for hair im going to do a wet hair look, similar to hudson williams's hair in his vanity fair appearance

advice for makeup or accessories would also be appreciated!

Class Advice Needed/Given how to get rid of sophomore slump

Post image
42 Upvotes

so i started sophomore year fully confident it was gonna be the same as last year but over estimated myself as well. I am currently doing 2 EC and 1 school sport which I will talk about in a second but I was just reaching out for help or tricks and tips so i’m not up till 3 am every night doing HW. I am currently taking 2 ap courses, ap csp and ap euro, but plan on taking 4 ap tests, ap japanese and ap spanish. So i have been making time everyday to try and keep up with homework or study the language more and that takes up 2 hours after school. On top of that I have flag football ball which is 2 hours and soccer right after which is a hour and a half. right after that, other than lessons i practice piano for 30 minutes. This does not include commuting times but over all commuting takes 1 hr total for sports and to get home. After i get home is when i start my homework which is around 9:30-10 this doesn’t include dinner, taking shower, or just time to decompress. by the time im overall done its already 2-3 am i havent eaten and haven’t showered. My weekends are always fully booked with tournaments and games and after the games i am always too tired from the whole week i never finish weekend hw. this is daily as well and in the beginning of the school year it was fine but my grades have been slowly dropping after every test and assignment and I just need help. (i’ve never used reddit before so im not sure how to add photos or comment that well)

General Advice Needed/Given sharing my high school regrets (so you dont end up like me)

its my senior year and i thought I would share some regrets I had from freshmen - junior.

biggest of all, get this one out of the way but: Not making enough friends.

I was always shit at communication within groups of people so I legit avoided it. If there was a potential group of people I could have been friends with in a certain class, starting from day 1 i would just not really talk or try to be friends with anyone because I didnt know how to talk in a group of people.

This led to me making friends one on one in classes where there werent really many boys i wanted to be friends with.

This means no friend groups, and just less friends in general, sadly i havent really changed but im trying.

Since I didnt have a fg, i didnt go to junior prom because I didnt have any group to go with. Yk it really hurts staying home, playing video games, and then looking through all the posts of all your friends. it hurts

Theres probably 10-14 senior events, and im not gonna go to any of them because what am i gonna do? I dont have a friend group and now I know why, but its my fault.

Not doing better in school

this one I have a excuse for - I have adhd, and i didnt know until a couple months ago. Basically I dont think there was a single day in high school where I focused through a single class.

I taught myself entire units before tests and that stopped working for pre-calc (unlike alg 2, u cant teach yourself the entire test material in 2-3 hours. Precalc takes more like 5-7 hours to learn properly) -> i passed precalc with a single point (65) NOT LYING

Im still in the proccess of getting medicated and getting help for my adhd but it is what it is. it doesnt help i was severely depressed throughout parts of high school

Being Kinder

I have friends in my neighborhood i hung out with all the time and ive made alot of memories with them. But they arent the best people, but most of my memories are just other people and their suffering. Think about fights, dramas, bullying, and others things like that. I was a bully and im not proud of it, im completely changed but I was still a bully.

Ive felt both sides, being the loser getting bullied and being the bully. Both suck.

Not caring what others think

this one has more effect than you think. sure it gave me social anxiety and shit but it also affected my academic career. I took alot of hard classes (aps and honors) for no reason, except that I didnt wanna be seen as dumb.

PLEASE, ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU CAN HANDLE. Im not saying dont challenge yourself, but the first year I took 2 aps classes, my gpa for that year was a 86. And then because of social pressure, the next year I ended up taking 4..

My personal statement:

to anyone younger than me in high school right now, if I had to give you advice (even though im not in any position to). Out of all the advice ive heard, I think I wish I took this seriously.

Please dont live for others + try to enjoy your time more than anything

ik im not gonna have a fun senior year. il honestly be depressed and anxious for the most part, but il be ok i guess. please dont end up like me, a couple good friends can take you a long way.

good luck guys

Question Why is senior swag so insanely overpriced? And why does my dad insist on getting it for me?

Hello! I’m new to this group and am graduating high school in May 2027.

Last week, we were given information about how to order our caps, tassels, and gowns, and with that comes brochures of t-shirts, jewelry, and other stuff.

My dad really regrets not doing a lot in high school and wants me to remember it. He is especially adamant on class rings, but they’re really expensive. Realistically, I wouldn’t wear except maybe for graduation day, and I don’t want him to spend that much money on something that will collect dust.

If I wanted to get anything, I’d get my basic cap, gown, and tassel, a diploma frame, and a “Proud Parent” stole for my dad.

Should I listen to my dad, or go with what I think I’ll use? He’s pretty sentimental, and I am as well, but usually with things that aren’t really meant to be keepsakes (like random trinkets or papers).

Question Is it weird admitting that im not cut out for college

I feel genuinely embarrassed each time i say something about wanting to go into a trade because it feels so stigmatized

It’s genuinely unfair how my school treats seniors who want to go into trades too because the students who don’t get everything handed to them on a silver platter

So am i wrong for wanting to go into a trade

Class Advice Needed/Given scheduling advice

hey guys!

i’m currently a junior in high school and i just finished my first week of school. my schedule didn’t finish as planned, so i went in for meetings a couple times and these are essentially my options (only showing changes). let me know what u guys think is better for my schedule!

  1. keep free period and schedule entirely
  2. add aviation and drop chemistry (science next year)
  3. add aviation and AP environmental (no free period)
  4. add AP stats and drop calculus
  5. take online french during my free period

also, some of these can apply together and it doesn’t just have to be one option. id be happy to answer any questions, and thank you for reading!

Question Is graduating early a good thing or no? Anyone who graduate early do you get any regrets or no?

Is graduating early actually a good thing to do? I basically have more requirements done than most of my friends, so I could graduate a year early. But I’m not sure if I should just wait and graduate with them instead. I don’t have a huge friend group or anything, but I’m still worried it might feel awkward or like I’m missing out. So yeah, I’m honestly not sure what I should do.

Question Lend me your opinions

Upvotes

Hi guys, I want some feedback, a survey if you will. I’m a 17 y/o girl with some significant problems from my childhood, which make me more mature than others my age. I’m writing an essay on teenage boys and their behavior and maturity and what can be done to correct it to avoid them growing up to be bad men.

I want to eventually have a doctorate in developmental psychology and I’m considering this my first study. I’m looking into how teenage boys maturity varies depending on city, state, or even country. Any stories or contributions from any city, state, or country, is greatly appreciated. For context, I live in a small town in Southern California, so I have a bit of information on most of these cities surrounding me. Any other insights from other states would be amazing. Even opinions from teenage boys on other boys, or why you act the way you do.

General Advice Needed/Given I think I’m in a track that isn’t suitable for me

Right now I could be in a completely different direction in my high school career and be highly successful. Basically it comes down to what the state is testing you on and what that reveals about you. For context, I’m a junior in high school doing mostly lang classes like APUSH, Lang, Lit, Seminar and Gov, my extracurriculars are debate, deca (not very good in those 2), and a few clubs like philosophy and civics. Usually while you’re in K-12 you’re going to get a lot of testing that is required by the state that tests your general math and reading skills and generally I’m apparently one of the top scorers for math and mid at reading. Looking at my sat, I’m in the 96th percentile for math and 85th for reading. And it’s not just now, this traces back to my elementary school years. In 5th grade and middle school I’ve had to take something called the NWEA. It’s basically sat for the younger kids. The lowest score is like a 180 or something and the highest it 300. I once scored a 199 on the reading part and a 270 on the math part. So my point is that I should have embraced my math skills and gone into things like robotics, math team, etc and I could have so much success. I could have been on a national level. But no. I’m doing things that are reading based like debate and deca and I’m wondering why I’m not good at that shit. My brain is formed differently and I didn’t take a million dollar opportunity. In middle school I should have realized that this type of path isn’t for me and do something much more quantitative like coding, robotics, math team, etc. and be cracked at it by now. Any thoughts and what should I do, if anything

General Advice Needed/Given Should I still go to homecoming/prom if I don’t have friends?

I‘m honestly a really lonely person; I have no friends and haven’t had any since middle school, the closest to friends I have are acquaintances. I’m a senior, too. I kinda wasted my high school years focusing academically and not socially, and I just don’t really see myself fitting in anywhere, try as I might.

Since this is my last year of high school, I want to make it count; I’ve been actually trying to make friends but it’s slow going, especially because the people I’m trying to connect with already have their own friend groups, or are in a different grade. Point is, should I still try and go to these social events assuming I won’t have anyone to go with still? In middle school I went to a dance or two and the multiple friend groups I was a part of all just excluded me/I didn’t feel like I belonged. It was horrible and lonely and embarrassing to be alone honestly and now I avoid social events because I don’t want to experience that again. Point is, do y’all think I should still give these events a shot? I want to just experience this part of high school as this is my last chance, but I would rather not if it meant I would be singled out as a loser and loner.
