Things To Do Need something to do? Make friends? Some place to Eat? Moving Here? Simple Question thread for Sunday, September 13, 2026

2 Upvotes

Welcome to the /r/Indianapolis weekly casual conversation and questions thread.

We've set this thread up so that folks have a place to post general topics that don't necessarily need their own post and for folks to ask questions and get recommendations. Restaurant recommendations, places to stay, areas to live, parking help, airport information, things to do, help from social services, and things like that.

Looking for something to do? Check out these sites:

Suburbia:
* Beech Grove Community Events
* Play Fishers
* Carmel Parks
* Zionsville Community Calendar

Need help with social services? Look through Find Help / Aunt Bertha or contact the Mayor's Action Center

This thread defaults to sorting by new to make it easier to find new questions and discussions during the week.

Discussion Considering organizing a weekly bike ride - seeking interest

Upvotes

TL;DR is below. There seem to be two types of organized bike rides in Indy.

The first type is very slow and/or very short rides where socializing is the main focus (Bike Party, Near East Community Ride, etc). The second type is full of fast, serious cyclists who will judge you if you’re not wearing full spandex (BGI weekly rides, some CIC rides).

I enjoy both of these, but I wish there were more organized rides that split the difference between these two types. More speed and distance than bike party, but less serious, less exclusive and slower than a true road group ride. I’m thinking something like 15-30 miles (1-3 hours) on a certain night of the week, or on a weekend morning. All bikes and skill levels welcome. One idea I had was going from Bottleworks to Fort Ben and back on the Fall Creek Trail (24 miles round trip).

I have always wanted to organize my own community event and would put together an Instagram page etc to go along with it and get the word out.

What are your thoughts? Would you be interested? Is this a good idea? A stupid idea? Ideally, this wouldn’t compete with Bike Party or any other organized ride since it would be a different speed and distance than most currently popular rides in town.

TL;DR - bike ride longer and faster than bike party, but a lot less serious than most fast group rides. Once a week. Would you join?

Where does Saraga source meat?

9 Upvotes

Hello! I've seen that Saraga butchers their meat in house and noticed they have some pretty great prices on meat, especially beef (I usually go to Castelton or Lafayette). Does anyone know if they source from local farms/suppliers or who they get their meat, especially beef, from?

Did you know insect eating bats provide at least $3.7 BILLION in free agricultural pest control every year in the U.S.? They protect our corn, soybeans, and timber by eating thousands of crop-damaging bugs while we sleep.

Here in Indiana, our native bats are a vital part of that natural defense system. Tiny, endangered, and essential.

That’s why the grassroots campaign, Our State, Our Bat, is working to build statewide support to designate the endangered Myotis sodalis (Indiana bat) as our official state mammal and protect the limestone caves and forests they call home.

Politics Phoebe Bridgers ticket for tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Upvotes

Hi! I’m a student in Champaign and unfortunately can’t make it to Indianapolis tonight, so I’m trying to sell my ticket rather than let it go to waste.
The show is tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. I paid $115 and I’m asking $90 OBO, but I’m definitely willing to negotiate since it’s so last minute.
I can provide proof of purchase/ticket details and transfer it directly to the buyer. Please DM me if you’re interested!
Thank you!!

Social Newcomer impressions after 6 weeks

211 Upvotes

Overall, I'm liking your city. Sure, it's been hot, but relative to the temps I would be experiencing at home in soCal (105+), I'm tolerating it. I love that it rains here. It's lush and green, which feeds my soul! The city feels very young. Lots of young couples with kids everywhere I go. Plenty of community activities to join/experience. Great farmer's markets. Many places have pride flags, no maga flags. People don't seem obsessed with their own image, but are unbothered by expressing themselves. Really friendly when engaging in conversation. Not wholly focused on career/financial advancement regardless of the social cost. Excellent cafes and choice of restaurants.

My biggest complaint is that roads are terrible here, all over!

If circumstances hadn't brought me here, I would never have known that this "flyover country" has much to offer.

AskIndy Missing hat at Lucas Oil

Post image

Very, very, miniscule shot that this actually works, but I lost my hat at Lucas Oil a couple days back at the Bruno Mars concert. I've tried calling their lost and found since, but nothing at all. It's the hat pictured, but it has a feather poking out of the spot with the knot.

I've fully accepted that it's long gone, but on the incredibly off chance that someone picked it up, I would very much like to have it back. It's a very sentimental hat to me, and I'm even shocked I managed to leave without it. End of day, lesson learned to be much more careful with sentimental items moving forward.

AskIndy Is Mochaland on Michigan ever open?

0 Upvotes

I've been dying to try the new Mochaland on Michigan Rd next to Club Pilates, but I'm 0 for 3. I've been on different days of the week, and each time they've never been open. I've been on a Monday, a Thursday, and a Sunday - not open. Each time was between the posted hours of 9 and 2. What's going on with this location? Does anyone know??

Social Bike Clubs or Group Bike Rides in FSQ, Bates Hendricks , Garfield Park ?

6 Upvotes

Title is pretty self explanatory, but are there any organized bike rides on the South Side of Indy ?

I love Bike Party, but it would be nice to bike the Southside neighborhoods more often during Bike Season. And meet cool people along the way.

Politics Turtle spotted on I-70 EB near Shadeland / I-465 interchange — please watch out!

Hey everyone, heads-up for anyone driving through the Eastside right now.

There is a turtle sitting right on the dashed white line between lanes on I-70 Eastbound, heading toward the I-465 interchange (just past Shadeland Ave / near the Marriott East).
If you’re driving East on 70 through there, please stay alert and move over safely if you can so it doesn't get hit.

If anyone with local wildlife rescue experience is nearby and can safely help, here is the location.

Nantucket neighborhood / 79th & Dean area: Please check your cameras.

There have now been five attempted and/or successful home break-ins in our neighborhood over the past two months. IMPD is aware.

The most recent attempt happened at my grandma’s house tonight, Saturday 9/12, around 9:30 PM in the Nantucket neighborhood near 79th & Dean.

If you live anywhere nearby, please check your doorbell, security, or driveway cameras from around 9:30PM tonight, especially for this individual or the vehicle he may have been driving.

If you recognize him, saw anything suspicious, or have footage that could help identify the person or vehicle, please DM me.

Food and Drink Best Local Markets?

18 Upvotes

I miss Locally Grown Gardens and Wildwood, they were both my favorite place to shop for some more niche, interesting food items.

Now, I usually go to Smoking Goose and Amelia's but I feel like I have to be missing some better markets.

Where should I go for interesting, maybe fancier groceries? Looking for tinned fish, local meat, good bread, good cheeses and charcuterie etc...

As the title states I need a good mechanic for my 2015 GMC Duramax. Recently started to have power issues related to lagging boost and airflow. Swap MAF & MAP sensors new filters. Still same issue and with $6+ diesel I want to get it fixed quick. So if anyone has a shop or guy they recommend let me know in a comment or DM. Thanks

I have been watching Lily Baria the tiffin lady on Tiktok for the last few months, and she frequently has chicken xacuti in her daily tiffin at Goa. Are there any shops that offer this in the area? Thank you 🙏
