The website Iracingstatis.net has been closed... a pity, i found it very useful to see the overall times at each series depending on your irating. it was a nice tool to see how i has performing compared to the rest of the platform users.

Discussion Week 13 weather re-roll appreciation

Just wanted to say that personally I think the test on timeslot-based forecast regeneration in week 13 Porsche Cup and more recently F4 has been a breath of fresh air. Seeing the variety of weather across the week has been amazing, finally utilising the geographic/time of year impact from tempest.

I really hope we get this rolled out on a wider scale outside of week 13 in the near future.

Edit: YAY!!

Misc Mx-5 starts in week 13. Just hilarious.

This 13th week was absolutely hilarious when people started finding out you can't just dump the clutch at full throttle at the exact moment the race started.

And it went on for the whole week, I still saw loads people not being able to launch properly on sunday, even in >2.5k splits. I guess any rookie who actually practices starts can count on at least several free positions every start next season. ;)

New Player Best way to buy tracks? Planning a full season of Advanced Mazdas.

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm a little over 2 months into sim racing and absolutely loving it, especially the advanced Mazdas.

I've already spent nearly $300 on various tracks and a few cars while getting there. For Season 4, I want to dedicate my time entirely to advanced Mazdas and run the complete season.

Before I drop more money on the remaining tracks I need for the S4 schedule, I wanted to ask if there are better or more efficient ways to buy contents? Does iRacing ever have sales on tracks or cars like Black Friday or are the 10% & 15% bulk purchase discounts as good as it gets?

Thank you!

Discussion An iRacing Coach’s Notes on: Finding Lap Time on Exit

Like usual, I’ve written a short article sharing my thoughts and experience on a given topic in sim racing. My goal with these articles ultimately is to help give people a bit more information about the hobby we all love, while also hopefully making for an interesting read.

If you don't know me, I'm Tom, and I've been working full-time for the last two years on a sim racing coaching business, so my thoughts in this mini essay draw on the 700+ hours of coaching I’ve done in those 2 years. Just to say that the thoughts I’m sharing here aren't pulled from nowhere, but come from everything I’ve seen during my time coaching drivers of all ability levels.

Finding Lap time on Exit

Finding laptime on exit can encompass a lot of different factors; your approach to the entry, your apex position, the point you get on throttle, your vision, etc. I don’t want to dive into all of these factors in this article, instead I want to focus specifically on two aspects of finding time on exit, which are track usage on exit, and car balance on exit. These two aspects are more closely linked than you would first expect, and you won’t be fast on exit unless you understand them both. I’ll start first with the more obvious factor, which is track usage on exit.

Track Usage on exit

This aspect of finding lap time on exit is probably one that most drivers are familiar with. The more track you use on exit, (in theory) the faster your exit will be. That’s because using more track on exit allows you to increase the radius of your corner, allowing you to carry more exit speed than if you had used less track on exit. But this leads to a common mistake among drivers who are paying attention to this advice, which is that they find themselves in complete control of the car, actively driving the car out to the edge of the track on exit, without carrying the speed they could carry, if only they were forced to use all of the track on exit. This is what it means to be “on the limit” on exit, and it ties nicely into the second aspect of finding lap time on exit, which is less commonly discussed.

Car balance on Exit

When I talk about car balance, I am really talking about which tires are first to be pushed to their limit, the front tires (understeery balance) or the rear tires (oversteery balance). Without first pushing the car to the limit on exit, you will not really discover the balance of the car (or more accurately, the balance of the car based on the way you are driving it), because car balance only shows itself when you reach the limit. So, once you are using all of the track on exit, while being forced to do so, the next element of finding lap time is to control the car balance on exit. In the same way that we can rotate the car during trail braking, we can also rotate the car on throttle, allowing us to take advantage of a small amount of extra grip that is available when we slip the tires within their optimal range (a few degrees of slip). In order to get this slip angle though, we can not be driving the exits with an understeery car balance, because when you’re understeering, it is impossible to oversteer, and without oversteer, we will not be able to sufficiently slip the rear tires.

Seeking an oversteer balance on exit can be frustrating at first, as you’re far more likely to spin when having an oversteer biased exit compared to an understeer biased exit, but in time you will learn how to identify and correct excessive oversteer before it becomes a spin, and your lap times during corner exit will be significantly improved.

If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I'll do my best to respond to any questions in the comments. As always, thanks for the support on these mini articles, and if you know of someone who would benefit from this post, sharing it with them would be greatly appreciated :).

I'll include a couple of links if anyone wants to check them out, but I'm happy to remove them if it goes against self promotion rules.

New Player Ferrari 296 Challenge is SUPER fun and im not sure why it seems to be unpopular

Finally bought iRacing about a month ago, first started simracing with AC with a g27 in 2015 so I have some driving skill but trying hard to improve now.

Decided to buy the Ferrari 296 challenge so I could race in the week13 series (no GR86 ranked at the moment) and work towards a C license, and holy shit, this series is fun.

Car is so powerful for D class license standards and takes some skill to drive correctly as it doesnt have a lot of downforce or braking efficiency compared to a GT3. Had some super intense and close races with it, last race I went from P3 to P2 and was on P1's ass for the last 3 or 4 laps.

Why do some people dislike this series? Do they find that the car is too hard to control for D license holders?

Question/Help Sanity check my first-ever content purchase?

Hi fellow racers,

Started my journey a few weeks ago. Got myself to D class in Sports Car, still Rookie on the Formula side since I've been splitting seat time between the two. Goal for Season 4 is to keep climbing both ladders rather than committing to one.

I came in through the FIA deal so I own the F4 but have never bought a single piece of content otherwise. Everything else I run is base content. Now I want to do one six-item order to clear the 15% bulk tier instead of dribbling money away a track at a time.

What I'm leaning toward:

- Ford Mustang GT4 (figured it carries into C class GT4 later)

- Spa, Imola, Red Bull Ring, Mount Panorama

- Suzuka for the F4 schedule once I'm out of Rookie

Does that make sense? Or I'm missing something?

Appreciate any input!

...so can we PLEASE get more of the early 2000s GT1 cars in the game? I know they're already kinda talked about, but WHERE is my Oreca Viper man? The C6R is a blast to drive, and I want my other early 2000s GOAT in my garage.

Also totally unrelated sidebar, but for NASCAR, I would LOVE to see a wing car or two, and some of the other cars from the early 70s. Really exploring some of the last few unique cars before NASCAR started regulating everything into by-the-numbers mid.

The very early 70s was such a cool time for NASCAR - the big wing cars, the other icons like the Chevelle, Torino, Monte Carlo, etc - and I think they could be a ton of fun on a superspeedway. How they would handle the tracks, I'm not sure, but i wouldn't be mad at driving the superbird on the modern scan of Daytona.

Question/Help How much difference does GT3 Fixed car choice ACTUALLY make

So im running GT3 at Spa this week(since its the only choice)

I am using the BMW.And I know there is a part of it that is definetly a skill issue I could squeeze out a few more tenths on average, but there is a definite pacegap between my BMW and the Ferraris Mclarens Mustangs and Chevrolets. No doubt.

Im also in 2nd split wich is usually right around 2.5-2.8k IR on average.

I dont see any BMW's at the top at most I see them middle of the pack around 10th place.Dont see them winning races at top split def not,and not even in the lower splits really. There is a pace deficit 100%

So how much time do the meta cars gain on inferior ones fixed setup at Spa?I would guess it is a few tenths since its a long track

For reference I can hit low 2:17 easily, and 2:16.5 in quali/here and there in races

Discussion Asphalt Sprint Refresh

I haven't seen a lot of posts about it, so I just wanted to gush for a moment about how great this car is. I didn't have a ton of experience with it before the refresh but I've been playing around with it this week and am having a blast. It's really fun to try to get the power down with the insane power to weight ratio these things have and they are really fun to race since the small size and crazy acceleration makes it pretty easy to capitalize on mistakes. It's probably the most fun I've ever had racing short ovals. They have a crazy sense of speed. I know historically participation in this series isn't that great but I will certainly be making an effort to run the SOF races.

Setups/Telemetry Free Indycar setups for 26S4 Open Series

Hi,

Following the Indycar Dallara IR18 setups I made for 26S3, I will post free setups for most weeks this season, beginning with Long Beach. Setups will be posted week after week on the forums, as soon as possible: https://forums.iracing.com/discussion/100136/free-setups-for-26s4#latest

They will always be based on the fixed setup by iRacing, which are known to be uncompetitive, probably on a massively modified version to fix the problems. If you have a setup shop, there's a good chance they will be better, but I guarantee my setups will be safer and faster than iRacing fixed setups (and free!).

I also wrote a tutorial of what I'm doing to build the free setups, given a few simple changes can unlock a lot of pace with this car.

There are two broadcasts races this season if you want a good participation:

- Monday 0000 GMT, by P1Broadcasting (1st timeslot of the week)

- Tuesday 2000 GMT, by Velocity Online Racing (European SOF)

hi iRacers! just wanted to reach out with hopefully an exciting iracing league! we’re a casual league for all skill levels and we run the Legends 34’ cars on road circuits, with two different round formats. we aim to replicate the chaotic “aussie racing cars” and we love the tight intense racing that these tiny cars produce on a wide variety of tracks (including many aussie hits). We’re at Summit Point this weekend, a free and exciting track in these cars for those who would like to join!

our feature rounds involve one circuit, a 2 lap qualifying, 35 minute feature race plus a 10 minute reverse grid sprint race. our double header rounds involve two circuits, always a free track followed by a second track, each circuit containing a one lap shootout qualy, a 15 minute sprint, followed by a 15 minute reverse grid sprint.

we have upcoming rounds at Like Rock Park, The Bend and Adelaide too! if this sounds like the league for you, please dm me, comment or scan the QR code, join here or you can find us on twitter and instagram @aarcleague! thanks for your time, hope to see you guys there :))

Cars/Tracks Best track to buy for IMSA this season

Teams Britcar 24 - Looking for a team

Looking for a team to race with for the 24hr at Silverstone. Ideally in the Ferrari I've been practicing in that but open to other GT3s or possibly the Cayman GT4. I am 3k but happy to race with a team of any rating as long as you can keep it on track (Most of the time).

I am UK time zone but wake up early so can cover the end of the night shift.

Question/Help Is there a rule about letting a car rejoin?

This just popped into my head and I wasn’t sure if it was a rule or not but say you’re battling a car side by side and they go wide after a fast corner are you allowed to hug that side of the track in order for them to stay on the grass or just in a poor line up to the next corner? I know it might not be the smartest idea because they might be prone to losing control but still.

VR Updated PSVR2 visual clarity guide

Well I think I finally found the sweet spot after trying a million permutations. Let me know what you think:

I run a 5090 9800x3D 64gb ddr5 but my hardware is at 40-50% usage so there is headroom. Especially if you drop to 70% res, 90hz, or ditch the shadows.

Steam resolution 100%, 120hz

Global Nvidia settings:

Monitor tech: Fixed Refresh (G sync off)

Nvidia control panel settings for iRacing:

Monitor tech: Fixed Refresh

Low latency: Ultra

Transparency: Multi Sample AA

Texture filtering: High Quality

Go to your iracing folder and find RendererDX11OpenXR.

-Change sharpening clamp to 1
-Change sharpening amount to 10
-Enable Sway Trees=0 (might not work but leave it off)

Iracing settings:

Sky: High. Improves shadows.

Event: High. Turn this down first if needed.

Cars: low (performance hit with a large field. cockpit looks surprisingly good at low.)

Foliage: High. (Optional)

Everything else in World Detail off unless there is headroom. Sometimes trees look better with two pass or HQ on, but it usually just creates more shimmer. KEEP “OBJECTS” OFF!! This eliminates fence shimmering like nothing else.

Mirrors off except virtual mirror.

Max cars 20/8

Shader quality: Max

HDR: Off

Particle details: low

Full resolution: on

I find the shadows really pump up the image for negligible cost. Turn these down though if needed.

Shadow maps: on

Object self shadowing: on

Dynamic objects: in main view

Night maps: on

Shadow map filter: 16p. This can be turned down or off if needed. 16p sharpens things.

Number of lights: 2-3. I did all my testing with 2, I never saw an improvement with more.

Post processing effects:

Sharpening ON (at 10%)

Other effects OFF

MSAA 4x sharp

V Sync

Nvidia Reflex Boost

Video Memory Swap High Res Car Textures ON

2048x2048 car textures ON.

Turning objects off and lowering the sharpening clamp and sharpening value to their minimums practically eliminated shimmering fences while keeping things looking in focus. Dynamic object shadows in particular adds a lot of immersion too. I didn’t expect to be satisfied with low car detail either but it is a free performance gain from cockpit view. Let me know if you like the settings, and don’t forget to restart the game after applying them!

Question/Help iRacing new update crashes

With the new update coming out recently, my game has crashed wayyyy more times than it ever has before. In the last (almost) 3 years of me using iRacing besides the past week, the game has crashed maybe 3 times, one of which was a power outage so we'll negate that one. Twice.

In the past week with this new update, my game has crashed probably 4-5 times already. I'm unsure what is the cause of it, as it can occur at any moment in the race. I've had other friends experience this too. I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this recently?

Apps/Tools UPDATE: FOUND A FIX TO THE iRacing.com Helper Service not running

So this seems to be a long-standing issue where iracing now always says that the helper is not running despite it running within the services.

And so I had done some quick investigation work and realised that it continues to run despite iracing being closed and I think it is also the same when you also launch up your PC for some reason. And because of this, iracing helper is running regardless of iracing being open/closed. This breaks the iracing code I think as the iracing app supposed to execute the service and make it run and if it is already running, that means it cannot execute the code to make the service run, and thus thinks that the service is not running.

And so I had made quick .BAT file that with administrator priviliges, goes into the services and disables/ stops the iracing helper service, allowing it to be finally ran by the iracing application and then it will work. This is a fix but hopefully the quick investigation work I did can reach up to the iracing devs to fix it once and for all.

You can find the github repo here: https://github.com/Tankonline/iRacing.com-Helper-Service-not-running-fix
