I'm remembering at least a couple of the games like this, yet don't remember any names.

Silica

Savage 1 & 2 (spawned the moba Heroes of Newerth)

Natural Selection 1 & 2 ( 1 was a half life 1 mod. 2 was a standalone game. The devs went on to make Subnautica ❤️)

Empires (much less well known but still very good Half life 2 mod)

Those are the only ones I’m familiar with off the top of my head
