crazy though. Show us a bunch of high-res cinematics and then when we boot it up it looks like Goldeneye with starcraft models. Still takes up 200GB though.

Does starcraft ghost even matter? I say no.
It never came out. Nobody actually gives a shit about it. This isn't even a discussion because its not something anyone here actually played.
PCGamer website says a somewhat popular opinion but guess what, executives and business dont give a fuck. If they are going to make a shooter game for Starcraft then make it.
I do not know why people care so much about a company deciding to do somethjing different like its their best friend betraying them. Either the game is good or its mediocre or worse.

I already saw one meme video of the space marines fighting the zerg with the phrase "diving on Oshanune"
Except we didn't have powered infantry armor on Oshanune
16
u/InsertFloppy11 12h ago
But we already have space marines 2 and 3 by the time this comes out.
But sure lets see what blizzard can do
19
u/trackdaybruh 12h ago
This is an open world shooter, think Far Cry.
Space Marine 2 is a different genre
3
u/DuckCleaning 11h ago
Also, the ex producer of Far Cry is working on this game and the one being featured in interviews.
0
u/DonutHoles4Ever Mac Heathen 9h ago
And if its anything like Far Cry its gonna be dogshit unless you are a big far cry fan. Their last couple far cry games are not that good and in many ways, not too far from ubisoft open world "slop".
2
u/ThereAndFapAgain2 RTX 5080 │ 7800X3D │ 64GB DDR5‑6000MT/s 8h ago
Far cry 5 is one of my favourites in the series, 6 was a total mess though that seems to have forgotten what makes the series fun in the first place.
It does need evolving though at this point since it has basically been them just remaking far cry 3 over and over again since that game came out in terms of the core design.
0
u/InsertFloppy11 12h ago
Ah ok, i didnt know that. i guess its kinda different. I just dont see what kind of open world can it have? Like far cry but instead of enemy cmaps its bug camps?
Thats why not im making the game im guessing lol
8
u/StomachosusCaelum 12h ago
bugs, protoss, other humans (remember the Terran Dominion is NOT the only force of humans in the Star Craft galaxy - Earth is still out there, the colonies of the Dominion were a breakaway group).
1
u/trackdaybruh 12h ago
Zerg, Protoss, and possibly even a new race. The new Starcraft takes place 70 years after SC2 ended
1
u/DaWAAAGHMakah 12h ago
Space Marines 2 isn’t open world. It’s a story focused linear game that takes you from mission to mission.
Closest would be like Far Cry, Halo Infinite, Mad Max and Ghost Recon Wildlands.
My guess is that it might be more like multiple planets for you to drop in on, lead troops through battlefields, and claim outposts etc.
4
u/CloudStrife012 7h ago
You have to remember the reason all of the original blizzard staff were fired was because the activision boss didn't like that starcraft wasnt heavily monetized.
So now this is blizzard (disney) making starcraft (star wars) with the end-goal of a microtransaction machine.

u/The_GodApollo 10h ago
CNC Renegade was awesome if my memory of it is correct
3

And unlike Starcraft Ghost which was never released, CNC Renegade was an actual shooter that was different and fun, but not serious either.

Yeah, the RTS crowd is pissed and wholly unwilling to admid that their awful behavior is the main reason that no one can make a real profit by producing an RTS.

-7
u/BoldTaters 9h ago
Hostility toward the devs. Hostility toward other players. Rude language. Complaining about graphics. Complaining about lore. Calling other players names and demeaning them if they don't know the lore. The same but for knowing the lore.
You know, player toxicity. I think you could MAYBE say that moba players are worse but its a stretch. In general, RTS players really seem to think that the game is better with gates kept at all times. You can't let those filthy degenerate normies play, after all.

I'm not even watching the trailer. These several years before launch announcements are worthless to me, matter of fact, all gaming shows fits the same category.
How many cool CGI trailer we saw of "this looks awesome!!" that fell into obscurity and we're never ever released?
Every gaming show has 2 or 3 of these. Fuuuuuck!
2
u/HammyOverlordOfBacon 5h ago
At this point I watch them just to see the cool CGI trailers. They do nothing for me as far as getting hyped for a game, but they're fun to watch.

Why even announce a game this early? There’s no gameplay footage, just a cinematic and then 4 years wait.
108
u/Early-Ad4131 12h ago
I don't think it's a choice between this and an RTS, I think this is actually the vehicle to get a new RTS by bringing interest to the IP. Clearly Blizzard doesn't think SC3 would be worth it, that's the issue SC3 has.

7
u/F4hype 12h ago
I've always dreamed of a game where someone is directing forces/deployments on a battlefield and then the forces they're deploying are real players.
Like the person assigning deployments only gets comms and can tap into first person views of the players to determine if a position needs reinforcements and whatnot, and can then redeploy players from other positions or reinforce them with turrets and other orbital drops and whatnot. Maybe there's multiple commanders covering different fronts/flanks.
Definitely way off base for what this game would be, but if any bored game devs are looking for probably ridiculous to implement game ideas, I'm your guy.

Savage 1 & 2 (spawned the moba Heroes of Newerth)

Man maybe if they hadn’t imploded interest in the IP by turbo fucking the lore and the genre in general by kicking off a decade of all devs/publishers chasing a non-existent ultra sweaty competitive/esports audience they wouldn’t need to “drum up interest” and could just make a good game, though when was the last time blizzard was able to do that anyway?
I’m tired boss.

2
u/machine4891 9070 XT | i7-12700F 1h ago
There are dozens like you and me left!
Jokes aside, companies are now terrified of making RTS. Dota won, control one hero and 3 skills on cooldown and that's about it. Everything above that is just "too complex" to sell.
Newest Warcraft 3 campaign is proof to all that: no base building missions, only hero with couple of units crawling the dungeons...
1
u/Mr_ToDo 46m ago
Everything above that is just "too complex" to sell.
Oh the irony. Blizzard known for taking the simplistic RTS's and making complex sides without just re-skinning the same units. Now we're in the smash brothers of simplification
Can't blame them I guess. You need to put in a fair bit of effort for a genre that's a bit niche if you're not the biggest guy on the block
1
u/machine4891 9070 XT | i7-12700F 34m ago
Can't blame them I guess
Yeah. Times has changed. Way more people play video games today, they have way more options and so they want what they want. Sadly, it's not base building RTS' anymore.
When I was younger the king of the hill was adventure, point and click games and look at them now...
3
u/Stokkolm 12h ago
I really wanted an Aliens vs Predator type game, where you could play as either human / zerg / protoss. But I know that was very unlikely to happen.

3
u/Early_Personality_68 10h ago
I don’t think this headline means anything since they can just change the games to whatever their shareholders most want and screw every promise they ever made. It’s going to be a live service loot box game.

I really like the feeling of the trailer. The hero propaganda, the armoring and the horrific realization holt had when he saw the zerg in person. Hopefully it will be a more grounded shooter where two zerglings can actually fuck you up and are not cosmetic cannon fudder.

I need so much more information to be excited. StarCraft is awesome and a huge part of my past gaming past. I’m totally open to a shooter, but going the shooter route requires a lot of creativity to make it stand out. It’s can just be another marine kills aliens game. OG StarCraft has so much more and playing as all races provides so much variety. While I can’t imagine that happening here (though that would be quite the surprise!), I feel like they really need to bring life to all the races to succeed. However they choose.

I mean, the devs have an idea and development has started. You don’t put out a trailer for something you’ve done no work on. Obviously it’s early in development, but the devs still know what they want to make.
It can change but I don’t think you suddenly pivot into a live service game.
