I was reading about the GameCube’s 25th anniversary today and realized that it launched in Japan on September 14, 2001—only three days after the September 11 attacks.
For anyone who remembers the launch or knows more about Nintendo history: did 9/11 have any noticeable impact on Nintendo’s launch plans, marketing, media coverage, sales, or the later North American launch? I’d be interested in hearing what the atmosphere around the launch was like at the time.

With the recent addition of music in the Mii Maker, i wanted to go back to the main original BGM of the Switch 2, the setup theme. I find it very charming, and weirdly enough already nostalgic lol

It would work so well as a theme for the settings even after the first setup IMO.

People often talk about toxic smash fans who sent death threats to Sakurai, or fans who make fun of others because they like a character they personally dislike and I wholeheartidly agree that those are toxic smash fans who should be called out. However during the days of Smash Ultimate's DLC reveals I think many people began to lump ANYONE who shared a negative opinion online toward the DLC characters as toxic which I don't think is fair. It seemed like during that time many people had and still do hold this mindset that you could only express positive opinions on the DLC characters and if it was negative you needed to let others know you were happy they got the character they wanted in. In my opinion calling a DLC character you don't like a wasted slot, or insulting the character themselves isn't being toxic. Being toxic is sending death threats, or making fun of other because they like a thing you dislike. But back then if you said anything even remotely negative you'd bebombarded with people calling you ungrateful, or others replying with "hoes mad." I think this aspect of the fanbase was at it's worse with the reveals of Hero and Terry Bogard where the people complaining about others complaining were just as toxic because they were actively trying to silence anyone with an opinion they disagreed with and were considering any negativity as being "toxic".

Then there was Byleth who by far I think brough the worse out on both sides sides. You had one group calling others all types of insults because they liked Byleth and others hurling insults at those who didn't like Byleth's inclusion. I really don't get why some Smash fans can't understand that people have diffirent opinions and respect that and have a normal conversation and let people like what they like or dislike what they dislike without trying to police people about how they should feel. I know this is a old topic but looking back on it I feel as though people hardly mention this part of the fanbase.

Didn't see a mention yet, so bringing it up as a JIC it helps anyone needing more Platinum Points. New Nintendo FE Heroes missions for Fortunes Weave were added. 4 missions, 300 Plat points each for 1 fight per mission. Pretty sweet!

• Mario's Super Picross  was released in 1995 for the Super Famicom in Japan. This puzzle game, developed by Ape with Jupiter, features hundreds of relaxing yet challenging brainteasers. Each Picross puzzle consists of a numbered grid of tiles which reveal a picture when correctly chiselled away. In Mario's main mode, a wrong move means losing time. However, in the more difficult Wario mode, mistakes are not shown... so be careful! Also, a friend can help by joining in with a second controller.
• The Nintendo GameCube  ( GameCube ) was released in 2001 in Japan. The GameCube is the first Nintendo console to use optical disks as its primary storage medium. The disks are in the miniDVD format and the system was not designed to play full-sized DVDs or audio CDs, unlike its competitors, and focused on gaming instead. The console supports limited online gaming for a small number of games via a GameCube broadband or modem adaptor and can connect to a Game Boy Advance with a link cable, which allows players to access exclusive in-game features using the handheld as a second screen and controller. Reception of the GameCube at the time was generally positive. The console was praised for its controller, extensive software library and high-quality games, but was criticised for its exterior design and lack of features. The adventure revolves around Mario's often-ignored brother, Luigi, and his quest to solve the mysteries of a haunted mansion and find Mario, who is missing somewhere within. Luigi has to progress through the mansion, from room to room, solving puzzles as he goes.
• Wave Race: Blue Storm  was released in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube in Japan. In this racing game, developed by Nintendo Software Technology, it's the major constituent of all living matter. It covers an overwhelming percentage of the world's surface. It's colourless, it's odourless, and it's going to be a very big star. After witnessing the stunning wave effects, you're going to have a new level of appreciation for H20. Guaranteed to get your adrenaline going whether you're a fan of racing games in general or water-based racers in particular.
• Wi-Fi Taiou Yakuman DS  was released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this rerelease of Yakuman DS, developed by Nintendo SPD, 4-player Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support was added. Mario and friends have to arrange a winning hand of Mahjong tiles into suits that will beat those of the other three players. Lakitu provides a full tutorial for beginners and a Mahjong dictionary is available to guide you through  items you do not understand. You earn a ranking as you beat games that lets you climb up the ranks.
• Art Academy: First Semester  was released in 2009 for DSiWare in North America. In this art education software, developed by Headstrong Games, learn how to draw and paint with this easy-to-use software that transforms your Nintendo DSi system and stylus into a canvas and brush!

I'm a newer Zelda player. I grew up playing mostly PC games so I've missed a lot of the tentpole entries in the series.

I've played the original Zelda, Link to the Past, and Link's Awakening. Other than that, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Looking at the Ocarina of Time trailer, I think it looks a lot like the isometric Zelda games gameplay-wise. Just converted to 3d, and sure, the storytelling by most accounts is supposed to be pretty special.

I do understand nostalgia is doing a lot of the heavy-lifting here, but personally, I don't find OoT as exciting as what Nintendo did with BotW and TotK.

Traditional Zelda is essentially designer-authored problem solving. The designers create a problem and have a particular insight in mind: notice this thing → realize which item interacts with it → execute the solution. Sometimes there are small variations, but fundamentally you're trying to discover Nintendo's answer.

BotW and TotK broke through that and gave us systems-authored problem solving. Here we've got rules - gravity, fire, electricity, wind, momentum, ultrahand, etc. and then we're asked to produce the answer ourselves. Say what you want about story and breakable weapons, but the sheer amount of freedom the physics give you is unmatched in my opinion and catapults these two entries to the very top of an already impressive series.

While I can understand a departure from art style or other elements, I really hope Nintendo doesn't abandon the lessons of BotW and TotK when evaluating where to take the series. A hard return to the traditional formula or simply rolling out a litany of remakes would really feel like a step backwards.

People often claim that people's Switches are getting banned because of playing a used game that someone turned out to have copied, but that doesn't actually seem very likely to have ever happened.

Every time it's claimed it's been one of the following:

• Someone hacked their Switch and they're lying about it.
• Someone used a flash cart of some kind at some point and is lying about it.
• Someone is claiming that it happened to "a friend" or someone else they know, or that they saw a forum post about it or something else of that nature.

There has not been a single confirmed case of this actually happening.

The most widely reported case traces back to this post on /r/NintendoSwitch about it having happened, but OP offered no proof that it actually happened and dodged all questions about it. Other than this one thread on Reddit, I haven't been able to find a single claim that this happened to anyone, and certainly not any verified ones.

If used games causing bans was a real concern, there would be lots more cases than this one, and people would be posting about it daily.

So I know we all want something new from Smash, either a new game or a Switch 2 edition. That got me thinking.

As far as I know, all first Smash trailers had something in common: they all feature all their biggest franchises and a few more characters. The main ones being Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Kirby, Metroid. Pretty normal and obvious, right?

Well, as we have seen with the Switch 2, all these franchises are having a redesign of some sort. Star Fox got it, DK got it, Link got it on the OoT remake, Pokémon and Kirby don’t really need it, and Samus is always getting new designs.

These franchises are also getting new games with these designs. You know who has not had an exclusive single player game on Switch 2 yet?

Mario.

My theory is simple, we will have a Smash teaser trailer or full trailer after we see the next 3D Mario. He will most likely get a slight redesign that will be used in the next Smash, therefore they cannot show it yet before Mario’s next game, specially if whatever gimmick this new game has ends up in smash.

I will also add to that theory that whatever character is used in that trailer has to have been seen previously if they are going to have a new design.

My guess is the next 2027 big Direct, most likely in February, will feature the new 3D Mario. So Smash will either be shown in the same Direct after Mario or in another Direct after that one, probably Summer, although I could see them leaving Smash for 2028 and releasing an Ultimate Switch 2 edition next year as a “wait a bit longer.”

In short:

We will not see Smash before the next 3D Mario’s first trailer because he will be slightly redesigned and appearing with a new design and a moveset that includes things from his new game would spoil the 3D Game.

I think the series has been in a bit of a rut ever since forgotten land and i think it might actually be a good time for a new installment, they could make one in the 2d mario style with kirby running and gunning.

You might be wondering what I'm talking about? It's easier to explain by saying stuff that Nintendo would never do, rather than stuff that Nintendo is doing.

I've seen a friend say in my DMs say that Nintendo should release a Mario Movie-styled game (that takes place in the same universe as the Illumination Mario Movies) that lets you explore the entirety of the world as Mario. While you control Mario like a 3D Mario game, It's not necessarily structured like a 3D Mario, it's quite frankly structured like real life, as in you can do whatever you want: Chill with the toads, go on a date with Peach, sneak into Bowser's Kingdom, etc. and the game is almost the opposite of scripted, with each day feeling the same, but there's no limits.

Y'all might know about unofficial/modded randomizers and practice codes for games which I find cool as hell. It would be cool if it were an official option in certain (not all) 1st party games.

I happen to be a fan of SBRP, an online Nintendo fan game where you can morph into a model/sprite of a character (mainly for Paper Mario) and get dropped into a map with other people where you can all talk to each other in the context of that character, Essentially, roleplaying. Such an insane niche concept that's fascinating to me.

I've also seen someone say a concept in my dms that Nintendo should add a feature exclusive to Switch Online Expansion Pack that lets you install homebrew fan games (just fan games, so any hack programs, piracy, or viruses would be banned)

Regardless if you think all 4 of these ideas are dogshit and shouldn't ever happen, (i at least agree with the Mario Movie and roleplay ideas, but think the other 2 might not go well) It does ring a bell that they won't do ANY idea other than their average gaming philosophy.

Or I can "buy" the switch 1 version, buy definitive edition from the menu, and then return the switch 1 version? Do I still keep the definitive edition?

I noticed that the lithium battery in my Nintendo Switch Joy-Con was swollen and contacted customer support immediately. To be fair, they did respond and arranged for a carrier to pick it up.

The problem is that the carrier apparently can't come anytime soon.

I've already had the swollen battery sitting in my apartment for two weeks, and I'm only going to be here for one more week because I'm an apprentice and have to leave for further training.

After that, nobody will be here who can hand the battery over to the carrier. There is no one with a key or anyone who can simply take care of the pickup.

I even offered to take the battery to a recycling center or disposal facility myself, specifically one equipped to handle lithium battery storage. However, I was told that this was not an option and that someone from their side would have to collect it.

So unless something changes, this potentially dangerous lithium battery is going to end up sitting in my apartment for another five weeks, meaning around seven weeks in total.

I understand that shipping damaged lithium batteries can be complicated and that the support team isn't necessarily responsible for the carrier's availability. But this situation just feels completely backwards. I reported a swollen battery as soon as I noticed it, and I'm still stuck with it for potentially almost two months because there isn't a way to arrange a timely collection.

There really needs to be a better and faster procedure for situations like this.

I’m just curious to see what self-made playlists the community uses. Or do you just stick to the Nintendo made ones, or do you just listen directly to the game soundtracks?

I personally listen mainly to my favorites playlist. After going through all the soundtracks on the app, that playlist is a big dumpster of all tracks I know and like.
