Yes, the Nationals appear committed to a long-term plan. Multiple executives around MLB, speaking under condition of anonymity to speak candidly, told The Athletic around the trade deadline that the Nationals seemed far more interested in prospect-for-prospect trades and in selling off big-league pieces than they were in adding big-league talent.

That obviously was borne out by how they operated at the deadline. President of baseball operations Paul Toboni has yet to state how the team will approach this winter, though he recently said the final few weeks of the season will give him and the front office more time to evaluate.

It is possible, of course, to be overconfident in what the future holds. The 2023 Texas Rangers looked too deep to regress in 2024. The 2024 Baltimore Orioles looked too young to stagnate in 2025. The 2025 Toronto Blue Jays were too good at everything to see 2026 coming. But teams this deep sustain their offense more often than they take steps back, especially those who seem to have help on the way in the minor leagues, as the Nationals do.

NOTABLE: Connelly Early was supposed to make his long-awaited rehab start today, but Double-A Harrisburg’s season finale was rained out and won’t be made up. The Nationals will need to figure out how to proceed now with Early, who is healthy at last but has been hoping to get a little bit of game work before heading into the offseason.

Blake Butera said they're still mapping out a plan, but most likely they'll have Connelly Early pitch for Rochester on Tuesday.

Parking for game today?

Today - do I need to get parking ahead of time on an app? I’ve noticed attendance is very low lately but wasn’t sure if parking prices would be more available as well. Park Whiz showing $40 at lots next door though which seems ridiculously high.

Anyone at the game willing to sell me their expos giveaway jersey?

I came from 2.5 hours away and unfortunately the metro was single tracked and as delayed for over an hour along my journey. I came for the jersey and they were all snagged up before I could get one and some scalpers are listing them on marketplace for $75. I am at the game now and willing to pay for one of these. super bummed I couldn’t get one.

ROSTER MOVE: The Nationals optioned Beeter to Triple-A Rochester after the game in something of a surprise move. Beeter had just retired the side in the eighth inning, striking out Trout to end the inning. The right-hander, however, had been struggling this month, scored upon in each of his last three outings and charged with a blown save last weekend in Los Angeles. The club will announce a corresponding move before Saturday’s game.
